Larger Maps should be considered, Too cramped at the moment.
I don't think a lot of players would be willing to upgrade their PC just so they could play Rust "decently". It's just not worth it. I'm playing on a laptop that runs some high-end games just fine, it should be able to run Rust with no problems when it's optimized.
But, just think about that. How many Rust players have a "real" gaming PC? I know I don't. I know a lot of them don't either. The voices of those who don't should be heard, otherwise they'll leave the game, and the playerbase will slowly decrease. And I think nobody wants that to happen.
Well the way things are going its getting harder and harder to run this game Ive got friends that are struggling to play the game and it seems to get worse after most updates
And when it rains it can be a nightmare for some players (although i do like the rain ) but i use a gaming desk top but even some of the decent desk tops can struggle
of course it not properly optimized as yet be if they are not careful by the time the game it is optimized the player base could have dwindled significantly
I suppose larger or more dense maps could make things a all lot worse to be honest
I still feel like some of you guys haven't even screwed around with the seed sizes yet.
6000 seed is over twice the size of the standard 4000 seed. It gets to 8000 right, before being screwy?
8000 server seed is 4 times bigger than a 4000 seed.
Rust already has the potential of a 64km2 area.
Some huge fucking maps right there already.
And i suppose servers don't run these seeds because of player lag and running the game capabilities if that's the case we have these kind of problems already

Servers don't run these seeds because it is boring as fuck.
At first I thought the map to be rather large, but after doing a great deal of travel, I quickly came to realize that the maps are actually very small.
+1 for larger maps.
+2 for "loltoys" for vehicles.

THANK YOU :D It seems only the people that actually play this game notice that. People have such small attention spans they think a big map will be boring. It really wont be that bad.
I run a 4K and a 6K map. This wipe I'm reducing to 4K - proc gen makes the maps pretty blah square blocks of sameness any higher than that. The new dungeons are a good start to breaking that up though.
What we really need is effective camouflage and animals that can't walk through walls necessitating a 2 story structure.

That's the thing, right now? Larger maps aren't that ideal. (At least to some people, I love huge maps) Anyway, we don't have enough content right now to even think of larger maps. BUT this suggestion is for down the road when we DO have all that lovely content.
We need places to explore. So when we get those new places, how will they all fit on a smaller map? They wont. So instead, we need to expand it.
If cars are implemented, there will be plenty of driving room and no one would complain about distance. People simply fear change.

Local host the server and find out what these maps are like for yourself. The tools are right there for you to see.
From your tone it's clear you haven't even tried.

I play ARMA 3 Breaking Point... If you don't know what that is, it's nothing but a massive map that takes about a few hours to walk across the entire thing.
I understand massive maps, but I also understand all of this comes from short attention spans. People only want instant gratification nowadays. That's the hard truth.
long term i think large map issues need to be rectified. the whole point of having a dynamically generated map is to have variable terrain created easily. if every map has the same amount of land mass, it limits the variety.
They need to optimize the game first.
Just being near rocks kills my fps (we are talking drops to 40fps from 100fps)
I currently play on a 3k map, we are upsizing to a 6k map after todays wipe, most of us are running with a decent spec PC, if you own a low spec PC then you will probs be limited to a smaller map size. Why the fuck should players with high spec PC's have to be crippled to smaller maps just because others have lower spec PC's, the game/servers should be able to be optimised to play at the highest specs/map sizes that a ultra high end PC can handle. I believe servers should be placed in catagories to show this. Save your spending money and by a decent graphics card !!!
The idea is to eventually have inter-connected server nodes make up a larger experience.
I would like bigger maps again. But the small maps do force you to wok with other players.
I'm on salt lake small and yea it's tiny. I have been helping others set up by me for safe space and to keep raids at bay.
Now I have a small town on the river when I was the only one there. And we work together it's some I have not done in rust. And it's fun

I think a lot of the open empty space that results from larger map sizes should turn into lakes. The bigger the map, the bigger lakes you can have. Larger maps could have more naval warfare in that case while smaller maps were more skirmishy like the game is now.

That's one of the problems with most current 4k seeds, now almost half the map is lakes and estuaries, reducing usable land and making it harder to move around.
Right, but in time, they could be resolved. It would be worth going through the bugfixes if it meant a better game. Right now, we have a lot of issues of this game not being too replayable. I'm a patient dude, but even I get worn out after a really beautiful base I've made (The tenth one) gets demolished because I needed to sleep.
On point. I have the exact same problem dude! Im a very patient person in rust too but as you said, being raided over and over again when you actually have built a huge "safe" base is making me frustrated but the worst thing is that my less patient team is losing members :/
I play Rust very much, i would consider myself having tons of free time and i can spend much time on this very funny game! I sit up very late in the weekends and play but i can't go to sleep without being raided. Playing rust if you go to school or work is almost impossible too at this point, an example: We had wait for the wipe, the wipe came out in late evening, we secure a cave and go to bed. When i wake up before i go to school i start up rust and getting raided by people with AKS?? Does rust players not go to scool or work nowadays?

Stop going on 100+ pop servers and the maps will be "bigger"

Also, think of strategies to prevent base demolishing due to your limited time on the server.
If I make a base in a crowded area on my own, I plant a few hidden stashes in bushes, and keep my doors unlocked when I logout..
But that's only required when its really really crowded (I like to build on roads near monuments:P)
You could also make a few ladders, and build your house on a large builder. If you keep a cupboard (or a few), then others cant build ladders against it and can't get to your house. When you logout, you just destroy the ladders.
Same can be done without builders which is a little less but still reasonably effective, namely by building your foundation extremely high, and have a twig stairs to your frontdoor that you destroy later on..
It all comes down to strategy. It took me a week before I was able to make my first house survive (on a massively crowded russian server) Eventually I managed to do so by swimming to the edge of the world, I had to swim next to a rockwall for minutes to get there, and then I swam in the water and started building the foundations 4 levels deep, after each dive I had to go eat next to the campfire to survive..
