Hello all , i know .. i'm a noob :) . But i have a little question for you . If you are griefing somebody you will get banned on the server ? ( If yes just that server or all ? )
Thanks :)
You will not be VAC or cheatpunch banned, that's for sure.
The server admin could ban you but unless the griefing is constant and extreme I don't see why they would.
Frankly I think an occasional grief is a perfectly viable strategy. (I don't like neighbors.)

Ok , thank you :)
to grief, therefor to make someone elses game experience terrible should be vac bannable
It's different on a server by server basis. Some allow it, some don't. Worst case scenario, you get banned from the 1 specific server you did it on.
to grief, therefor to make someone elses game experience terrible should be vac bannable
That would be incredibly stupid. Because whether you're guilty of griefing or not is up to the personal interpretation of individual server's admins, who's opinions may differ from server to server. And because what is in control of you getting a VAC ban is, rather than a simple yes/no based on whether you've altered game files, is some random guy who opened a server for a game who may or may not have terrible judgement, a personal grudge against you, or is just an abusive asshole.
Maybe they should make posting idiotic suggestions on the internet VAC bannable.

Rust is not the game for you then. This is not a carebear game.
Sievers808 has no authority whatsoever on this matter, Seawolfy, the admin on the server has the authority.

What? What did I claim to have authority over? WTF are you talking about?
I just told him that he wouldn't be VAC or cheatpunch banned... which is 100% true.
Quit flaming me for absolutely nothing.

That point was already made by the person you are denouncing.

Just sayin.

Also, no one in this thread, including Oliver3 and myself, has any authority whatsoever on this matter.

Who claimed you had authority on the server? not me, I just stated that you didnt. And you don't.
Be clear to the poster he is obviously new to the game, he asked a question and you gave rules according to you not the server admin. The server admin makes the rules not you Sievers808 just be clear to the poster and dont confuse the issue.

It was clear, then you showed up.
It was as clear as mud

Are words disabled on your browser?
"Frankly I think an occasional grief is a perfectly viable"

Use your brain please, co-operate with the human race.

Having an opinion is not a declaration of authority.
Continuing this derail is stupid though. I feel bad for putting my foot in this shit.
now your just flaming me, and your all a closed knit community so before I get banned from posting again, I say sorry Sievers808, sorry Tirpider, you are totally right I am sorry for ever crossing you or disagreeing with your ideals as you are obviously much more intelligent than me or my friends, and thank you for teaching me a forum lesson in discussion.

I feel like I should apologize too. I kneejerk posted about something I felt was wrong when it really was just a pedantic miscommunication. My intent was malicious and I should really learn to mind my own business.
Sorry for the headache, Oli.
/serious
Don't confuse me with part of this community though, I just showed up and started shitposting one day just like you. I'm getting better though... not much, but better.

I just go to Reddit, now, if I have a Rust question. Any time I asked a question here I got this, "OMG, r u stoopud!?!" vibe in every response I got.
The DayZ forums are somehow more civil whicn is WEIRD since everyone is so hostile in game.... especially me.

I knew something was wrong with you.
You are exactly like those cheaters: "a bit of cheat, cant' hurt" but you are the "a bit of grief can't hurt"
Yes it does.
Griefers are a plague to rust, and YOU sir, are part of the problem. On my server, your ban would have been instant.

I don't think it's that bad in some cases. What if you have a pesky neighbor nearby and you aren't fond of company? Make them move out, make them find a new place to call home.
Granted, people who go around to every single building and do this just to be asshole are assholes, but there is strategy behind ruining someone's base.
Don't be butthurt because of your C4 removal thread, I know you aren't a fan of me right now but specifically calling out my posts like this isn't going to help.

Everyone is the neighbor of someone.
If all the 'neighbors' were doing like you, then Rust would be a griefing fest.
It would be awesome that you find that neuron to understand that simple fact :-D
When I first embarked upon the world that is RUST, I had several server owners asking me what I thought was a good way to proceed with the various behavioral anomalies that this game encourages and my only real thought on this matter was this: if you can't enforce it then it shouldn't be a rule. As a server owner myself now, I still hold fast to this principle. I can't stop people griefing. They will wait until my admins and I are offline and then they WILL grief. What I can do is install a server mod that enables players to remove unwanted building pieces added to their foundation. The funny thing is, griefing still happens regularly in my server only now it is but a simple task to undo it. People find it amusing I guess.
but the principle I stick to. If I can't enforce it? then it is up to the players. Some things I might be able to enforce with a couple of sharp deputies. Other things I might not be able to enforce even with 50 Kevlar warriors. Griefing is one of those things.

I like that.
Very zen.

I don't think you should run a server, so do you allow all cheats as you cant possibly stop every single cheat?
"If you cant enforce it then it shouldn't be a rule" is stupid. You can enforce it by banning people, you wont stop it totally, but then in real life you cant stop criminal activities totally, there will always be crime but you can enforce laws to make the crime less.

Like I said, I have a removal tool plugin installed that negates the effect entirely. Your building is not rendered unusable, as you may remove the unwanted pieces by hitting them twice with a pick axe. It turns what was a harmful crime into a minor annoyance. Do you think I should do any more than this? Do you think I should be banning people for using the functions of the game as enabled by the code as it is written?
Enforcing does not mean eradicating it entirely. Enforcing means expending energy to prevent or undo infringements upon a given rule. Since I am not equipped with the tools to know 'whose' staircase/pillar etc. is whose, how am I meant to retrospectively punish players for their anti-social conduct unless I am omnipresent enough to have witnessed it at the time?
Exploits that are within the function of the code as it is written are not my duty.
Try hacking and see where that gets you on my server ;)
Depends on the server admin

I have to agree with 'an occasional grief is a perfectly viable strategy'. It's a survival game, not a friendship game. If I find a neighbor who I think is depleting the resources nearby, he's gonna get raided or griefed. It just depends on whether I have C4 or not. :D
