People keep ignoring what garry said obviously. I watched people complain on here for weeks over and over again about "There are too few servers" and my fave "really need more servers". Quite honestly, we aren't here for that at all. The way i see it, he is allowing us to play this awesome game as he makes it and maybe give some feedback about GLITCHES and BUGS. I get that ideas on "in-game" items is useful, but throwing a forum tantrum because he gave us what we want is kinda stupid, lol. The fact that a tester even made this post makes me sad, lol.
I really have to agree with garry on this one. I don't see how "too many servers" is ever a problem. If there ever were too many servers, the ones that don't have so many players would die out from lack of interest, and the number of servers would decrease. If most of the players wanted to play on high pop servers, they'd all join the highest pop server and it would keep growing. That isn't happening so clearly that's not what the majority wants. What I think is happening is a few people here want to join servers with a high population, but the general playerbase is happy with a smaller amount of players, so high population isn't happening. The suggestion to force crowded servers against the obvious wishes of the majority is just ridiculous.
i think great solution is like in Wurm Online server style. There is few servers 5-10 or more. And server are a indepemndent island connected by sea. Player can sail to each server but i take time.
I think it will allow to migrate between servers and be realy immersive.
if u guys don't want admins running around with god mod why not then join rust original servers? that's what I do
Too many servers are ruining the feeling I find. Of course we need more players but the auctions only sell x amount a day(idk how much) I used to love the feeling back In the day, hundreds of people on at once a few major clans running around at once and LOTS of PVP, LOTS of KOS. <--- that shit ain't bad, KoS and PVP is what's best of Rust. When you start you you will always get kos'd whenever you get settle you KOS others. From playing alone this weekend i ran into 1 naked person running and a guy in leather running from 4 zombies in 30 minutes of playing. I used to step out of my house and see torches and flares shining a minute away and when I go check it out there was a few people there, I remember the PVP aspect with a lot of players around
The solutions I find are reasonable, cut the amount of servers OR increase the amount of keys sold each day
It's simple supply and demand. Servers taht are not filled will not be active for long. As more players flood the game, the servers will populate and a new equilibrium will be reached. For now, it's free game...and the server with the best ruleset/setting wins the attention of players.
Sometimes me and my friends run around on the servers with 50+ people on and still can't find anyone but naked people for an hour, I preferred it so much when it used to be 125 man servers
The amount of players was never the problem in my eyes with the previous servers, it was the lack of resource gathering areas on the map. Its a huge map but everybody was forced into a tiny area because that was the only place that had food and rocks spawn and it was generally by a rad zone. People would build their towns in the few resource spawn areas and kos anyone coming near so naked Jay would have to brave kevlar wearing, m4 toting guys just to get his first chunk of meat and try to cook it. Place resource areas on the entire map and then naked jay has a chance to live even if there are 300-500 people on the map, its that huge. I think at one time it was planned you could move your character between servers with the stuff on his back but that was killed by sleepers.
My suggestion is:
1. spread the resource areas all over and kill all the extra servers.
Or
2.keep renting the servers for the extra revenue but populate the map with resource areas. Keep rad zones where they are so people can fight over better equipment and plans. BUT have official servers clearly marked.
We are supposed to be alpha testers, give us a whole island to test.
Here's the current issue as I see it:
Getting from new spawn to most items researched is pretty easy and fast on low population servers. There are lots of servers to choose from. A lot of folks would for the most part prefer to grind and build unmolested, so when they do get raided, they will just go find a new server to start. There is very little server 'affinity' or 'loyalty'.
This isn't universal by any means, just a trend I think I see. Not sure what could or should be done about it. I suspect in a little over a month when month #2 of the server rentals comes due, a lot of folks will end the experiment so hopefully we will see a drop in servers, but I don't know what the new server startup rate is. At some point you'd think all the folks who thought it'd be cool to run a server but have almost no one playing will drop off.

I was thinking the same thing... it hasn't been too long since they are up... id say a lot are halfway through their first month which on a lot of sites I checked is actually a discounted rate.. pretty soon here we should see a big drop.. I don't even know who the admin is on my server... which worries me because there isn't many people on at a given time... I feel this server will soon come to an end.
Problems I see with servers atm are:
- Low population servers: I miss the times with 60-120 peak players on a same server. I understand some people rather farm the whole day and just build a giant house, but this is a PVP game, you need to fight people while you farm/kill zombies/raid houses... It's quite boring when you go out to hunt and just find 1 or 2 nakeds in 1 hour.
- Possible admin abuse: Most of the times you don't know but, I don't trust other people's judgement to run a server and in some servers there will be admins playing and spawning items for them and their friends. I'd rather play on official servers with no admins. I know admins can be helpful to ban hackers though.
- Poor performance servers: Maybe some of you haven't notice yet but there are hitreg issues with some servers. You know this when you are shooting at someone and see blood but no hitmark, that means you did hit him but because of server performance/lag or whatever, the server didn't register it and the other player gets no damage.
These are the reasons why I'd rather play on an official server but it seems they have shut down UK official server and Playrust.eu servers are almost empty.
