Dinosaurs are the best! What about setting the game in a what-if scenario: I think this is the most insane thing I ever though of.[sp]Not really[/sp] A group of scientists discover Time-travel, go back to the Dinosaurs age. Time Machine go wrong, it explode (Time explosion, fuck yeah). Make the ENTIRE island population (Dinosaurs'n'shit) go back in the future. Said island in present time is populated by a lots of people (Players). Because of time ripping itself apart, the island is de-synced time wise, making the island stuck in a limbo. And also because of this, each time someone die, they go nowhere, they just reappear, stuck forever, out of time. Instant Goty right here
how about mountain lions?
Mountain wolves. :D That would be cool and some really high mountains with snow on them
Players / NPCs / wild animals - for day time Some kind of mutated monsters (they need to have red eyes so they stand out at night) that are attracted to heat (so potentially to a fireplace etc) - for the night time.
STOP SUGGESTING ZOMBIES!!!! Look at the name of the thread genius. zombies are being replaced, plain and simple. The devs don't want zombies in the game I guess.
#1 How would you know they are being replaced because thats the main part of Rust.. without zombies there is no Rust. #2 Your a fool.. #3 Ya they said replace zombies but they still might not. #4 You are a fool.
Cats or Dogs
#1 main part of rust is a survival game. #2 You're* a fool. #3 They are the developers of the game, if they say that they will do something it will most likely going to happen. #4 Look back at No2.
I said robots a long time ago. BECAUSE RUST.
Ya they said replace zombies but they still might not.
Garry said it himself that he doesn't want another "zombie survival" game like DayZ.
They should put some kind of Bandit npc's in this. That are like walking around the map.

That's not how to argue, what are you doing?
Personally, I think there needs to be some type of NPC that only comes out at night, and it should be repelled by light sources. Currently there is no real penalty for running around at night with no light. People just turn up their gamma to see. There is however a penalty for using light sources (other players). This NPC mechanic would create a catch 22. Keep your light out to repel the NPC, leaving yourself exposed to players, or run with no light to be safe from players, but leaving yourself exposed to this NPC. Just a thought.
Lots of good ideas here, anyone want to put bets on what the devs will choose?!?!?!?!
Whats the diference between mutants and zombies? Almost none.
You couldn't be more wrong. A zombie is a reanimated corpse, typically human. The only variations being size, speed, damage, or HP. A human mutant would be a human with a mutation of some kind. It could be wings, 8 legs, superhuman speed or strength; basically, with mutants, the possibilities are endless. For reference, see X-Men. Mutants are a much more flexible idea and actually leave room for creativity. Zombies, not so much. To make zombies work, your game has to be entertaining to the core; something which is very hard to achieve in this era of spoiled brat gamers.

I can see mutants being extra limbs/speed/strength, but don't use x-men as a reference. We won't be getting mind controlled.
Why not wildlife, such as wolves, mountain lions, snakes, etc.?
I don't think we're going to see mutants with the x-gene and have laser beam eyes though. I was only trying to move the thought process surrounding "mutant" as astronomically far from zombie as possible with my reference. I suppose "The Thing" or "The Suffering" and "Fallout" would be better examples, more befitting the atmosphere of Rust. Even "Deep Space" has some good examples of mutant freaks with some character.
I also think that zombies shouldn't be replaced. Yes they are generic and overused but it's for a reason, they are awesome as hell! Also the game is more inclined on the building a base and trying to take someone else base and inventory. I think that it'd be cool if the zombies were a bigger part of the game. Let's say you have a really big number of them, but at the same time they are very weak(pretty much like they are atm). You could then use their massive number to defend your own base by luring them to your own, or even lure them to some else and make him defend himself from the zombie while you operate to take his items and so on. Basically to add another dynamic to the whole fight for the buildings but always in that sense, because let's face it, it's the greatest part of Rust!
Cordyceps [editline]15th July 2013[/editline] Cordyceps, and speacial types of them. Even multiple types of zombies and zombie animals. Or since there is Radiation it would make sense to use Mutated humans and creatures. Mutants would probably be the best, with a mutated turtle as an Easter Egg. If mutants make it in, it would be cool to have them all randomly made, so that there isn't just one select type of mutant. Because mutated creatures or humans realistically would never be the same. That would be cool.
Mutant humans and animals
Excuse me there are already animals.
I wish a dev would chime in~!
Wolves would be cool you could make packs of them and they are the symbol of the wild. [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] Wolves would be cool you could make packs of them
People asking for keys [editline]17th July 2013[/editline] oh
lol
Definitely ghost so then there are 2 factions like on the hidden and use that as a mob
The only problem I have with wolves and other wildlife, they just seem to plain. I want to see some ethereal stuff, and I would guess the guys at Facepunch do too, since they used Zombies originally. Normal wolves, even in packs, are just too boring. Now a wolf that's got a jaw like the Violater's... that would be cool, and scary to boot. It all boils down to what mechanics we've got in the game, wildlife, radiation, a mass of enemies, and survival tools. Regular animals are just cattle and our enemies should be mutated masses that we've only seen in our worst nightmares. With claws.
Any fresh comers with ideas><>
why not sharks and tornados... SHARKNADO
why not sharks and tornados... SHARKNADO
If you're going to bump a 2 month old thread, at least come up with something actually good.
