Just add defensive system: If you fail you get shooted by a defense system (?) XD
This is actually a good idea. There would be some kind of arrow coming through the door or something
I prefer / share (name). Very simple and easy ... combo lock would bother a house with many doors ...
I would pretty much like a shared door more than a password door... besides, the way hackers are, they are probably going to find a wait to use the password system to enter your base more easily. Now, if the password door is an all diferent door (at the expense of being more expensive to craft) and stronger than the metal door..............

Its just for the people they share it with, and i think once they have entered it they dont have to keep doing it.

I placed all of the doors in my house and i was looking forward to being able to let my friends enter/live in the house without the door share mod. Now it looks like i'll still need it because im not going to force my friends to type in a code for the 45+ doors throughout our house. How ever with the door share mod and combo lock maybe people can have their own private rooms then that only they can enter. I'm still surprised they didn't go furthur in depth with this feature, if my friends have to type in a code every time then it is not worth it at all.
Combo locks are a terrible idea for a big base with multiple doors!
Don't set a lock on every door. Problem solved. I was hoping to see a free-cam or observe mode in this patch, so we'd have another weapon against cheaters.
Seems like now there's going to be foundations everywhere from where raiders needed a respawn point
raiders...or BURGLARS?!?!?
Does anyone know if this update will require a server wipe?
At this point it looks like combo locks are really just giving raiders another possible option of getting into your house. I understand that unless you're and idiot or an easy program gets made to guess the lock combos people won't typically get in that way but it is just another way. I'm sure some idiots out there will use 1111 or something similar for a combo. But at this point i don't see a point in using them if my friend has to type the combo in every time. I guess door share mod will still be a must.
This update, fucked my server list, now when I open the game no servers popped up. Never happened to me before and i uninstalled 3 times already. GG alpha too op
Door combination is nice for people on pure servers. Personally, I like Rust++ /share feature better. Also, I believe in update 1.5 it will have individual door sharing as well. People wont have to stand around to enter combinations and such.
Is this update live? Should we backup our data? Do I need do a steam update to my server? Thanks
More doors, more combinations, more secure... so keep a pen and paper handy while playing... and don't lose that paper, or you'll be locked out of half your base... hrm.
the owner of the door dont ahve to put the combination every time he open the door. Is for other person who you want to share the door with.

This mechanic is in place because it allows the possibility of people holding you up for your code or your ability to change it at whim. It's to promote more varied and creative gameplay, not to give you everything you want.
The goal is a reality survival simulator. A code is less dangerous than a key, so I accept this change.
Any idea on when this goes live? And I assume the servers that implement the update will have to be wiped?
Any idea on when this goes live? And I assume the servers that implement the update will have to be wiped?
Last night they said it will go live today, 1/24, unless they run into bugs fixing Rad Town doors (currently anyone could set a pin and take ownership of all the doors).
I didnt understand the difference between a bed and a sleeping bag except beds must be spawned on a foundation... what else?
Does anyone knows when this patch will be out???
I didnt understand the difference between a bed and a sleeping bag except beds must be spawned on a foundation... what else?
I took the difference to be that a bed on a foundation has no cool-down time on respawn. Whereas the new dynamic for the Sleeping Bag is a proximity cool-down. IE: If you have 4 sleeping bags in this predetermined area then all of them are on the same cool-down.
Garry has said in an interview that he wants there to be a vulnerability to the unlocking system. This creates more realism. In real life, someone can steal your keys. They don't want to add a system where you magically gain access to a door via some menu. I just wish the lock was 5-8 long instead of 4 - making it harder to brute force. Perhaps add a lockout system after so many failed attempts you can't try again for X duration.
this is stupid. they should have just made a vault door that was much harder to craft that had the combo lock.....so you could have 1 inside your base as a vault
I prefer a lot Door Sharing. We should be able to make a door and enter some properties for it and share each door with the friends we want. And off course there must be also a option to share all doors at same time with any friend. Keep Cool
no ETA on patch release yet?
Doors don't magically open just for your friends in real life. [editline]24th January 2014[/editline] You can now set a passcode on a door and share it with other people. Once they’ve entered the passcode they can open and close the door until you change it. This also works on gates. In addition, you can set a door to be unlocked so anyone can use it without a passcode. From the rust homepage, good they thought ahead.!
You know if the combolock password can be removed? I feel that a 4 digit password is someting not really safe as I can see a lot of people using bruteforce programs to open them.
Garry said they have brute force protection. Confirmed here: https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/426423771143364608
Any idea when this is going live?
