A little base I'm thinking about building :)
Wow - how much wood did it say you'll need?
Very nice work. I was thinking of how useful something like this would be when I was previously doing stuff like this with pen and paper.
I cannot manage to rotate doorways ect though. I am right clicking and nothing changes. It is the wrong way by default just for reference.

Yeah I've just been looking into this - slightly frustrating but I've found the route of the problem. Need to rework some of the code which I'll do tonight.
Moving this to the correct forum :)
Hi All,
So firstly, a bit about me. I'm a professional web developer working in Newcastle upon Tyne (uk). I work primarily with JavaScript so decided to set up a project to work on in my spare time.
So what is it?
BaseBuilder is a tool designed to help avid Rust players conceptualise a base design they have in their head. Its in its early days of course and I have a large set of requirements still to meet. I will share each development goal in a later post.
Where is it?
It's current hosted here - http://jvickers.co.uk/basebuilder - please take a look and see what you think of the progress so far. It's best to view in chrome at the moment, it does work in firefox but not as smoothly.
How can you help?
I have set up a bug tracking account at: https://basebuilder.fogbugz.com/ so if any of you wish to aid in the development of this tool please do. Simply open the link - click Enter a New Case under the TASKS heading and fill in the detail of your bug - the more detail the better :)
I'll be hard at work over this coming weekend finalising the development approach and refactoring some of the current behind the scenes logic.
Hope you like the progress so far and again - any bugs you wish to add will be greatly appreciated.

Awesome! I've added the link to the web program and this post in my Rust Guide. This is great! Good job!

Thank you very much :)
Great job man! Really useful to see how much wood I need for extending my base rather than using pen and paper to add em all up! Thanks a lot!
Am i the only one to be so dumb ? i use right click and my wall does not rotate ... i dont understand ? is there any other shortcut ? do i miss an update of a software ?

Sry i missed some information ! THanks ^^'
iGeordie, is there anything else your looking forward to do with this? Are you going to add doors (wood or metal) to calculate wood / metal needed? I'm assuming your still working on windows. Will you do window bars also?
Will there be a metal base version? Just curious on the future of your great tool.
Sorry guys I'm busy reworking some of the rotation logic. The current version has some bugs admittedly - i'll send an update when fixed.
Ok, so I've done quite a bit with regards to the rotation logic update as follows...
Update 0.6 (18-03-2014)
Bug Fix - Rotation issues are hopefully put to bed! hurray!
Huge apologies for the issues with rotation today. I've altered rotation to use the space bar instead of right click - this seperates the camera control with functional control. I'll keep testing the implementation for the next hour or 2 - I don't want to go to bed until I know its perfect.
This is epic, very well done; thank you!
A few more requests to slap on your "to do" list:
1) Allow builds to be saved/loaded (probably locally so you don't have to dedicate a hard drive [or 10] to it).
2) Allow us to "test raid" with C4, so we can figure out the C4-cost to gain entry to various rooms and/or room-combinations (have the tool keep a tally of C4 used).
Really fantastic work, thanks a million.
[editline]18th March 2014[/editline]
3) allow foundations to be placed without having to touch an existing foundation.
This is an awesome tool and cant wait to see it as an app.
Can you make it so that you can have a button or something that changes it from wood to metal and calculate the resources like it does with wood? Something for when you finish up other more important stuff :D
Also love the idea of being able to test raid it from Dionysus9. Perhaps have it so it works out the easiest route through doors and walls to get to a pre determined loot room.
Keep up the good work!!!
Really useful tool, thank you very much :) just plugged in my ultimate bunker design -
5820 planks ><

Glad to hear people are finding it useful :)
Progress Update
I'm currently working on a few different aspects in the following order. Known bugs will be dealt with as they come
Windows and Ramps
Doors - Wood and Metal
Deletion - this has been on going for a few days
Metal Textures and associated UI updates
A filter to cycle through each level of your building - allowing you to focus your efforts on a particular floor without affecting the others. Floors out of focus will reduce to almost 0 opacity
Window bars
New textures for existing wooden structures
Thanks,
Jonathan
wow, nice tool man

Update 0.7 (23-03-2014)
A first pass at the ramps have been added - I know they're kind of floating at the moment but at least you can use them. Please let me know if the implmentation doesnt match that of Rust - It's not often I use them in game.
Sharing functionality (also doubles as load/save) coming soon!
great thanks
iGeordie,
Since discovering your tool, my productivity at work has slumped, and I'm holding you strictly responsible for my paycheck being smaller than prior to my discovery of your program. In addition, my girlfriend will not be pleased with the hours I'll be spending collecting digital wood.I'll be expecting a check in the mail to compensate my losses.
I have an empty white screen when I click on the link. I use a Mac & Safari
I have an empty white screen when I click on the link. I use a Mac & Safari
I'm going to add some browser support messages - this will let you know if your current browser is unsupported and point you in the direction of one that is.
[editline]24th March 2014[/editline]
So everyone is aware - I have registered www.basebuilder.co.uk which will go live with version 1 of the framework :)

haha I'm really sorry about that :p
you're getting really Tight on the wording on the left again. You might have to move that TOP box of "view log" "update bug" to the right side or decrease your font size again.

I have a UI redesign in the pipeline so hopefully that will clear it up
also JUST to let ya know.. Ramps WILL let you place more then one down on top of each other to get corners in the game.. Which your's does NOT let you do. (but i think it's just a max of 2 in game not 3+)
