The Hills have Eyes, anyone? Fallout 3 Point Lookout swamp people? Fuck, Sloth from the Goonies would fit in. Small log cabins that work like dungeons or something could house the creeps.
Dinosaurs would be pretty awesome :)
Termites which eat thus damn walls
Poisonous tentacles that throw tetanus filled beartraps.
Poisonous tentacles that throw tetanus filled beartraps.
I think I read that hentai
How about not replacing zombies, but adding dinosaurs? It would be awesome seeing a huge dinosaur charge at a group of zombies.

Rust is an amazing looking game that brings together concepts and styles from both Minecraft and Dayz. In its core its survival based and the zombies in this game bring a feeling that they are the definite enemy and other players are either allies or also enemies. They can work together to fight zombies or fight each other and the zombies which also cause a threat to them. So what im trying to say is if you are to replace the zombies to be more creative make sure that it has that survival feeling to it. Thats just my opinion. Some ideas could be something linked to the radiation. Some sort of beast or even aliens. Spirits of the dead that died from the radiation. Different types of mutated beings that all have different attributes. Some may include extreme speed, super strength etc. Maybe when you kill these things they can give you buffs for a period of time. Speed, Strength, Night Vision, Immunity to radiation, Hunter Skill. Maybe make very isolated cities which you can join one and you fight the other cities(but thats a way different way to go with the game) or you can make these small isolated cities NPC cities and you are the survivor that escaped from that place. This can add some story to the game. I still like the spirits with radiation idea though. Anyway those are my thoughts and opinions on what should happen if the zombies in rust were replaced by something else.
Theres actually some really good ideas in here, adding some crazy creatures would make the game more unique and more challenging keeping players more inclined to Pve.
Theres actually some really good ideas in here, adding some crazy creatures would make the game more unique and more challenging keeping players more inclined to Pve.
I will say some that some sort of 'event' that happens occasionally, that would bind the players together would be pretty sweet. For example, if the creatures were Dinosaurs, a T-Rex that would roam through the world, destroying people's creations and homes and it has to be repelled or killed before it destroys everything would be pretty neat. If enough people were there and it was killed, then you'd have another war for people trying to get the loot/supplies it drops. And since it's a T-rex, it would have eaten many things so there could be just about anything in that stomach of his(or hers =P).
Remove zombies, replace with people begging for Rust keys.
a blood sucker like this would scare the crap out of anyone!
replace the zombies with people chasing you begging for a rust key
i'd like to see Slendermen walking around everywhere
Zombies fit in perfectly, they are quite strong now but that's a good thing. Running around with a hatchet 1 hitting every zombie would be just dumb, they should maybe come in bigger packs but make them slower*. Something like a large group (or even couple) of zombies is roaming the map. That would be cool. Just imagine the scenario when you are being raided or in a gun fight etc and then half way through that pack shows up and starts closing in fast. The attackers would have to flee or they will be in "crossfire" most likely first ones do die.
Well, since we're throwing out ridiculous suggestions, I'll throw out what I'm currently working on: A one time PvE extravaganza, known simply as the Alpaca-lypse.
What a great thread, I guess the author deserves a free alpha key!!! Just KIDDING!! really i am kidding, dont ban me :D. Glad that I started the thread and have people chewing on ideas. I think some sort of artificial human (Advanced Robot) would be awesome. It worked in SKYRIM (think of the dwarven machines!!!) and I think if done properly would open up some really cool game play. Also if RUST is post-apocalyptic it could fit into the story.. we advanced as a planet enough that our computers became so fast and powerful that they literally had a "mind" of their own (look up quantum cpu's , we are not far off right now!!!)etc... anywho! thanks for the input
More ideas???
Replace zombies with justin bieber and One D fans, so I would risk being shot at to kill some of those fans.
I don't know if there has already been a reason stated to as why the zombies will be replaced, but my suggestion is that they stay as the main enemy type, just be a lot better. I'm thinking more along the lines of "The Walking Dead" type zombies. Have them slow but in large numbers. People and gunshots will draw their attention so it would be advised to use stealth and melee when out hunting for loot. Having them hear gunshots may also reduce the KOS attitude in Rust as players will have to make a decision whether the benefits to killing another with their firearm will outweigh the risk of luring zombies to their position. They could also be more of a threat if they were to attack people's houses so having a well defending house/base becomes even more important. I just feel that they suit this type of game perfectly. And if done well it could provide some fantastic gameplay experiences.
they would have to be some sort of mutated humans or animals due to the radiation. nothing eles would really make sense.
I have to agree, plus the variety of mutated creatures with different abilities and levels of difficulty would add so many layers to the game in comparison to the typical standard-issue zombie.
I would like zombies and maybe some zombie wildlife like zombie bears zombie deer, dogs ect
Dinosaurs
Honestly the only things as cool as Zombies.
I like the idea of mutant bio mechanical humans. Where they have been forced to rebuild their bodies due to the radiation and add implant upgrades.
Zombies is way overused. I kinda liked it when there were only humans. +no radiation. But I'm not the dev. They can do what they want with the game. [editline]7th July 2013[/editline]
I don't understand how that would be unique to Rust. I vote bears though. Big ol' grizzly bears.
Best suggestion ever. Ever.
I don't get why so many come into this thread and type "we shuld use zombies still" or "zombie (insert variation here)". Garry is dropping zombies. Think of something at least remotely original.
I really do like the idea of half-machine creatures dominating the world. It's better than generic radioactive mutants/any type of zombie being milked to death already.
I agree with this, it could be caused by nanomachines or something, like, they invade a host, take control of the brain and start building "augments" on the body.
Zombie clowns :)
I think mutants would be cool, they should be pale white, with red eyes. they should be attracted to light from flares, flashlights, etc. they should emit a screaming sound when they attack you, and all the other mutants in the area will run after you in a pack. they should also spawn heavily in radiated areas. when you die of radiation your dead body should become a mutant. mutants should be scared of fires, so campfires will scare them away.
