Share them then. Still doesn't change the fact that you are using them against Facepunch's will.
Expose a working environment to what end? So that when everyone starts using it my updates no longer work? This seems counterintuitive.
My files are not out of date. I was stating that you can find out of date files elsewhere on the internet if you're so inclined. Keep up with the conversation if you're going to try and participate please.
If you got your files from a former host, then those files are out of date unless they became 'former' less than a week ago since the last update. Regardless, this mechanism isn't available to the OP, and we are talking about what is possible for the OP. If I worked at Facepunch, it would be a lot easier to set up a dev environment, but I wouldn't blast people for not being able to do it as easily as me. Edit: I realized I may have misapplied the term 'former'. If you meant you are still downloading files from a host that still does hosting but you no longer have a server, then you are saying that you are currently getting files from a host you no longer paying for. Interesting.
EagleOne, send me a PM and I will help you out.
tl;dr for anyone who doesn't want to read all of this: OP wants to learn some new stuff so RustyValve feels the compulsive urge to make himself feel superior to everyone else in the thread. Rusty, get over yourself, no one is impressed. EagleOne, I hope you get a chance to do what you wanna do, I'd love to tinker with that kind of stuff but I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to start.
Hence, I stick to startups and game devs where people aren't scared of intelligence.
No, you go to start-ups because you can act like a prick and they'll think it shows you're "alpha" and "confident" and "really know your stuff" and you can bully them into doing everything your way because they don't know any better. In reality, the most aggressive people in the workforce are generally the least skilled, so they put on a hardcore front to look productive. Now, I'm not debating that you're good, you're probably just fine. Your attitude is unrelated to your skill, though. I've known old timers who could code anything from assembly to C++ in their sleep and they weren't jerks because they knew they were awesome and didn't have to ram it down everyone's throat. You'll only be as good as you think you are when you stop thinking you have to prove it to everyone.
