• Is C4 too easy to obtain? Does your server do anything about it?

I removed C4 and Explosives from airdrops. I removed C4 from ALL loot tables so it is craft only. I added Explosives to the Zombie loot list with a 1% chance of dropping 1 Explosive. I've had 0 complaints so far. [US Dallas]InstaCraft/PvP/NoSleep Here is a link to our server thread if you're interested. =) http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1341299
Why don't we agree on a tag for servers that remove C4 from the loot tables, like "[NoC4drop]" or something? On our server, we stripped it from all drops. Blueprints are out there, though, so the only way to get C4 is to either steal it from other players or build it yourself. This means it's still in play, but gone are the days of picking up two dozen charges from random looting in a two-hour period.
tags would be nice, a lack of information is why i have been hesitant to join servers with modded content. I usually have to spend 10 minutes finding a thread for the server , seeing if i like the changes , and then trying it out. it is painful. all i want is less to almost no m4 and c4 , if i can find a server like that im sold. i am done dicking around shitty vanilla servers .
I am attempting to deal with these issues in the game by creating my own server. It's going pretty well too for only being four days old. If your interested here is the post for it, I wouldn't mind a bump :D https://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1342844 Heres the post
There are modded servers with non-standard loot lists to help control the dissemination of "OP" things such as military-grade guns and things like C4 and explosives etc etc.
Or do the exact opposite of such..
Okay - we are now using the tag [LowC4] on our servers to advertise that C4 is research- and craft-only. I propose we make this an unofficial community standard: [LowC4] = No C4 drops (find only by research / crafting or looting) [MaxC4] = C4 is easy to get (higher spawn quantity or frequency)
This is true but it is so easy to get 200 metal fragments then so hard to get 2 c4 ? not proportional at all by making it non craftable this would be like i could easy get a base with around 4 doors to loot room in a day the way you talk about it you would struggle getting 1 c4 in a day of work ? how would this be fair you could never raid enemys ?
I've removed airdrops. It greatly reduces C4 in the game and makes people earn their keep.

But removing the charges themselves from the airdrops greatly diminishes the base-smashing that happens. There are still explosive and explosive charge blueprints being dropped, but all the explosives / explosive charges have been replaced with raw and cooked chicken. :) Now you'll need to work a little bit if you want to go base-smashing. On the other hand, if you want to have a base that stands a chance of surviving, you no longer need to make it 978423589789534 layers deep.

It's one of the more significant changes a server can make, hopefully people would at least list it somehow in the title.
(surprisingly) I agree, despite the rudeness lol. I mean, if you want to mod your server then go for it (that's your prerogative), but the problem with that is then you aren't really testing the game the way the devs need it to be tested. There's a reason guns and c4 are so common, and it's not going to stay that way forever. Quite frankly, it's because we're still in early alpha. That's just how it is. :/
I disagree despite the friendly way you expressed your opinion.. ;) I think that the fact a certain percentage of the population is trying to reduce C4s use is as much a use to the devs (or more) than what information they are gathering with c4 being as abundant as it is now. Garry strikes me as the anthropological type and I'm guessing he is capable of learning as much about his game from observing the tools his community makes for themselves (and their motivations for doing so) as he would from simply watching them use the tools he's provided for them with the game as it is now.. even in it's Alpha state.

For the sake of debate though, couldn't one assume that there are things that are related to C4 that need testing that aren't strictly related to balance? For example, two or three patches ago they changed how C4 does damage to the objects around it, there could be more things like this that need heavy testing and development, hence the common-ness (is that a word? commonality? lol) of C4.
I have to agree on not making c4 as frequent but removing it and making endgame material i disagree with
Our Server also... very Rar M4, ActionBolt, KevlarArmor and C4 + this stuff isnt Craftable because we disabled the ResearchKit This is our Server if someone is interested how it looks like ;) http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1345918

That seems like a horrible, horrible idea. So you can't research medkits? Or ammo? Or armor?? Bad call, imo.
I think they should get rid of C4. We should just have sticks of dynamite. If you are jolted there would be a chance that it would go off. If you run you have a chance it would go off. If you are carrying dynamite and you are too close to another explosion yours will go off. Keep the amount need to blow up a door at 200. You should need to make fuses or another type of timing device. With this we could add triggers for traps. This is to help defend our bases.

I haven't tested it personally but I don't think shaking a stick of dynamite would set it off. I believe you are thinking of nitroglycerin. EDIT: You edited your post and added traps. I totally agree with traps and I believe they are planned, somewhat.

[editline]9th January 2014[/editline] I'm trying to come up with ideas to make blowing up others bases less desirable or more costly.
You disabled the research kit?! That seems like a horrible, horrible idea. So you can't research medkits? Or ammo? Or armor?? Right now I made c4 almost impossible to find on my server and made grenade more common to use for raiding and it seems to work much better now.
Because of exploits, it has been impossible to tell if explosive charges are too common on vanilla servers when only obtained through legitimate methods.
Everyone keeps talking about what Gary needs as far as info to help test. My question is well if he needs all this info and the drop rates are so high why does he not just say OK we really need you to test the c4 or the mp5's or whatever? If anything I think the fact that people are fed up with building a base only to have it blown apart after a day or two of a wipe should speak tons as to what most of us want. c4 is needed but NOT in the abundance it is now. People want to play this game not play and lose everything in a matter of seconds from a team running around with 50 c4 blowing up every base they come across. I am sure this is all good info for Gary either way. The argument wont stop because one side wants to be able to blow up everything and others want to actually be able to survive and play the game.
The admin on the server I play on has reduced the C4 in the game. So I would say it depends on what server you play on and what the admins do with the server they run.
