Here's a solution for you.
Add the "take all" button. But make it have a timer depending on how much shit is there.
It get's trivial and boring dragging and dropping, this feature would remove the boring part but keep the suspense for being exposed.
/Edit.
Actually... when you click take all it should slowly loot one item at a time just starting from the top. Then you won't "loose it all" if you start running in the middle of looting.
I don't want the take all button. I would rather have more realistic looting, i wouldn't want someone to kill me press E on my bag then press "take all" and just run. If im killed outside my house the person will take time to loot me and while they do that i can respawn and run back outside and shoot them.
Take all would be way too unbalanced and make it too easy to just clean sweep bases/bodies.
It should work similar to other games where Shift click or Right Mouse click will move the item to your inventory instantly (dragging + some lag in the GUI tends to cause a lot of problems IMO).
You should still have to go item by item and prioritize what you loot first.
Besides, even if there was a "loot all" button, it would end up taking the rocks / torches and other bullshit and filling your inventory with crap first most times where you'd have to drop half the loot anyways.
Just make looting involve something besides dragging to a slot and it'll help exponentially without unbalancing the game.
I can see how it would be a little unbalanced, but that shift click thing you guys are talking about seems pretty fair.
In my opinion if the rust servers Arent owned by garry when the full game is releaced
It should be an option for the server owner
Learn to Drag n drop faster
I can see someone frantically picking up and throwing items in their pack, not caring for organization when holding the shift key. Inventory will be a clutter and nothing is auto-stacked with this feature, but it is a quick grab and go. Each item must still be clicked to put in your back, so its not a simple "win" button, but it is faster than manual dragging.
Dragging the items manually increases organization and helps with space and clutter.
Being able to destroy items with a button is a no. If you want to destroy something, it takes effort. Throw the item on the ground and beat it a few times with a pickaxe if you really want it dead. A destroy button leads to just plain darn griefing, etc. Perhaps an alternate button to throw things on the ground instead of in your pack like ctrl or alt.
i agree the way it is now adds more excitement/risk. BUT, what would be an even better compromise would be to allow different backpacks to be equipped and traded. this way if someone has better stuff on him you can quickly trade packs, then pick out the individual items you still want. this would make it better for us new player underdogs, to be able to quickly swap inventories and have a fighting chance at fending off the wolf pack. then to have the backpack as a craftable item would be awesome. bigger packs at the cost of movement speed, or even to ditch a pack to gain some speed and hopefully distract your pursuer
Don't add it back!
