• How software development actually works (and how Facepunch is Failing)
Prescription can you tell me how this isn't refining what they currently have in place? So far everything you've said they should be doing it looks like they are doing.
Networking Tweaks - There is supposedly a bug in Unity that is causing DDOS Attacks to bring down a server every 10 minutes. This is a persistent issue. Audio Fixes - ok? great... I agree that this needs to be hashed out. UI Updates - Long way to go, but great! Wall Glitching - worse issue now than prior to fix. Performance - Seemed to improve a bit from last week... But what did they have to disable to make the improvements? Here is the basics in my humble opinion that need to be solid to get to "baseline": 1. Players can starve, freeze, drown, get killed by people, get killed by animals. This is mostly in place. Some focus on refinement would bring this over the finish line. 2. Players can build defensible houses. Again, close, but there are apparent issues with glitches, building to the sky, key system, etc... Some focus on refinement would bring this over the finish line. 3. Players can kill other people with weapons. Lots of weapons in place. Aiming needs work, 1 shot/hit kills a problem, again close. etc... All of these things are "close", but not there yet. If they would address a handful of very specific issues over the next couple weeks (while their artist keep drawing, loding, etc...) than they would be in lots better shape.
Tell me, how are the Rust developers going to fix a bug in Unity? Admit you're impatient and move on.
And if their process slightly differs from yours does that really make it "failing" or wrong?
The amount of negativity that people post on the forums here out ways the good... That's a fact. It is unfortunate, because the devs are trying extremely hard, and have made a lot of progress. My OP was an opinion, on how to rein things in a bit... Is my opinion right or wrong? Is the dev's current process right or wrong? This is all to stir conversation. The people who read this get very invested and emotional about opinions... thats good... but people also get personal on here, which is unfortunate. I don't value anything you contribute to anyone else's posts.

Last month i had to play this game at minimum graphics with all settings turned down. This week i can play with everything maxed. I'd say some major leaps and bounds for performance have been made over the last few weeks. They fixed the new wall glitching within 24 hours of introducing it friday. You seem to have lost track of what your original statement was. It was that they aren't working on whats important for a baseline game. But based on their ACTUAL updates and devblogs that's exactly what they're doing.

Is telling someone to stop posting intended to stir conversation? P.S.
Ooooooops, who's getting personal now? Is telling someone to stop posting intended to stir conversation?
paste in what he wrote to, and ask me how it contributed to anything, just like this post you are making now.
I love all this debating!
Im not sure what you are rambling about, but its not coherent or relevant to anything. Take a gander at the post saying "Stuck in my house", "People glitching through walls", "why i'm quitting rust", "I keep getting DC from Servers", "problems with very large buildings and stairways to heaven" etc... and realize that there are major issues with the current code that are making game play intolerable, or impossible... Now please stop posting Bullshit in this thread and leave room for intelligent conversation, which you are not a part of.
You do realise that glitching through walls only came about a week ago, right? lock bug happened on Saturday with the implementation OF A NEW FEATURE (coded locks). As for bucket helmets and frog boots, the art department usually have much more time on their hands in creating games hence why they have the time to implement stuff like this. People specialize in different tasks. It isn't a free for all coding gang bang.

Negative feedback on the internet is highly subjective. Most companies, along with t he one you work at I presume, deal with negative feed back as a chance to better the software. This is not the case in the social media realm. This has been especially hard for online games over the past 15 years. You absolutely cannot gauge feedback from any of these posts and especially not "why i'm quitting rust". Happy players don't usually take to the forums to compliment. You see these posts as warning bells ringing and red flags, because that is how you have to treat customer feedback in your current position. This has lead you to the belief that "there are major issues with the current code". But that doesn't translate to this type of development. Are their bugs? Yes. Are they being addressed? Yes.
this is like a really wordy version of those guys you see replying to PR statuses on a big game's facebook page to "stop checking facebook and fix u're game!" [editline]e[/editline]

I never claimed to be a software developer, and you hit my point perfectly "you should understand the need to refine what is there before adding aesthetics more than anyone."

Let me preface with a couple things... 1. I work for a software company, and have performed in several roles....
You left that first point ambiguous for a reason, didn't you?

yeah except that's not what we are talking about troll... we are talking about the FIRST POINT: 1. I work for a software company, and have performed in several roles.... Anyway, how are the Rust developers going to figure out how to prevent their servers from being brought down every 10 minutes? You might want to ask them that...
Don't resort to namecalling. Remember what you said earlier.
you are right... this guy is just super rude... but you are right... I'm still waiting for Prescription to answer my question. Ignored twice now in favour of calling me a troll and calling my character into question.
you are right... this guy is just super rude... but you are right... except i'm not going to let someone talk shit and not get it back. [editline]3rd November 2014[/editline] lol fanboy?
I don't need your biography anyway, because what you do in real life is wholly irrelevant to the validity of your assertions -- which are dumb. EDIT -- I'd also like to hear you directly answer Elix's question.
I'm still waiting for Prescription to answer my question. You can't figure out that Unity and the Rust Dev's are going to need to work together to get it resolved?!
Just fyi, that's namecalling as well.
really? Do I answer to you now? Are you the polite police?

It's a problem on their end, and he's doing what he can to solve it. 2. Again, nice dodge. I didn't call your opinions bad (though I've called them a number of other colorful names), but I did explain in depth in several places in this thread way they're wrong. You decided to ignore those posts and pretend that you didn't see them.
Just fyi, that's namecalling as well.
I don't think prescription listens to the words coming out of his head.
really? Do I answer to you now? Are you the polite police?
No, I'm giving you debating tips. How did you go from "you are right" to immediately calling someone else a fanboy and calling me the "polite police"?
I take everything I said about Prov3rbial back prescription is very bad at listening I wonder how well he listens to his team.
Yep, lay on the hate, this thread is pretty well dead now anyway...
lol, not a fanboy, just someone that has realistic expectations...you are quite arrogant and you come across as a know it all in the world of software development. You have accomplished nothing by your OP except sounding like a twelvie And also you didn't answer my question - is your perspective that of a player or an admin?
Captain Jean-luc Picard didn't get where he is by being a great leader. He got where he is today because he listens to people and has a great team, and knows it. Garry is a lot like that. He knows what his team can do and works with those limits. Sadly there are a huge number of issues that they have to work on as well as create the game and this can slow everything down. The art team is working completely secondary to the programming team, and that's how the system works. They're two entities. Software doesn't have an art team, because it's software, not a video game. You complained about art assets in the OP but that's because you're looking at it from a different point of view.
