Version 2 looks really nice, i'd like that one:)
This was just a little experiment, what do you think? Higher Quality: http://i.imgur.com/Rtv5Iu1.png

I know it may sound stupid, but can you maybe edit one to have some bullet holes or something in it? that might be kinda cool, I am no artsy person, so I couldn't say if that would ever turn out well, but call it a request  Also if you want to keep the silhouettes, I would recommend moving them to the background rather than into the logo.

I'll keep trying though.
I have been trying to get some bullet holes in the logos, but it's a lot harder than you think. As for the silhouettes, definitely move them to the background and lighten them up a bit, and see how that looks, maybe?
Here's a preview of what I have done so far. Any suggestions? Higher Quality: http://i.imgur.com/2giaYMA.png
Looks like the cheesy stickers people put on the side of their car.
Yeah I gotta agree, it looks a bit cheesy and cliche, change it up some, but I love what you did with the logo, that looks really cool.
Yeah I gotta agree, it looks a bit cheesy and cliche, change it up some, but I love what you did with the logo, that looks really cool.
Change it up some how? I'm completely open to suggestions!
Change it up some how? I'm completely open to suggestions!
Well, go look up some bullet holes for inspiration, I am no sort of graphics artist, but I can tell you that is not what a bullet hole looks like. Also, maybe add some rust to the edges of the hole and the logo, you know, cuz it is rust and all
I have been trying to get some bullet holes in the logos, but it's a lot harder than you think. I'll keep trying though.
Super easy, actually. But whatever.
Super easy, actually. But whatever.
well if it's so easy, then why don't you do it?
well if it's so easy, then why don't you do it?
Because I really don't feel like doing graphics for a pointless redesign of an already-established logo without getting paid for it. And bullet holes are gimmicky.
well if it's so easy, then why don't you do it?
It's because it's not easy. Also, here's a version without bullet holes. Sadly I screwed up my Photoshop document and I will not be working on this version anymore.
How about changing the looks of original logo? Make it a little "darker" with some rust/decay too? I'd do it myself but i'm not really an artist. :downs: <- wtf, well ill be damned how old member i am here... 2006 and 1 post
Sadly I screwed up my Photoshop document
Photoshop? Logos should really be done in Illustrator.
Photoshop? Logos should really be done in Illustrator.
i will destroy you do not resist
Originally the logo before was alright, but after a few days the team picked out a bunch of new logos off a spread-sheet, the one in use now is the one they liked best from the designer on their team, I don't blame them, it is simple and unique and identifiable. We all have our opinions though. :) keep trying out some new things and who knows!

It looks kinda like an ultra ball
i will destroy you do not resist
Not really to sure what your problem is here. Illustrator is what the logo work should at least be started in. Hell, you can download the Ai file for Rusts logos right from the front page of the website.
Illustrator should be used for logos. Not sure why you would use Photoshop. Personally, I prefer the original.
Just make the rust logo a narwhal and everyone can shut the fuck up about it. Or, if you REALLY want to portray the Rust franchise you could have a picture of some guy walking through walls, or looting your shit through walls, or your walls getting blown up by 1000's of c4! WOOOO!
I decided to give it a shot. Here is the my first one. Took the illustrator file, centered it, cleaned it up a little. Added an inside shadow. Second one I lighted up the drop shadow. I think I like this better of the two. Third up is probably my second favorite. Its simple and kind of cartoony. Feels more fitting for the world of rust. Added a border around it and gave it a drop shadow. Kind of combined all three and added a little "rust" to this one. And last and, my personal favorite, is this one. I just like the way it looks set into the orange. as someone with actual experience and education in graphic works, there's one tenet in logo design that must apply to everything: it must be transferable to any material or surface and still be recognizable. that's why the original Rust logo is so clean cut, why the Dota 2 logo is so clean cut, and why the Facepunch logo is so clean cut. the whole "decayed with bullet holes" thing has to work, but the logo has to be designed with it in mind, not as an afterthought. Now take a look at the original from the very original logo from the Rust website: you were right in one thing - the spacing is off, and for me that isn't even the worst part! you can clearly see artifacts from rotation via Free Transform in the topmost "exclamation point." beyond that, though, the design meets the single most important criteria.
I like the first one most, and the second last one isn't bad either. The other ones seem like you're trying too hard, or not trying hard enough. Just plastering an effect onto something and calling it a logo is a poor way to make art. Not bad though. Pretty good actually. I didn't know Illustrator could do stuff like that.

Most of it was finished in Photoshop but starting in Illustrator makes everything easier. After looking at them for a few minutes third is probably my favorite. I rounded the corners a little, gave it just a softer look. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] Was actually in the middle of making this when I read your post Exo, wasn't really liking the "rust" look as much as I thought I was. also after opening the AI logo it quickly became apparent to me that the photos they are using on their respective websites as well as the Steam page are not the correct "fixed" version they have uploaded as an AI document. :v:

You have a shadow implying that it's going INTO the picture, but the emboss implies that it's crawling OUT of the picture.
