Terrible lag after update on original rust and other issues

Fix the lag jesus christ.
[editline]17th June 2014[/editline]
Oh and I want to also tell you this experimental thing that downloaded onto my computer crashed my whole computer and now nothing will open. Thanks for that as well.
i'm not lagging yet. and i'm confidant this will be fixed once the devs figure out why it is happening. so please guys, give as much useful information as you can rather than whinging.

as for the update, i needed to opt into the experimental build in order for the files to be there to run. this presumably forced a reinstall, but i wouldn't be sure without opting out again to check.
as for clarity of product, im happy to say that on experimental branch there was heaps of new players, most of whom had no idea that it A) existed and B) was where all these updates are being applied. i think it will help long term making it as close to idiot proof as possible, but people are frustrated by the new bugs that occurred. that will pass once the bugs are squashed though:)

i doubt it. not one version of the experimental build has caused problems for my computer outside of rust and steam, and i'm yet to hear another claim like yours. odds are something else is crashing your computer, but if not, supply the forums with useful information about exactly what is happening and they might be able to do something about it.
It appears to be a problem with the update clients. After the last patch maybe an hour or so before this post, the lag started kicking in. The client will stagger into a halt and reduce to <2 fps on everyone's client if they have the updated client. Lag is not consistent and can last from a few seconds to a minute with varying intervals between each lag spike. Lag doesn't appear to regional on the map so the problem may not be a rendering issue (maybe?).
This is what's happening to me and some friends is there any fix???
Did they not test before updating?
Anyway I hope all these issues can be fixed
The FPS drop (JAM)
Very slow connecting to server speed
Not being able to throw supply signal
Every 10 minutes or so the game freezes, you get like 1 FPS or less, it lasts for about 20-30 seconds.
When it is dawn, there is a massive freeze, but other than that I've noticed that large buildings coming into view doesn't seem to lag things half as much any more. Playing on ubuntu 14.04.
Client freezes and lags horribly the entire pc during change to Night and change to Day. Throwing supply signals from your belt onto the ground non functional.
Anybody know a great way to make 24/7 day with no shifts from 1 cycle to the other, and still get an airdrop every hour?
The lag appers, when the night changes to day, then, 30 seconds the gpu is at 0% usage and i have 1 FPS
And the Supply Signals are broken, they dont even show up in the hand
This has just thrown an unnecessary spanner in the works for the old version which will create mayhem for a few days until the modders can release new versions
Welcome to every modding community ever after a big update. Big update = broken mods. This isn't something unique to Facepunch Studios products. Minecraft goes through it once every three months or so. The Rust Modding subforum's sticky explicitly states that modding is unsupported and if everything breaks because of an update the devs don't care.
Have they found a fix yet? Or is there a way to get an older version back?

All this update to the OLD version has done is cause major issues.
Please roll it back, leave it alone and just work on the new version.
We are all happy to wait for the new version and know you are working hard on it.

Garry or someone said that now the game is running on a newer Unity. Please, go back to the old one.
How are the issues supposed to be fixed if the first thing you do when it breaks is go back to the old version?
Did they not test before updating?
Wait, so you want them to alpha test their patches before they put them out there for the playerbase (that means you) to test them?
Does nobody here understand the point of Early Access? Do you realize that you're alpha testers?
If your first concern after an update is that your entertainment is being interfered with, you need to get the hell out of the alpha and come back to Rust six to nine months from now, when all of the major kinks have been worked out and it's got a stable and trusted foundation. You're just being a nuisance and helping no one by bitching about how Rust isn't any fun right now. The devs know this, that's why they're working so hard to build it.
Anyone else getting this lag? Anyone not getting this lag?
Terrible lag with a load of red writing in console and not able to use supply signals since update.
Well this is kind of sad, I dont want to follow 10 different twitter accounts, to learn how to get server back into list. Would have been nice to see it along with update, it was a nice waste of my evening trying to get server fixed, not to mention that all mods went to hell.
Also to all those claiming that you are alpha-testers and your time worth nothing, guess you have nothing better to do in life, but I do. Honestly, as a server owner who are actually keeping your player base up, it would have been nice just to see 1 line in update list "Fixing server names, non-alphabetical symbols no longer allowed"
any idea why it lags ? im assuming it the experimental version causing it im not sure the lag does seem to have settled down a lot though since i first done the update

The official dev blog explicitly details how the changelog has been moved to a Twitter account. One Twitter account is the changelog you are wishing you had been given notice.
Well, guess what, you were given notice. You didn't look at the official sources.
Any news about Changelog?
Horrible lag spikes!!! I play with a group of 10 people and we are all having this lag spike issue, resulting in a massive FPS loss, no matter which server we go on it happens... Please fix it Garry! Its very frustrating in the middle of a gunfight for this to happen, or when being chased by animals..
re interruption of gameplay I took the view, its the same for everyone, its in alpha, the new guns are nice.
I logged off, and slept well.
I thought there was something wrong with my 780 when my game started locking up, Good to know I'm not the only one. It stutters down to like 1-3 fps and then completely freezes for 30 seconds.
I don't think that Alpha allow Garry to mess up the stable game just for details while he have to work on the new version.
Now servers are fucked up, the communities are broke for a day, why? Is it to get people to the new experimental version?
and a mystery, why does such a simple update would cause such severe damage? i don't know what code are you dealing with Garry but you are surely going crazy.

I don't know who you think you are, but you are full of shit. If you are some random Forum user, stfu and let the devs speak for themself.
If you are part of the Facepunch team, well, my friend saw the facepunch logo when I wanted to show him rust and his first response was "wait, facepunch? too bad, they are all assholes." I didn't believe him then, but in this case I would.
There are three Sources to look at.
First and most important one: Steam.
People buy it on steam and they expect to find important notes relating to the game on Steam. there is no notice on steam that links to some Twitter changelog page.
Second one: Playrust.com
Frontpage: Dev blogs.
Aboutpage: https://twitter.com/playrust No changelogs
FAQ: only thing answered there is: CAN I HAZ MONEY???
If you think that people will search through six pages of dev blogs just to MAYBE find some link they DONT EVEN KNOW THAT EXISTS then you are stupid.
Third one: forum
Same thing, the only sticky Threads are one thread in which you treat your customers like garbage (We don't care about things you want to report us etc) and a "WE BANN YOU!!!11111oneoneeleven" thread. Yeah KKTHXBB
Oh, and if you actually say that you can't find a changelog and that you find this sad, fanboys like elixwhitetail will bash you for not knowing that there could be maybe somewhere on page 2314523 a small notice that there is a second twitter account that is nowhere mentioned aside from said little notice on page 2314523 and that you are to blame for not reading the note on page 2314523.
BTW:
Don't show servers with stupid and doubled up characters in their names - @garrynewman (old_rust/main)
So the definition for "Stupid and doubled up characters" is now everything besides letters and numbers by default? Yeah I smell some braindamage.
i completely agree Karon
i was playing on 2 servers full of 50+ players
Now just for a detail change (no server starting with special character in the list of servers), servers are empty, community is broke, and all our game is down, people don't understand why.
NOTHING ON STEAM
NOT ENOUGH ON PLAYRUST
Too much on twitter, nobody look at twitter
That's not because it is an alpha that Garry should do thing before cheking up everything ok
He got all the time he want to do his change, i hope he would do them properly.
Don't tell me there is no time
The game could still be in Alpha in a year.
[editline]18th June 2014[/editline]
i really think Garry fucked up with the new change of showing servers... There is nothing bad calling a server
[UK]
[FR]
[EU] ...
Wtf... now the whole server list is nonsense
Why does the dev are applying patch without a step back from the reality?
I had the same thing last night. Joined a server and it took at least 5 times longer to just load in. Then when it was about to become daylight my game just froze for about 30 seconds to a minute. I could hear the ambient sound and animals moving around, but i was unable to move. Then all of a sudden it's back and it was dawn. Can you please address this issue Garry? Thanks
I'll record my game play today and if it happens again I'll post a video on here.
elixwhitetail = TROLL
Just ignore the clown

Garry has been posting all the changes in the dev blogs every week and if you havent learned that then you have bigger issues and probably shouldnt be playing the alpha

It's obvious that the update had some bad coding in it resulting in random lag spikes that lasts for about 1-2 minutes. Let's just hope for a Hotfix soon.
Rust is the only game to have such problem after every update
Devs don't check their update before applying to the FUCKING MILLION PLAYERS?
Rust is the only game to have such problem after every update

The million players who shouldn't be complaining about this after it has already been reported.
Please stop whining and accept that the game isn't finished yet.
You didn't pay to play Rust before it is released.
You paid to help the development of Rust and as a bonus you can have a chance to play a buggy mess that will eventually be rust.

Garry posts his new models and what not in his devblogs. Before the experimental addition to the Live Launcher I didn't even know that they abandoned the game and cash the money to do a revamp.
I bought Rust 3 months ago and all I saw/see in the Dev blogs are some new models which are never implemented in the game I bought, downloaded and play. They advertise the old game, so why should I know that they are scamming people by advertising something they are no longer developing? And then, all of a sudden after 3 Months with just a few blogs about how they made a new spear animation or a new skybox I am told that there is a experimental version that they update on a regular basis.
And if you think that a devblog is a changelog, please go see a doctor.
and the link you postet is only in the most recent Dev blog and even it this one it is masked behind "get live updates as they are committed." and not like "See our Twitter account for changes" or something like that.
no, that's the second place to look. go to playrust.com for the devblog each week or important updates, on the very first page. that said, steam discussion boards are about as active as the forums, so you should be able to find some details there with some searching
For me, the place where I buy something that has a built in community function is the first place to look, but I think that is irrelevant in the end if it is #1 or #2.
Dev blogs. that's exactly where you need to look, and the comments about the branch update are right there at the top
there is not one single changelog in the dev blogs. They are, as the name says, blogs about their progression and what they do at the moment, and not a list of things that got updated in patch 0.3.x or so. Most blogs I've skimmed through are like
"I've been working on model X, while developer Y has finished the texture of model Z"
use the search function. and the forum is moderated, but you are looking for threads started by garry for official information. the sticky threads are a one time read just to clarify the mods expectations of your behaviour, nothing worth looking at in there
I don't even know which thread is started by who, how to see who started it, and I don't care for it. This game is a Alpha in Early Access. the game is actively developed. Why should I need to search a forum for a possible hint to the changelogs if the changelogs are the second most important information the customer could get?
#4: there is a website hosted by one of the forum users that lists literally every changelog in chronological order. i'l try and find it, and post later
Thank you, that would be very nice of you.

this is a stupid, angry comment and should probably be ignored, but I'll address it. the dev's can make any damn decision they like, and if they want to simplify server names to stop people spamming symbols to move the server up the list, that's their choice, regardless of the side effects
I think you misunderstand what I wanted to say. Of course it's their thing what filters they apply, it's just that this comment, posted as part of a changelog, is not, by any definition of the word, a changelog. There is no useful information in "stupid characters are not allowed anymore". "Stupid" is not defined in chosing a server name and therefore it could mean literally anything.
Just compare what he wrote with what he could've written:
"Don't show servers with stupid and doubled up characters in their names"
vs
"Only Servers that begin with latin Letters will be listed in the games server list"
Garry posts his new models and what not in his devblogs. Before the experimental addition to the Live Launcher I didn't even know that they abandoned the game and cash the money to do a revamp.
I hate to break it to you but the devblogs are the changelogs. if you would actually read the devblogs you would see
A reminder, everything we commit is live tweeted to this twitter account. Then those commits are automatically built by our build servers and made live instantly on the experimental branch on Steam. Everything we’re posting about here is available right now on Steam.
He even post the twitter account for you again, which was posted in a couple devblogs. He even states that the changes are now live in the experimental branch of steam.
and the steam link i posted is found when you click view update history for rust
just because they dont say
- Fixed Bug X
- Added Y
doesnt make it not a change log. Garry actually gives you more details on what has changed by showing you pictures and videos and describing what is going on. The devblog is a mix of change logs and what is also being worked on behind the scenes.
We try to be nice but if people would just take 5 mins of their time they can figure all this stuff out on their own.
