They're communicating just fine it's just there's a ton of the MC autist crowd bitching about the dumbest shit whilst not even paying attention
I'm getting the feeling that "Snickerdoodle" is your alt, seeing as he follows you from thread to thread to immediately upvote all of your posts and downvote anyone who doesn't agree with you.
If not than you guys should date, because he seems to be your soul mate, you agree on everything.
Also, I believe you were trying (and failed) at spelling "autistic". That's really ignorant and offensive. If you're trying to make a point, you can do better than that.
This shit is no substitute for good communication.
I don't know how long you've been following the Trello, but there are things that have been added that were never even hinted at on Trello, and there are things that sounded like they were making great progress and had great momentum and then just disappeared. It is an interesting insight into what is going on, but it IS not a developer-to-the-community communication device and is no substitution for one.
Others made a really good point in that THEY were the ones who wanted to strive for weekly updates. It's hardly an unreasonable expectation that this would at least mean weekly communication updates if they aren't able to hit weekly delivery updates. If things truly are exactly where they were a week ago and there isn't possibly anything you can think of to say (hard to believe), then they should say that, and they should do it without being an ass about it -- they are the ones that set the expectations.
Apparently have been following better than you since the stuff in the game was on the trello. They remove the entries after they're added for obvious reasons. This is better than a "sorry no update guys but we got some big stuff coming" like you're asking for. I'm seeing the stuff get updated hour by hour.
This isn't even meant for us, this is there for the devs to communicate to each other, we get to watch. That's better than any blog post making vague promises.

You think I made an account months apart, made nearly the same amount of posts, paid for gold member on it, and a title on it which mine doesn't even have itself, on a site where the IP addresses are checked and alts are permbanned, just to agree with myself against you?
Autist is a person with autism, I can tell you're too young and angsty to realize that but keep up. As for being offended, boo hoo, like I said in the other thread you're in the wrong site, for a multitude of reasons. Thinking ratings matter for one. Besides, you tried to get under my skin by insinuating I am homosexual.

Don't start this shit.
Just because I agree with someone about using a website /= I'm their alt.
That's really goddamn childish.

It's like I'm back in the third grade.

They don't remove the cards, they archive them, and they are all still available. Provide me the trello cards for the spiked walls to prove that everything in the game was on the trello. I will provide you links for the helicopter as an example of something that was making good progress then just disappeared.

My point exactly.

Yeah, but not better than any blog post that provides a modicum of decent community-targeted communication.

So that you have a problem with, but no issue with him using autism as a derogatory term to describe a group of people who disagree with him.
I apologize for my part in being childish. Just can't stand people like that. I'm done though. You two do your thing.

Thanks garry <3 that's what most of us wanted to hear. Even though this may sound wrong to a lot of people and the devs but most of the playerbase dont know anything about game dev or programming at all. Most of the player base just like to read a basic information about the game and check for updates. A nice and "normal" update is the way to comunicate with those players. That's why a post like garry did today is important.
A simple and clean : What we did today, what we were thinking about rust and what we are planning.
It's not about the update or the lack of update but the lack of information <3. Most of us look for updates on trello, your twitter or somewhere else but i bet that at least half of the playerbase jus check playrust.com or steam rust main page for info and thats all. They see no update information there for weeks and they automatically assume that the game is not progressing at all.
Can you blame them ? i dont think so. Updating the main page and portal is always a nice way to keep the community informed.
Thanks for the update there <3 I expect and bet that the "omg no update ?!?! " topics will be gone now :P.

YES. Holy crap, thank you. This is exactly what I want to see (i.e. anything at all).
Thanks Garry. I know posting that probably felt like a waste of time, but it's not. It makes a huge difference. Thanks again, keep it up!
I stopped playing rust because there is nothing new in it and it became boring.

When procedurally generated terrain comes into play, this shouldn't be the case.

Nice, a new post and a commitment to provide weekly communication updates.
I am guessing instead of all the fanboys saying 'Sorry we flamed you for having this expectation' they will say things like 'are you happy now?' and expect all the criticism, even the constructive and reasonable criticism, to cease (which it won't and shouldn't).
Oh, we have some clarification now. Sounds like Rust was not truly in an alpha state yet, it was really a prototype.
Well that's disappointing. I was hoping to hear they are working on some awesome things that just aren't quite ready yet. Instead they've been optimizing, refactoring, and not working as much as usual. I'm guessing at least another week before the next update.

If you've been part of a project involving programming, you'd know how much work this stuff requires.
Debugging is utter hell.
Please let this thread die.

I have. It sounds like they're refactoring, not debugging. Refactoring can be quite enjoyable IMO. To the user it seems like time spent going nowhere though.

It says that for this to be possible that things need to change, not that they were committing to them. Pointing this out so we're not back to this thread next week.
We could post an update saying the exact same thing we posted a couple of weeks ago. Would that help ? Can't you just wait until we have something new to say?
We're not sitting around doing nothing. We have a lot of work to do. That's what we're concentrating on. I was talking about weekly communication updates, not weekly software updates. I will edit to clarify.

I don't normally post on these forums, but this post caused me to change my policy.
First, let me give you a bit of background about myself. I have been a professional software developer, where I worked on a 3D engine for a few years for a GIS company, and now I'm a PhD student in computer science. So, I have some conception of how software development, and 3D graphics development works. I also am familiar with the idea that you cant suddenly hire a bunch of people and suddenly have your project move much faster. I understand something of the limitations you are operating under.
Having said that, I'm deeply disappointed as a customer and fan, both with the state of the development, and the fact that you would respond to your customers complaints, many of which are legitimate, in such an unprofessional manner. I wont re-litigate the whole issue of the slow development, except to say that taking time to remove zombies, add durability, and then take weeks to fix air drops, is ridiculous. My buddy hacked together a script to fix air drops in under an hour for our server, and yet there was no official fix for this bug for how long? Right after such a slew of non-changes? I think if you put yourself in your customers shoes there you'd understand why they are disappointed. Your customers do not care that your GUI code is not maintainable. Probably most of them do not care about the GUI at all. Priorities need to be adjusted.
Regardless, even if the development schedule is on track and taking a reasonable amount of time, the fact that you think its acceptable to write posts to your fans like this is very disappointing. These people love your game, gave you millions of dollars, and are eager to see what you have next. Some of them are posting impatiently, but to respond in that manner is not only rude and unprofessional, but silly. These are the people who love your game, what do you think you are gaining by irritating them? How do you think posts like this strike the people who didnt post anything, but basically agree with their general take that the pace of development is slow and communication poor? For myself, it makes me regret my purchase. Since I basically had a good view of the developer and the game prior to that, I think that should give you pause for thought.
You do have to give him a little credit today. He did post a Friday Devblog, which most people were asking him to do. But you are correct his comments were a little over the line.
Or maybe he's just being an ass because most people on this forum can be an ass.

I could totally reply in a 'professional manner' if that's what people really want. But I don't think people want to be bullshitted. They want to be responded to like a friend would respond to them. We're not running a bank. We're making games.

Is that really how you respond to your friends? I doubt it.
Regardless, there is a middle ground between responding in PR-speak, and how you responded. For myself, you would generate more good will by seeking the middle ground.
Believe it or not, I have been doing this for 10 years. I think I've got a pretty good handle on how to communicate properly with the community. But thanks for the advice. I'm sorry you didn't like what I posted in a thread on a forum. I'm sorry that made you regret buying a game that I made.
