Yeah - the tallest mountain in the game. Kind of a PITA to get to the top, but once you're up there, near the top (along one of the crossovers, not the absolute top) along the side, there's something very intriguing.
Really makes you wonder. Crowbar?
Like... the mountain that is right at the northern edge of pretty much every player-made map? Because that's more the middle of the map, and I climb over it all the time.
It may look as if they have intentions of having outside forces against the players which I will think it would be a great way to bring players together. Of course if they plan to do so the A.I. needs to be that much greater or people will continue to fight each other (which in reality it will always be, but this may bring it to a minimal standard).
Maybe this helicopter coud reduce KOS? It hunts for the "Bad" players or "Bandits" and kills Them? :D i woud Like it if it hunts down "Bandits" ^^

Not too likely. Garry has said that he doesn't like the idea of flagging people as unfriendly.
There's a lot of building that's impressed us. There's a lot of rival gangs stuff... that actually causes a lot of problems for us, because they get too powerful and consume all the resources on the map. We need to look at ways to balancing that.
This could be solved if the helicopter indiscriminately targeted well-equipped players, as I suggested earlier.
If there is a door-mounted LMG, that means there must be someone to operate said LMG, so perhaps you could kill the gunner and the chopper would either have a spare gunner, or it would have to retreat to a base somewhere to pick up another one. That base also doesn't have to be on the island itself, it could be on another island, or be waterborne. But either way, during the moments when the chopper could not use the LMG, that would give players the opportunity to do some real damage, or to flee.
Then again, there are those rocket pods attached to the sides, though I've heard those are for destroying structures. Perhaps there are multiple choppers? Some could have machine guns, some have rockets, some have both, and some have none (transport only).

that would be awesome!

I'm confused as to how something targets well equipped players.. indiscriminately.
I'm confused as to how something targets well equipped players.. indiscriminately.
Logic. DONT USE IT!
you should need like 4000 high quality metal, 2000 leather, and 10000 high grade fuel then you should be able to make it and fly it yourself
So it isn't player controlled?

I'd prefer only being able to make a really crappy gyrocopter that is prone to breaking, plummeting you to your untimely death.
So it isn't player controlled?
So far they've only mentioned it being AI controlled.
So far they've only mentioned it being AI controlled.
Ahhh, I thought it was player controlled.. sounds a lot more interesting that its only AI controlled now though..
It's going to be a ROLFCOPTER, except we'll be rolling on the floor dying.
I'm confused as to how something targets well equipped players.. indiscriminately.
What I mean is it doesn't care how many naked guys you've killed, it'll shoot you if you're well equipped
Well, it is pretty weird. "We know that you're stranded, here's some airdrops to help you in your dire situation." "They got the supplies we dropped them! Send in the attack helicopters to lay waste!
Well, it isn't if you consider that the helicopters might not belong to the same group that manages the airdrops.

Seems highly unlikely but if this were true then I would like to see some air to air combat happening in the sky now and then. Just for visual sexiness.
My suggestion: keep a kill count, and the helicopter spawns and hunts down the people with the most kills. Exploitable by trolling (forcing someone to kill you over and over, etc.) but what isn't a troll in this game?
A good idea is the helicopter could be shot down with some new crafted rusty RPG launcher, or maybe you could just shoot it down with the regular guns in the game by hitting the pilot or anything that could possibly make the heli crash where you could loot it for weapons, ammo, and any other good items but it will be hard to do that with the people on the heli shooting at you so it's not that easy.

Why would there be any?
Say for instance, the area underwent some calamity that really rendered it both unlivable and uncontrollable. The land belongs to government A. While they recognize that people may choose to live i the area against their wishes, they do not desire them to posses arms and other means which they might pose a threat to re-establishing control once scientists deem that it is safe to begin re-inhabiting the area. They take military action against targets which they deem might affect the stability of the region negatively. Perhaps they want utter anarchy. At least it would mean a very unorganized insurgency, if any. But perhaps they also might want the right thing, leaving peaceful or prospering communities which might form the building blocks of future towns and villages to prosper. To a person on the ground, there is little to tell them apart however.
Now nation B has never been that big a fan of nation A, and they actually would enjoy the area progressing towards declaring independence, or at least a severe weakening of power on the region. By dropping in "humanitarian" supplies, they claim they are just doing their part to reduce suffering and help rebuild, as many of the current infrastructure in the region was the hardest by the calamity. Nation A knows the actually reason, and what is really the purpose behind the drops, but are technically power to stop it. Backed by the international community, nation B must be allowed to continue their relief efforts, along with the efforts of other, more genuine countries.
Funny thing is it doesn't matter what the reasons are. To someone on the ground, you will take advantage of whatever means you have to survive. You don't care about politics or the political means.
I actually think that it would be better left without a story to be honest.

Are you kidding me that's awesome

A home made panzerfause would be much easyer to make as it used black powder to fire the projectile.
What is up with all you weirdo's and wanting NPC AI to fight? This is a online game, lets fight other people and not dumb AI that can only do as much as it is scripted to.

We're at a point where AI can be pretty "smart."
From what I've heard about this thing, that it flies around and randomly kills people, it sounds like a horrible idea.
People are dying left and right to players as it is, why do we need an AI helicopter to do it also? What's the benefit of this? Is it's sole purpose to frustrate players?
Well for the people who's only objective is just raid and kill everyone on sight, this helicopter should go against them to balance it a little more (who kill and steal more, gets more heli attacks :) ).
And it really needs something like "Heroes" and "Bandits" like Day-Z.
Keep Cool
I honestly believe the addition of a patrol helicopter is a great idea. My suggestion is that they should operate at night. This would definitely help those under siege during the night as the game does not provide enough means for someone to defend their home.
umm just because the model is done, doesn't mean the controllers, AI, or engine is done. you guys will be waiting a long time for this.
i think most of u think too much of it lol, its probably just a once a hour event that lets it patrol the roads and shoots anyone in sight and/or shoots those who shoot at the heli. Cars blow up too when shot at so i assume so does the helicopter and will crash and lootable
Spot on, there is absolutely no NPC threat right now.
Ever heard of zombies, bears wolves?
Well, they aren't that important...
BUT THEY ARE, Npc's...
