whilst what everyone is saying about "play more and you'll learn the map" is true.. for new players who want to group up this is not the case. which is why you need a compass/map or ability to die and spawn on a friend.
Or you use very basic cartography skills and use the wiki map, find a landmark and go on from there. It's not very hard.
you don't need to be a boy scout to tell east/west from the sun, and you can find north/south from shadows. landmarks are easy to notice, especially the mountains/hills in the background and concrete structures. being able to craft a map sounds nice but i think that would only work if you had to create it by exploring and drawing it yourself which, would be impractical. maybe the best kind of map for this game would be a simple piece of paper tracing your location without much detail, something very rudimentary... but i find mental maps to be the best for something like this personally.

This map is fine for newbies and vets...but like others have said you must learn the terrain.
heres the link to the wiki so that you dont have such a small map: http://playrustwiki.com/images/6/69/NewMap.jpeg

Most people don't have a mental map and get lost finding their car in the parking lot.

I always used this map. Do you know a better one? Can you give me a link please?
at the very least, there should be a /location command that shows your coordinates like in EQ1
There already is. /coord
