I think prioritizing those that support you is worth 1 person spending a 1% of their time to make sure the OFFICIAL servers are taken care of.
I'm SURE they could even get a trustworthy volunteer. Do the MODS on this forum take away from facepunch working on the new rust alpha? Are they not prioritizing because they are spending finite resources monitoring different forums rather than having 100% of their effort go to development? Maybe ask a few mods to help with servers as well?
I'm glad you guys understand what alpha means, because you are missing a lot of other points being made.
See but now we're diving into prioritizing different sections of the player base who all want different things but as a whole have supported Rust equally. If a small portion of players are aching for constant server maintenance but the player base in general wants the game to progress, who are the devs gonna side with? It's a messy situation to try and answer fairly, especially when people like the good ol OP have temper tantrums when their complaints aren't prioritized over other people's. I'm not saying the complaints aren't legitimate, I'm just saying it's a difficult thing to be fair about.
[editline]16th June 2014[/editline]
they could potentially hire someone (which costs money) or look for a volunteer (how can you guage how trustworthy they are, that's dangerous) or move a forum moderator to that job (not sure how things work for forum staff) but if they do that for a small portion who are all really passionate about the Official servers (yes they're the official servers, but again when there are thousand of others to choose from and the game is heavily unfinished, is it really that big of a priority?) , what happens when a small portion of the player base wants something else that the devs don't want to work on because they're already in the 7th circle of coding hell?
Learn from a real company FP and stop being so fucking rude to your players.
No matter how far you all have their dicks down your throat.
That isn't the player bases fault, it's theirs.
It's so sad such a good game is being ruined by a company that doesn't give a shit about it's player base.
Lurk more.
You waste your (time) doing these idiotic replies.
Like I'v said several hundreds of times not just on these forums but others.. find another server; you don't have to waste you "precious" time arguing over server(s) that you don't own. You could join any other server like a normal person, and continue to play.
You are still missing the point of the current debate entirely.
Sorry you lost your stuff, Lumpy. You'll enjoy rebuilding once you get over the initial shock. As others have said, its happened to all of us. I check every day to see if US Central 1 has come back up. The amount of stuff we lost when it disappeared was epic.
I agree its a little weird the devs don't tell us what is happening to the official servers, but I'd much rather they keep their nose to the grind stone and keep cranking out progress on the new code.
We all knew this build was not going to last forever. Wipes happen. Server closures happen.
Keep your chin up and soldier on. This is Rust.
Another person entirely missing the point of the debate and missed half of what I said.
Whats your point exactly? you are entitled to the official servers or something?
The best I can tell is his point is:
the Devs should be paying someone to maintain the servers and should be communicating their plans for the official servers to the players.
The reality is: If the Devs want to do that, they will. If they don't want to do that, they won't. No matter what they do, lots of people will complain.
Oh if that's his point I have to chuckle.
I can't remember the last time I saw any mods or admins on other official game servers. For example I know all the battlefield official servers don't have any sort of moderation. It's just your typical "official" server.
Regardless of what they do they will get complaints I completely agree with you Dionysus9.

again. no one said anything about admins or mods. They are dedicated, Official resources. I expect a company to manage, to some degree, any resource they provide to their users, especially if they want to slap the title Official on them. Some of them are/were labeled as test, some as dev, clearly indicating there is a rhyme, reason and purpose to the naming convention they chose to use for those resources.
Maybe... they're getting those servers ready for the experimental branch! huh? huh?
...One can only wish.:downs:

Oh I see you expect a company to manage their servers that you are "entitled" to. My mistake.

Your attitude is disgusting - but then again, most people on these forums are pretentious assholes.
You're all making valid points, in my opinion; yes, they don't have to look after the official servers but like the others are saying, if they call them official servers they should at least have the notion to keep them online. It would literally take them maybe two minutes to restart the server. I don't play the official servers and I never have, and probably never will - but I know there are a lot of people who do that are constantly let down by Facepunch's ethics and work conduct. They should at least check on them every 2-3 days. Like I said.. two minutes. That wouldn't hinder development at all. Hell, they could do it on their phone while they're on the shitter - just sayin'.
Don't get me wrong - I love Facepunch and Rust. This is a game I thoroughly enjoy and I am quite looking forward to the new version to be playable - I have also defended Facepunch many times using the "alpha" excuse, but I agree that it's kind of getting out of hand and the player-base (not even Facepunch) is hiding behind the alpha phase a little excessively.
A game being in alpha is no excuse for sloppy management; especially with the amount of funding they have received from this game.
You prove my point for me.
So tell me than.
Where does it say on
http://store.steampowered.com/app/252490/
Where does it say you are entitled to using official servers?
Are they forcing a gun down your throat to use their servers?
What's does $19.99 USD you spent give you exactly? Check the store page.
Does it give you exclusive rights of usage to those official servers? Nope!
Those official servers are up out of kindness from the developers. They don't have to be up.
So what exactly is your point? You're too cheap to rent your own server?

I agree it's sloppy, but for all we know they take those servers down, and use it for their own testing purposes. It wouldn't hurt if they announced that server X is moving to experimental in house only testing etc, but it wouldn't be Facepunch if you know what I mean.

Right because that's what all companies do when the release physical resources labeled Official to customers. It's just plain common sense. Why would they call them official if they were anything but? I would expect any company to maintain the resources that they provide to users, not ignore them.
feel free to have the last word, I'm starting to think that's all your trying to do at this point.
It's hard talking to a wall (person) that already had their mind (opinion) made up from the start.
Right because that's what all companies do when the release physical resources labeled Official to customers. It's just plain common sense. Why would they call them official if they were anything but?
Physical? We have no idea if they own the server(s), or they just rent them, and place a "Official" stamp on them. For all we know they have some cheap host they have a lease or contract with. I know there are some official dedicated hosts that offer servers for rust that have a bad track record of keeping servers up, or even restarting them.
I would expect any company to maintain the resources that they provide to users, not ignore them.
Clearly you haven't been around in this world for that much time. Nothing's perfect, and companies do avoid, and ignore their customers. I can give you plenty of examples if you really want them.

Don't know what to say about that.. It's if a jerk was talking to me.

Go to their live help and talk to them. They host East Coast 3, they will literally tell you it's Facepunch being a terrible company that just needs to press reset. Lewl.
Garry, what gives mate? :D
Sorry man, but for whatever the reason, they never seem to respond to these specific issues. back in Feb when the first non-pvp server went down I tried everything, FP support, tweeting Garry, tweeting FP, facebooking FP, posting here, posting on reddit etc.. I gave up after about 2 months. since then more servers are gone. a few made a brief reappearance then went down within a week again.
