• Plans for a knife?

I like knives as a weapon of choice, but practicably, the stone hatchet is gonna win for clubbage/cutting (as far as the hotbar goes). Knives would only be better than even the metal hatchet if used by stealth or if thrown, in a general way. But stealth and throwing is a lot to consider at this stage(?) (or is it?) Personally, I'd like the see Knife, Hatchet, Axe and Pick-axe as the typical tools for a survivor, the axe being a replacement for the hatchet, costing more to craft. Knife would yield more from animals more quickly than the hatchet. Hot bar could have a couple more slots maybe... total 8 or 10? A nice, big knife, or even a bayonet, would be cool, (secondary attack). A crude spear or club, even a hefty branch-like whalloper, would also be cool, get all UG the caveman n stuff. Someone mentioned skins for the same weapon, so a hatchet could look like a sword, a baseball bat or even a rubber-chicken... Be great to have toggles for weapons that servers allow or not allow - like the full modern or the full scavenger sets. I forgot the hammer, ( I agree, it's a good idea) as a building tool, maybe like a portable workbench of sorts, allowing one to build. Maybe later there might be a situation where we have the ghost of the item we want built once we've place it, and we then hammer it a bit to make it solid.
Well a hatchet is a small axe. The weight of a hatchet is approximately around 0.5kg where a average sized wood axe is around 2kg. But a knife, an average hunting knife is around 0.2kg so the knife is still allot lighter then a hatchet. However its very hard to kill some one with a knife if you don't know what you're doing with it. Sure making him bleed with a stab or a slash is easy but it probably wont kill him. Well if you don't wait 20 min or so until he bleeds to death that is. But with a hatchet you can cause allot more blunt force trauma that will knock him out.
yeah thinking about it it probably shouldn't do as much damage per swing as a hatchet, but would have a fast attack speed, but maybe a higher chance to make somebody bleed. Mainly I just see it as a useful tool to implement harvesting animals if it just had a faster attack speed it also might balance it out against going somebody with a hatchet or pick axe, so it would give the user a choice of their preferred melee style.
