As a shitty cheater myself, I deal with VAC all the time. (Source: My Profile)
VAC Banns will only effect the game engine you were banned on. Specifically the revision. Did you know TF2 and CSGO run two different versions of source? Yeah, they do. I've been vac'd from CSGO. Was I vac'd from tf2? No, I wasnt.
How incorrect is VAC?
Vac is almost never incorrect. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few times
1. MW2 was updated, but the .dll wasnt. This caused like 12k people banned. VAC made an apology and not only reversed it, but gave them a free game.
2. drunkenf00l was VAC'd for predicting a tf2 golden wrench drop. IIRC this was uplifted.(?)
3. There has been 1-5 cases of viruses specifically targeting hl2.exe, injecting itself into it, and causing vac bans. These also, have been uplifted as I've witnessed them myself.
The chances of you being vac banned wrongly is so small, that I would literally toxx myself over it. The chances are near 0. Don't do something that is cheating related, and you won't be banned. Simple as that.
If you were VAC'd, you were banned legitimately.

I'm guessing the reason there isn't a sticky explaining roughly how VAC works, and where someone would go to get unbanned if it was actually a false positive, is because it would make it easier for people determined to cheat to find out the methods that aren't detected and not get caught.
They should just hire more community moderators and make sure these threads vanish when they're posted, so there'd be no incentive for making them or for arguing with the OP.
