All the comments I read on these forums ,whining about killing newbies. Tell me , how exactly do we know you are a newb? because you are naked? Or maybe you say you are? Or perhaps you shout "friendly" over voip? Well **NEWSFLASH** Naked guys carry guns too you know. People lie. Its a survival game and I for one wont wait to find out if you are what you say you are.
I started playing just a few days ago and ,yes, I got killed loads at first untill I realised I only had myself to blame for the constant dying. So I re-strategised and kept away from everyone , chose my moments to farm in low population areas/times and now I'm doing very well thanks. I never came here to cry about it on the forums. ( although I did rage from time to time in game chat)
The point being, people should stop moaning about n00b killing and expecting everyone to change how they play to accomodate their own lack of common sense. Its a survival game , use your brains and start surviving, You dont HAVE to be in a group to progress in the game.
Its not all bad. The last week I have been killed and raided nonstop. Today I logged on and was killed by some guy hiding in my base. I was fairly weak but it was a decent amount of loot i lost and I was back to nothing.
Since then I have played for about an hour and bumped into 5 people who all ended up being friendly, between giving me food and cloths to one guy even killing a bear for me. All without me asking.
I now have a crap base but I have resources again and im surviving :)
So if you guys are encountering this issue, I'm curious to see what suggestions you might have to remedy it? We're already planning a few things but lets see what the community says
Remove name changing for a start.
Those who mention a form of humanity system. How about not penalize those idiots that KOS but reward those who have a good humanity level. Something like gather resources quicker ect.
But then how do you know if you killed a bad guy or not?
Slightly off topic, I know groups/clans thing is highly unlikely, but I do wish I could ID friends (icon above their head). Everyone looks the same.
It's like
-It's that you over there with the kevlar?
-Yeah
*another dude with same clothes.
Kill anyone that looks suspicious or anyone that gets too close.
ATM it's kill or be killed, either way, you're going to get raided anyway.
Something else I've noticed, all the bad guys come out at dawn to kill.
It was out for about 1 and a half years. He said he play for 1 1/2 years, not 2. I'm tired of stupid people on these forums...
lol in his original post he said he played dayz for several years (about 3).
Remove name changing for a start.
Edit name changing to a point where no one can have the same name, thus having a different name or numbers in their name.
Establish a safe zone around spawn locations to allow people to gear up a little before being shot. That might help a little. Let me know what you think.
After buying a key about a month ago, i vowed to play the same lifestyle I had in DayZ. I would never shoot at another player unless i was shot at. I would give food and water to people who needed it, and i would give people the benefit of the doubt. Now, occasionally there were bandits. Occasionally, I deserved the bullet to the head for my trusting nature. But here, in Rust, it's a whole different story. I've honestly tried to live a good, charitable life in this game, but to what purpose? On one occasion, I gave a fresh spawn a p250, only to get shot as i left him with good luck. I've opened my door to give someone food, only to find that that bambi has a squad of full kevlar friends, and to recieve loads of m4 rounds to the chest. Honestly, I'm curious as to what makes people so aggressive. The psyche of people in real life definitely can't be to kill every charitable person that exists!
So, I'm at odds. Do I give in to the Rust, and KOS? or, do I try and maintain my humanity, and keep playing the same way I do?
I'm up for opinions and comments. I look forward to any of your constructive comments. Hell, write me a story if you wish.[/QU
I have tried to do the same thing but people in this game just dont care. I have been slaughtered countless of times for no reason. Now when i see someones its shoot on sight cause if i dont there just gonna kill me.

what if inventory dictated a unseen value scaling 1-10, i.e. if your naked but have full kev and a shotgun waiting to swap - your value is 10. if you kill somebody of lesser value, say a spawnie with a value of 1, 10 zombies should rise from the ground. if they can't find a challenge in killing lesser equipped players, give them a challenge to fight for their own survival. if a player with a hatchet, value 2, kills off a spawnie; he is attacked by a wolf or maybe nothing at all. Those who are charitable by giving away goods, goods have a dollar value, could be rewarded with an increase trait i.e. 'luck %'. higher the 'luck', better raiding loot for schematics, possibly non-schematic clothes, or maybe home decor. just a suggestion

So if I have a group of say 3 friends we just trade back and fourth until we look charitable? Then we get the amazing blueprints, custom clothes and home decor.

It'd be pretty trivial to assign diminishing returns to trade scamming behaviour like that. After, say, 3 trades with the same person, your karma/reputation goes up by a fraction of the original trades' bonus until you finally stop getting any bonus at all from that person, and it doesn't reset for, say, 12-24 hours. If in-game clans were implemented with this karma system, I imagine you wouldn't get any bonus from trading with anyone inside of your own clan.
It's not too difficult to detect and inhibit simple reputation-boosting.
I believe the whole concept of this game, is survival in an apocalyptic world. In real life you don't get to say "hey god, can you do something about these people that have guns and huge bases? I can't do anything without them trying to kill me." In real life, you would hide, and stay as far away from people with guns as possible, and try to establish a way to "live your life", which is what you should do in the game. People are going to also raid other houses that arent theirs, because they want to make their own groups life in the apocalypse easier, even if its at someone elses expense. One thing they haven't added, but I believe they should, (because this would happen in apocalypse scenarios) is cannibalism. If it was really the end of the world, and some guys grouped up together to "survive the apocalypse", do you really think they are going to help anyone that comes along? No, they save the resources for their own group, and kill anyone who isnt in their group to gain more resources for themselves (the resources you have on you, and your own body as food for them) to make their own lives easier. If anyone watches the walking dead, you can understand where I'm coming from. People who try to help others when there is not enough to go around, die. You can't trust ANYONE in this game, unless you have taken the risk to join together as a "group/clan/team/community".
Remember, its a survival game. Everyone is trying to make their own lives better, not yours, so never give anyone the benefit of the doubt, unless you can afford to (confidence in base defence, or you literally have nothing to lose).

There's an interesting and kind of unintuitive aspect to evolution, and that is that, at a fundamental level, it favours cooperation. Beyond a certain point, a selfish being hits a wall and cannot improve except by spending hundreds of generations becoming biologically more efficient at taking in nutrients/calories, and even that will have an ultimate limit due to the limits of biology and physics.
So, it's kind of short-sighted to say that you should only be selfish.
me and my friends use Teamspeak: ts.playrust.net
Its a good place to go to find other players to survive with or if you want to use there teamspeak for your clan.

As the Noob who gets killed after spawning I understand your point that it a survival game and that other players cant trust who is a noob/new spawn.
But after playing the game for a week or so I have tried numerous ways of playing the game and all end up in the same fate of getting killed and losing every thing and starting over again. The problem is that its impossible to do anything after couple days of the server running if you start the game for the first time or re spawn and you have lost everything including camp spawn. And it not just because of the clans killing you and controlling the resource/spawn area but also from zombies, animals and even hunger. There has being times when I have spawned and there is a wolf right next to me, or ive built a shelter and then try and get food but I cant because no animal spawns or because there is a wolf right next to a food source.
Getting spawn killed is a big issue that need to be solved by the devs and for me it a big turn off to playing the game and ive had a friend who stopped playing because of this issue.
