As of the latest update the server will no longer load for me. When I try and load RustDedicated.exe it outputs nothing and loads the client instead of the server. I have deleted everything and started over and it's still happening. I've been running a server for a while and updating weekly without problems until now. I have no clue where to go from here :( Update: I have copied the folder to my laptop and without making any changes I was able to run the same .bat file to load the server and it worked perfectly. Something on my computer is causing this my I can't think of anything that would do this... Only change I've made recently would be installing Unity 5 but surely that wouldn't cause this? Update 2: Resolved. Check http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1454487&p=47282866#post47282866

oh my, this error back again!
[1/26/2015 4:01:46 AM] Stability Warmup [1/26/2015 4:01:46 AM] 65682 blocks found [1/26/2015 4:01:46 AM] Updating Supports Pass 1 of 8 [1/26/2015 4:01:46 AM] StackOverflowException: The requested operation caused a stack overflow.

oh my, this error back again!
We had that and had to wipe, only way to get the save back on was to disable stability in the startup parameters. [editline]8th March 2015[/editline] Okay desperate for help now. We get to 81140 building blocks then no one can build with parts insta destroying and everyone starts spawning under the map. C4 stops doing damage too. I downloaded my save file and ran it on my local machine and get exactly the same, so I know it's not the server itself. I've run it vanilla and I've run it with oxide, and again we get the same. We seem to get this a lot, last week we were hitting 132,000 building blocks before we got the issue. We are a very very busy server but not for long at this rate... Any suggestions please? I'm at my wits end, I've tried everything I can think of.
Getting the same thing. First day of the update, my modded server was running perfectly fine for about 8hrs when it randomly started. I restarted multiple times (10-15minute restarts with a 6000 mapsize), but it didn't fix it. I ended up wiping and reducing the map size to 5500. Today (2days of it being perfectly fine) it happened again, a restart fixed it, but within an hour the same thing...restart didn't help. (roughly 55,000 blocks atm) Can't place any deployables: The highlight of them is there, it turns white, you click to place and it just deselects it (doesn't consume it). Unable to build: Everything just crumbles as soon as you place it. Turning off stability fixes it, but deployables still don't work.

Back again, new problem that started yesterday. Most of my users are spawning under the map? Some in the water and some under the map. The memory is still through the roof and the server takes about 9 minutes to start. Anyone else having any of these issues?
Servers have gone back to using assloads of memory again? 2 servers with 4k maps use 2.5gb mem.
how fix the spawn/construct bug?: Demolish the trash objects in the map. I have this problem with size 5000/4700/4500 (also I think what when I upload the spawn.min_density and max density the problem start (maybe it is a coincidence)). for now I'm not using this command or other of give materials on my server. The problem is when the server have much constructed objects or maybe when using the density command. (I hope that with this they can attempt to solve the problem soon)
Join the club The memory goes up by the day and I'm now getting "Reporting Performance Data system/server" Installed a default server tonight and its running 15% new install. Wiped the server again yesterday as people started spawning under the map and drowning. Takes 9 minutes to start my server because the server won't start until its swallowed all the ram it wants lol. Then the end game the server does not start and the memory crashes on 1% Its a ticking time bomb as people play on the server. Not long now till I don't have anyone playing on the servers..
I wiped my map for the third time, angry community for an hour, after all my issues posted above. In the end I took a look at Rustafied's map. They are busy and haven't wiped since the last forced update. I noticed that they were running a worldsize of 4000. So I did the same and all issues are gone so far. I also spoke to Bugs, owner of Rustafied and he said that larger maps are not supported as of the procgen6 stuff coming in last week. This is something I didn't know and may of missed in the notes. Anyway, that's it. It's not an ideal solution having 150 people on a map of only 4000 but it works and it's playable. That's all I care about right now.
It seems like an entity issue and the smaller map means fewer to start, so it takes longer to get to the straw that breaks the camels back. My guess is that if sessions between wipes were longer, like two weeks, we'd see even the smaller maps reaching the same point. Ironically, I wonder if removing demolish didn't play into this by removing a tool that resulted in structures being destroyed periodically.
Hey Guys, i have a server and while i am playing on it, and buying an entity (on gmod) the dedicated server stops working and it shows this Error ..\tier1\fileio.cpp (4002) : Assertion Failed: m_nNumRegisteredWriters == 0 Assert( Assertion Failed: m_nNumRegisteredWriters == 0 ):..\tier1\fileio.cpp:400 2 threadtools.cpp (3633) : Assertion Failed: Illegal termination of worker thread 'CFileWriterThread' The thing is, that it doesn´t happen everytime, but very often :/ What does that mean, im not so into coding... :D It would be nice if you know how to fix this or anything that helps ^^

Maybe this can help with your error, (find on google convert .bat to .exe). I use this for a autoupdate on my server (all in one) and work fine but if I use cmd for more server start the problems, with .exe i prevent this, regards.
Garry please read: Potential Fix! Someone on the Oxide forums posted a fix that actually works, which involves patching the rustdedicated.exe with visual studio to increase the stack size. It's done in a visual studio command prompt... editbin.exe /stack:8388608 RustDedicated.exe We did that and it works fine, I've lost count of the times we've wiped to get our server back. Can this not be sorted so we don't have to keep patching the exe ourselves?

I'm not great with this stuff but from what I can tell it does now seem the RustDedicated file's stacksize is now increased to 8mb rather than 1mb... On a backup of my modded server, run locally, I managed to copy and paste a huge base around the map several times, increasing the build count to over 222K of blocks. The server still restarted and performed normally. Previously we are getting stack overflow errors at between 82k and 142k. Maybe they did fix it? Could someone in the know confirm?

I've got a bit of a weird bug atm, ingame it says there is 65 players, in the server list it says there is 65 player but on game tracker it says 20 lol, in my cpanel it says 20.. its freaking me out.
Don't know why I bother posting on here lol.. Don't think anyone has answered me yet...
It is a plugin causing it, either Ping or Playerlist. If you have either, remove them, then see if that fixes it. Btw you need to kick those -1 pings for them to actually be able to rejoin your server.
Guys when i open my server and the rust_server.exe cmd lock and does not charge help me.
Is there anyone that can help me with the command line setup for windows? This is my third time trying to run a small dedicated rust server on my machine and I just cant get the commands in the batch file right. Would anyone mind copying me theirs? It seems like mine is working but It is always default name and player size (500). None of the guides seem to be updated for current commands, also there is old stuff from legacy that is different, it all makes it fairly difficult. I just want to run a 3000 size map, 50 max players, no password. TIA.
This is happening now since last patch =(
Sorry if this is the wrong place - I can't find a "New Rust Exp. Server owner guide or forum" I have a new Rust Exp. Server hosted and it seems RCON is broken and Rusty is not working. how can I access server/admin commands for things like airdrops, max players, etc. is there a list of server commands and a guide anywhere? Thank you! @Lonestarcanuck
