Well that's for the alpha setting that we're currently in right now. If this trap does get its way to the real game, you could probably find the components from other places or substitute them with shrapnel if you don't have enough to make a frag. Also, I presume they're going to make it harder to get explosive equipment. (My insight is totally off, since I haven't played the game to experience how hard/easy it is to get the gunpowder and cloth)
It's relatively easy to get gunpowder, once you have it researched it takes 4 seconds (I think) to craft, and it is cheap.
Why would you do them 1500 at a time...?
lol i dunno. Point is they are time consuming to create.
Well the whole point of having better traps or gear is that you're willing to sacrifice the materials and time to have those perks :). Good balance. You reap what you sow.
I'd love to see a trap crafting tree in this game. Since you're able to create settlements, you should also be able to establish a home defense system to protect / fend-off bandits from your camp. This would give players that don't have their friends on or are playing alone have a surviving edge towards a group of zombies / players. These are merely my ideas and opinions that would make this game click for me
Lethal or non lethal traps?
Lethal or non lethal traps?
I'd say both, depending on how far down the crafting tree you go. I guess it becomes more and more powerful / useful depending on your materials. The whole point is for it to be a defense mechanism or a way to add a lot more versatility with the items you have. (i.e. if you have gunpowder, nails, glass or whatever the game has to offer, then you'd be able to craft a lethal / crippling trap)
how bout some sort of home made improvised land/trip mine like gun powder with a string attached to it tied to a stick and if a player walks it ignites and boom lootz for you!
i love the Fallout trapps, bear trapps, rigged shootgun, grenade bouqet etc other way to defend to etc improved barricade - stronger or maby add sharpned poles to it so you get damage when running in to it or trying to climb/jump over it. landmines, alarm system (noise and light) maby option to get guard dog or something thats in a hidden cage that be relesed when coming to close or stepping on tripp wire.

If metal barricades would be possible, I think they would have different names
It would suck if someone placed their traps around your house to trap you.
It would suck if someone placed their traps around your house to trap you.
now thatd be funny!
Well this is another possibility, since player generated bases are the basis of this game as well. You could build a maze or bait people into your death hole, then loot up the prize later :) Quite devious, but smart!
...that is what I'd LIKE to do, but as it stands, the amount of wood you find doesn't even compare to how much wood you need to build anything remotely large. If you manage to find multiple wood piles then you're set, but the odds of that are extremely low and you can always die. I'd love to build large mazes and death pits but Wood is earned far too slowly when you're just wacking at trees. Spikes would be a cool addition to add for some time in the future when wood is less scarce.
Wouldn't that be Indiana Jones: Rust XD I don't think we need some Mayan feeling or some shit
If I was trying to survive in a forest filled with people out to kill me, I would grind away at some wood until it could possibly impale an intruder. After all, everyone else has guns. We need more methods to best enemies with superior weaponry with cunning and wit, and traps would fit that purpose.
I like the grenade idea. As of now grenades are pretty useless, but strung all together with a few of them...ouch
How about Zombie traps. A trip wire or door hides a room full of collected zombies. It'd be great if we could lure zombies with a blood pack or something. Pull zombies in to a room and have it either openable or trip wired to open and release the zombies on the intruders.

Although sharpened poles would be a good defense against enemy AI, it probably would be too obvious for people to run into. You could make a way to make a maze with it and lead people / monsters to a place you can easily kill them and safely loot their body at. landmines, alarm system (noise and light) [editline]27th June 2013[/editline]
...that is what I'd LIKE to do, but as it stands, the amount of wood you find doesn't even compare to how much wood you need to build anything remotely large. Definitely a great starting point to increasing your chance of survival against mobs and players alike :v:
It's currently in closed alpha testing which you can't get into without a key, currently keys aren't being handed out as far as i'm aware.
Yeah, you're right. I asked Garry for a key and he gave me 6. I happened to lose 1, though.
Yeah, you're right. I asked Garry for a key and he gave me 6. I happened to lose 1, though.
Garry seems pretty generous with those keys at least:). Can't you still buy the gold pack thing to get access to it?
home made ieds? or maybe a trip wire mine? even a pressure plated mine?
to be able to dig would be cool. you dig a hole then put a fake covering over it and someone falls in ladders seem to be necessary part of the game too, would make fort warfare more interesting
