No I hate Call of duty
Then battlefield 4. It's a survival game, not a game where you run around with silenced m4's and slaughter everybody you see. Then again, sometimes force has to be applied in order to survive, but that doesn't mean you NEED military weaponry. Go craft some flintlocks and enjoy 20 minutes of battle against one guy! xD
It would become another minecraft then!
It would become another minecraft then!
WTH does anything said here have to do with Minecraft?
It would become another minecraft then!
Rather that than another Call of Duty. Just sayin'.
This is a modern survival game. Remember that. [editline]5th November 2013[/editline]
Then battlefield 4. In most games, you are in a modern world, in huge cities, with vehicles and whatnot. I can't see why there wouldn't be weaponry in those environments. Thing is, in Rust we're stranded on a small island with about 12 buildings in total. This isn't DayZ. It's RUUUUUST.

If you wanna play a cavemen type of survival game, go play something else.
Yeah cause building a high grade weapon with some pieces of rusty metal and a stone is how all companies create their weapons. If you wanna play call of duty, go play call of duty.
As I said stop bringing call of duty into this you cod fanboy.
Military grade items is what keeps the game going.
What will keep the game going at least for me...is the struggle to survive, building more secure structures and considering any technological find no matter how small a triumph in its own right! Right now things are way too easy, there is no real threat other then people.. even animals and zombies pose no real threat. If we worried more about just making it through another day, and less about who we want to kill or who's house do we want to raid game would be (imho) much more fun and exciting!
And this is just a game, its not meant to be realistic anyways. I am gonna stop here.
The game is meant to have some form of realism, but it is also a game. You can't make any game ultra realistic, it is boring. If you made a military game realisitic, it would be worthless and boring 100% of the time ask any soldier. Being a soldier isn't everything it is cracked up to be, so in terms of realism being portrayed into a game you have to break the mold at some point and allow a little fantasy to unravel for entertainment, but based on the premise of this game so far it is in a modern era so having weapon isnt a hard concept. If you have military sites you could have an armory that could contain thousands or hundreds of weapons and when the apocalypse happens those weapons get spread out. One of the things military personell do when they find enemy weapons is they take them apart and throw the pieces every were so they can never be used. So to find parts scattered as such isnt all that unrealistic.
Lol I bet the players that are mad about removal of mil grade weapons are the KOS noobs.
Lol I bet the players that are mad about removal of mil grade weapons are the KOS noobs.
Not necessarily. I just today managed to find an M4 in a radzone (which I promptly researched). I'm just barely surviving in what barely qualifies as a house, and I'm not the sort of person who raids - but I would seriously hate to see my shiny new M4 go.
I've just joined up, but I'd like to throw my 2 cents in here and say that I think that military grade weapons = *yawn*. I definitely prefer a more low tech approach. Ideally nothing more powerful than a hunting rifle, and those should be incredibly rare.
I would have only handmade weapons like the pipe shotgun. I would allow the current military ones but only from spawns and not craftable.
I really like this idea. Think the current military grade weapons should only be really rare spawns and be unrelieble (but could add a skill to repair them). What they should add instead should be weapons with a handmade fell. Wouldnt care if these are just a bit more unprecise M4s with different skins. But they need to look like sh*t thrown together. But they need to add these new weapons first. Because if they remove military weapons without adding new there will be to few total weapons.
And this is just a game, its not meant to be realistic anyways. I am gonna stop here.
Not meant to be realistic? False... They are trying to make the game as realistic as possible. Look at the sleepers system. Don't be all like "I'm gonna stop" when you start loosing an argument. Find weapons and learn how to craft them? Okai, so I will give you a m4 and 500 metal fragments, will you be able to make a m4? Stop trying to make this a MMO FPS game. It is a survival game. It would still be rust, even without the weapons, and I would still play it if there would be no weapons.
i don't believe the military stuff should be removed. it should just not be able to be crafted. i can understand that stuff dropping from the planes, but what random joe can throw together an M4 after smacking a few rocks? the bow and shotguns are more understandable as craftable weapons.
Go watch the walking dead. Do you see all the people there walking around with AR's? No, they have pistols, knives, and in Darrel's case, a crossbow. In that show I've seen ONE M4 in that group and it was because they got it when they were at the CDC (which would have a military grade armory). Full auto AR's are illegal for civillians in most parts of the world. So in a situation like Rust, the best you could hope to find would be a semi-auto AR like an AR15 because even the military security which guard power plants only have rifles that do semi-auto and burst, they don't get full auto AR's. The point is, in reality, a full auto weapon is not something you will find outside of S.W.A.T., military base, or federal law enforcement/intelligence agency armories (yes they are on the streets from gun running but that doesn't count unless you're in Compton which Rust isn't to be staged). Even then, these kinds of weapons take a lot of work to maintain.
KiltJoy Mind writting an argument why you disagree with me? :)

Many people die from just ONE 9mm bullet, two 5.56mm slugs could rip you apart. Houses do decay, just not on the scale in this game. Hatchets COULD take down a wooden wall or door of a house, haven't you EVER seen a horror movie where they use an axe to take out a door? It's why firefighters have axe's. They sure aren't there for the firefighter to chop firewood. Fall damage IS realistic at the heights it's occurring from. 5m is 16 feet. When I drop 15ft off my off, my feet hurt even with squishy shoes on. People can break their legs dropping 20ft (6m) to the ground. It's why when you jump, you are suppose to hit the ground and roll through (watch a parkour video to see how they jump). This game doesn't have "C4" everyone just calls it that for short. This game actually has "explosive charges". You can make an explosive charge from house hold chemicals. What do you think a pipe bomb is made from? Semtex? So most of this game IS actually realistic. You are just a little kid and have no sense of reality or attention to detail, one of the two. I realize you probably have only gotten your experience of shooters and "realistic physics" from Call of Duty or Battlefield but I'm going to blow your mind with: Call of Duty and Battlefield are arcade shooters and not at all tactical or realistic (even if they have some realistic physics aspects like bullet drop). If you wanna find out what "realistic shooters" are like, go play one of Rainbow Six games before Rainbow Six 3. You could die to a well placed 9mm round and live from several badly placed 5.56 rounds.

Please post your youtube video of making 'explosive charges' from animal fat, cloth, & ash. We usually needed manufactured chemicals & refined fuels for weak pipe-bombs. In professional stunts, above 25 feet is a 'high fall' requiring airbags. Never played CoD or Battlefield, mind not blown. My sense of reality is just fine.

I think military grade weapons should just be extremely hard to come across as well as un-craftable. But still remain in the game.
Trees only giving 1 wood at a time= Keep in mind it is a alpha and things will change=Not realistic
I prefer to think of this one as a gamey representation of the idea that it's significantly easier to gather already chopped wood from a pile than it is to chop down a tree. As such, it has realistic elements to it.
It is a survival game= DO you know the difference between FPS and Survival?
In this case, there actually isn't really a difference. It's both a survival game AND a FPS since you'll be spending the entire game in the first person perspective (unless you use a console command to change it) and you'll be in possession of some form of projectile weapon for much of that time. It's a FPS in the same sense that Fallout 3 was (even though i'd have generally described it as an RPG) for whatever that's worth. KiltJoy just seems a bit nuts on this though as he just slapped = not realistic to everything as if that instantly meant it wasn't realistic...
This is an FPS game but the "FPS" stands for "First Person Survival" not "First Person Shooter". You can make a black powder pipe bomb (look up explosive cannon shell or "carcasses" for the idea). I'm not saying testifying to how much power it'll make but it's still powerful and can be made without a significant amount of machinery as the design is several hundred years old.
Why would we lower the endgame values of the game? I don't want to spend shit load of time just to get four crates filled with hunting bows and call that my endgame.
