Frankly I don't know why the emboss is being used so much at all... makes it look like a bunch of buttons. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] And the ??? is just a button that is flush with whatever it's embedded into.
The problem with all these "enhanced" logos is that they're destroying the clean cut look the original logo is going for.
Photoshop? Logos should really be done in Illustrator.
Absolutely that's where most logos are made. Raster based images really limit you opposed to Vector which is infant scalable without nasty pixels. With ILL you can kind of wing it as long as you keep the AI file. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] Just messing around with 3D and gradient meshin Illustrator.
Using the existing logo elements, I have come up with an improved logo as well that accurately represents an important aspect of the game, an aspect even more important than the radiation.

The only difference I see is that your version is blurry as fuck and doesn't have clean sleek lines like the original, plus that new icon you made is pixely as fuck. It's not supposed to be completely semetrical from the central block either, regardless of how big of a photoshop measurer expert you are you have garbage artistic value.

All that has been done is a re-size of the entire image and the middle square has moved slightly, really not an improvement, it looks bad. Why not just move the middle square and chill out. [editline]6th January 2014[/editline]
The problem with all these "enhanced" logos is that they're destroying the clean cut look the original logo is going for.
Quoted for Fkin truth dude.
Looks like a mechanical pacman.
I want to punch you in your stupid fucking ignorant face. If you FUCKING READ THE NAME, you'd get the joke. I don't fucking care if you steal it. In fact, I WANT YOU TO STEAL IT. THAT IS AN ARTIST'S DREAM. I made a logo. Go paint your walls with it. Go tattoo it on the side of your cock. Go murder someone and carve my logo into their chest, I DON'T FUCKING CARE. tl;dr READ THE NAME AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN, UNTIL YOU GET THE FUCKING JOKE. And yeah, I am mad. You're such an "pretentious bastard" that you're too fucking lazy to read and thus assume other people are assholes when in fact, you're the asshole here.
I can't stop laughing at this. At least we know his art and his arguments come from the same place, I'm thinking just south of his tailbone Anyway: I have no problems with the official logo except for the one mentioned by protocol:
you can clearly see artifacts from rotation via Free Transform in the topmost "exclamation point."
That bugs me not due to OCD or anything, but simply because it seems unprofessional. The nice simply logo is perfectly fine, a touch up so it doesn't look like it was made by a 12 year old in paint is all it needs. Embossing looks horrible always. Period. Nobody emboss anything ever again unless the three dimensional effect is due to the logo being an object, like the dota logo (Which is only embossed in loading screens, to my knowledge)

Wow i feel sorry for OP. I've noticed this forum is all about shitting on people, especially those that don't 100% love the game and everything about it as is. Personally i didn't think the OP came of as pretentious he brought up his thoughts on why he didn't like the older version and made a new one. Instead of saying it's bad or insulting OP, why not bring up some constructive criticisms?

I don't think OP was pretentious either, he just wants to share his work and improve it, and I respect that, it's certainly better than "hey, come look at this funny video I made!"
Hey, I took your logo and updated it. Here's a couple versions. Or this one, slight modification:
The OP was totally find until he started raging at the CC that people were attempting to give him. If you can't take CC, then you need to find something to do other than art. If you're insistent on art then you'd better learn how to take CC, because that's the only way you're going to get better.

Most of the criticism he recieved he took.... as well as anyone does. On the other hand. He did fly of the fucking handle. jesus. Nothing really warranted that reaction. It sort of spoiled the tone of this thread.

What comes to my mind when someone mentions "redesigning a logo" is changing the base shape, not adding effects such as bevel, 3D perspective, etc.
Being a fucking idiot and not paying attention isn't CC.
The point of the criticisms is to learn from it. Even if they have no idea what they are saying, they still might have something that you can learn from. I am no artist, but I know how to take criticism, it's like half of the learning experience, I have found. Just keep improving your work, listen to all feedback, good and bad, don't lash out at people over it, and you will find yourself improving.
Version #1; Rust Enhanced An edited version of the logo to be simply nicer. Higher Quality: http://i.imgur.com/lQvIPH5.png Before & After: http://i.imgur.com/9vj0fG6.png
Sometimes cleaner is better, and more is shit. It seems like everytime someone discovers photoshop they want to play with all of the features and add effects to everything. If you look at modern website design, things often look more like the Rust logo as opposed to the things you are creating. This isn't 2004.
The original logo looks fine as it is. Flat and clean.
@OP: Stop wasting your time so called "avid movie and image editor." Why are even saying the original logo is ugly. You showed no skills of making logos and you're unprofessional at doing it. Why do you even add a copyright label on your low quality logo. I don't think any company would hire you to make logo for their company. Try doing some graphic tutorials before you jump ahead and saying you make it seem like a career. For someone like me that does graphics as a hobby, I think I can substantially outperform you.
http://epicandrew25.deviantart.com
This means nothing, I meant go out and modify the logo. On that, not too bad, you do have some talent, but try to be a bit more constructive in criticism rather than be an outright prick.
I don't make vectors and logos at the moment. I love to make signatures, but maybe I try something new. There are all types of Graphic Designers that does different varieties of graphics. Modifying a logo or someone's work is wrong. It's like taking Rust logo and just adding some changes and claiming that you have made the logo. Like I said, I do Graphics as a hobby not as a career.
