the latest news post says that they may NOT remove zombies.
That's not how I read it at all. What did I miss? Edit: just saw your response above. I read that to mean that they WILL be removed, but it's not decided if something will take their place.

But they're not sure if they should replace them with anything.
We are on an fucking island and it doesnt mean that the outside world is so primitive also. It is like the truman show we fight each other while the outside world is laughting and bringing us airdrops and sending helicopters to kill us.

muaahaha , fight my little pawns ... fight and DIE!
1. No players will be flying it (....yet) 2. Hide

Oh don't worry, it'll have rocket pods to take care of your structure :D

You don't know what the rules of engagement for the helicopter will be, it's not going to be a randomly spawning base destroyer. It will however under some situations have the ability to engage structures. If you want to talk about a horrible idea, it would be horrible if you could piss it off and then just sit behind 3 inches of steel and magically be protected forever

I've said enough :o
There's no point in debating its mechanics when we don't know what they are.
Sounds a bit like the Hunger Games...
I swear i had it not in my mind.
The far northeast corner... I don't think I've been there. Time for an adventure!
Yeah - the tallest mountain in the game. Kind of a PITA to get to the top, but once you're up there, near the top (along one of the crossovers, not the absolute top) along the side, there's something very intriguing. Really makes you wonder. Crowbar?
On topic: I'm going to sit down and wait for them to be placed in and see what thy do before placing judgment. To the zombie chatter: this is the latest talk,"We're not going to remove zombies, we're going to replace them. MaxOfS2D"
This type of equipment (an operational helicopter) doesn't seem to fit with the reduced tech theme of the recent gun types and so on. I'm not personally thrilled at having to run from helicopters with rocket pods and fully automatic machine guns.
i think its only going to use its rockets if you try and hide in a house, unless ity catches you in the open you can avoide its side mounted mgs by hideing behind trees or large rocks
I think if you bring the chopper down, then you should be able to gather low quality metal from it by hitting it with a hatchet/pickaxe. You would get like 100.
If we can take it down, I hope it's only by using a crude ballista. Less modern, more caveman!
I've been reading all your posts and speculations on what this might be, but I am surprised no one has yet thought of this. I believe this Helicopter will be a random event yes but it will periodically land in some zones (Maybe signaled by a smoke grenade?) and will be flown by a NPC Pilot but players would be to ride in the back and control the Machine Guns ( and perhaps the rocket pod). Evidence to this has been pointed out by some people already like why else would they add extra texture on the inside of the helicopter. Proof:
A fucking chopper gunner seriously
All I see is complaining. They're bringing in the helicopter first as an NPC. Bringing in a helicopter opens a tons of doors for the development team to work on. I see great things coming from the helicopter. I also heard it will eventually later down the road become usable like in DayZ, Just a rumor though.
After looking at the last screen [t]http://imageshack.com/a/img30/9585/kdct.jpg[/t] The tail rottor looks really weird. The Rust Heli looks like a mix between the Huey, a supercobra and a bell 412 I think about the design of the tailrotor , the blades and node size just don't fit together, the blades looks really inefficicient ( looks parralell to heli axis, which make it technically useless ) . Nobody care about this technical stuff, but I just wanted to say that imo it kinda ruin the whole model, that, beside that, is really well made and looks very cool. Here are some pics of tailrotors, to compare [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/US_Navy_070820-N-9860Y-028_Lt._Cmdr._Nelson_Craig_performs_pre-flight_checks_on_the_tail_rotor_of_a_MH-60S_Seahawk_helicopter_assigned_to_Naval_Air_Station_Whidbey_Island_Search_and_Rescue_(SAR).jpg[/t] [t]http://www.blueskyrotor.com/performance/illustrations/Bell__Helicopter/Super__Cobra-AH_1-Z/tail_rotor.jpg[/t] That's not really important-they'll be spinning most of the time-but I still wanted to share some suggestion. Keep up the good work !
A fucking chopper gunner seriously
Yeah other then that I really don't know what else they would even bother making the inside look really nice if it was to be flown solely by NPC's. And I remember playing a game which used the same concept of having a non-controllable helicopter which only lets players control the side guns, making them easy to shoot out of with m4's,bolt actions, bows, etc... I think it was called Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.
i hope players never are able to fly it... Just means they would crash it into structures, shoot rockets at it, or the obvious... go around killing all the new players. I mean if you are going to allow players to fly it, personally i would like Anti Air Counter Measures like a rocket pod sitting on my roof to blow it out of the sky, just sayin.
´Does somebody know, wenn it is getting released?
Dose anyone know what it does?
From what i've heard is you will find parts of it in airdrop crates then you can build one and kill people with the m259's on doors. That or they will use it as a alternative to the plane airdrop.

I made a post about this a while back and helk kind of beat around the bush on what it's purpose is, here is the link for those interested.
Stop pretending like you know the storyline of the game. Facepunch knows what they're doing.
Well, it is pretty weird.
Stop pretending like you know the storyline of the game. Facepunch knows what they're doing.
Actually... they really don't. They say as much in the description of Rust. But presumably they'll eventually figure out what they want to do with Rust, probably right around the time the first beta releases. ;-)
Maybe it might only target heavily armed players, there for it will only target raiders at night, greatly reducing the raging across the board. Maybe it could be attracted to gun shots? That would be awesome!

the airdrops are bait....Don't go for the airdrops!
This will just make more people rage at the game....
rust is a Rage simulator deal with it
Could be neat as an AI-controlled gameplay mechanic. Some sort of man-hunt game mode/event or punishment for being too dastardly or something. I'd like to see a hint of plot in the game. A hunger-games-style framing device could be very interesting, would validate the supply drops and give more of a social media element (voting for certain players, spectators can fly little drone cameras around, etc)
