Jesus;43481851']Coincidence? Seriously?
Yeah, probably.
Other than these anecdotes, do you have anything that actually ties them together? Have you managed to look at the code of the game, or scraped data from the game (if it was reporting to VAC, it'd send a packet at some point to the Valve servers) to prove this connection? For a guy who argues "no you must be 100% logical all times", you sure do take illogical approaches to everything that isn't religion.
"truth" is a serverside option, VAC cannot be forced to ban players without manual intervention from Valve, it cannot be made more likely to pick up a player because the game says so. It is a totally autonomous framework that developers slap into their games and use, they do not need to interact with it in any way past including it in the game. They can't really interact past that. It'd be counter productive.
If it's a false positive, then it could be something in the game is causing a memory change in a way that VAC does not like, which shouldn't be detected as the game is doing it to itself. Or an issue with a file not matching up (that would get literally every player who plays during this time mind).
Stop jumping to conclusions, let the developers look into this and wait for their response.
Hang on, what about those modded extensions people were writing for Rust? Could those be causing it? Could playing on a modded server do it? I don't know the inner workings of VAC or anything, but a friend of mine was banned, and he played frequently on modded servers.
serverside = no.
There's only one thing I can think of that could have possibly triggered a false positive (it's a security measure we took to make hacks a lot, lot harder to make), but it was published in tonight's patch, and VAC bans usually take days to roll out...
doughnut worry these guys claiming 'false vac bans' are cheating assholes. don't listen to any appeals because VAC bans USUALLY take 2 or 3 days - months to roll out.
Actually AFAIK we fixed this in a recent patch, where teleporting someone grants you two seconds of assumed truth
Well that's nice that it's been fixed, finally.
VAC is 100% automated. All it does is check your games memory and matches it with the one in their database. For example, let's say the line of code for the in game clock is 0x001, but you are using a speed hack and the value is 0x002 then VAC notices somehow your games memory has been changed. This does not happen accidentally. They then put a flag on your account and when the next wave of bans occur you will be included. The game itself cannot issue VAC bans. In fact, no one can. False positive teleport warnings are the anti-cheat built into the game and cannot issue a VAC ban to anyone.
It's very very VERY rare but people have been manually vac banned before:
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=935780
But it pretty much never happens.
Well I'm going to bed. If I can't play Rust anymore because they still scanned my account, and they found that I was hacking, WHEN I WASNT, I really don't know if I can trust STeam or not.
I really wish it was not automated... :(

Certain false positives have caused instant bans in the past. Most notably the MW2 issue (which claimed ~12,000 accounts the second they tried playing the game).
serverside = no.
Alright, just thought I would ask, because it would seem that a lot of mods are already coming out, and I am not sure how VAC handles that kinda stuff. Thanks for that though!
Certain false positives have caused instant bans in the past. Most notably the MW2 issue (which claimed ~12,000 accounts the second they tried playing the game).
Yeah I'm pretty sure vac bans for mw2 were instant

If that was the case people that bought the game today wouldn't be banned an hour after playing since there was no history for them or that account for prior days.
Yeah I'm pretty sure vac bans for mw2 were instant
If I am correct you can request that bans be instant for certain games. A COD game would obviously want the hackers gone the second they're caught.
Jesus;43481851']That kicked player, many of them as you can read on these forums, are getting VAC banned.
Correlation does not equal causation.
I'm not VAC banned, haven't played Rust recently. Best way to avoid aaaaaall this frustration. :v:
If it's a false positive, you'll get let off the hook, guys. If it isn't a false positive, justice served. It's really simple. Calm your tits.

do you have a link to extremely recent accounts that don't have a lot of playtime and were VACd today?

That is what I said.
Would any of these Admin tools being released cause a ban? Some look like duping tools and so on. If the admin tool was client side and they where producing items or teleporting, wouldn't that trigger a ban Admin.
A lot of the admin tool are .EXE I know some are just an interface to access server side functions like Rcon tool. What if someone posted a malicious ADMIN TOOL program?

My account has .1 hours and no ban but I havent played the game for more than five minutes and that was like 2 weeks ago

Apparently there is no way it could be the cause. We will find out soon enough, though. I haven't played on any modded servers, and I have no ban, and one of my friends plays almost solely on modded servers, and he got a ban, it's certainly a correlation, but that means nothing.
VAC does not detect you falling through a floor. VAC does not detect your position in game and determine if you are hacking or not. VAC works by looking for a program hooking into the game files, a file modifying memory or modified game files. That's it. Your XYZ position in the game can not tell VAC to ban you. VAC is not controlled by Rust or Rust developers, it is controlled by valve.
Vac is nearly identical to Antivirus software. It can only scan and find what it knows to be a hack. Just because you have Microsoft word open and type the word virus, does not mean your AV program will think there is a virus in there and flag it.
If VAC did make a mistake, they will lift the bans but I know Valve is pretty strict on their bans and believe there is a 0 chance for a false positive.
now i'm not vac banded (i have been kicked a few time for rubberbanding and geting some speedhack kick msg) but what im getting at it that Nvidia released a new driver update 332.21 not long before this new patch....
mabe it might have something to do with all these bands ? its happened before
i havn't updated the new drivers yet and im thinking maybe ill wait in case this is something to do with it...

Some guy posted a picture of him being banned and only having 6 mins of game play. Well, he said he was banned anyways.

I looked up his steam account, doesn't have a profile set up so I can't be for sure.

Nope, don't think that's it either. My drivers are up-to-date, and there's not a ban on me.
Hello. First off, I would like to say that I am a firm believer in not hacking or cheating anyway, I like to earn my items in game and real life. I was VAC banned for a reason that i am not aware. I had fallen through several rocks and the map before, but i was under the impression it was just a game glitch, so i did not report it. If this is the reasoning for me being banned in-game, i would like to request an un-ban. I absolutely love your game Garry and for the life of me cant figure out why i was banned. I love the new updates and hate that i cannot play with them. Please remove the VAC ban asap if you will. I will very much appreciate it. Sincerely, A Beloved Fan of Rust!
Hi I was also banned for no reason, played happily last night till the ZA server went down for update. I would appreciate if Facepuch can look into it, I love Rust!

There's nothing really left to discuss here. The developers are aware, and will look into it. Keep an eye on development blogs and the Rust news page to see what they find and what they plan on doing.

Hold up there guys. Serverside mods would not trigger bans for clients that connect.
But if you're an admin and you're running the game, and you run an EXE that gives you abilities like hacks, just because you're an admin does not mean that VAC isn't going to ban you for that shit.
Jesus;43481603']You realize that VAC bans effect EVERY game on Steam, right? You realize that these folks are likely banned from a ton of other games now too, right?
This is a massive problem and FP should be pulled out of their beds and work immediately to get this fixed and not stop until it is fixed.
Fucking outrageous.
You are absolutely wrong with this statement. You shouldn't type unless you know the information is true and correct. If you had bothered to check Valve/Steam website and the information available on VAC you will know VAC only bans on engine. Hack on a source engine game, ban from all source engine games. Hack on a older HL engine, ban from all HL engine games.

it's fun to see someone from 2006 just spitting straight knowledge.

Pretty sure this isnt true anymore either. It only gets you banned from that specific game now, they dropped engine bans a long time ago.
I don't see a section anywhere on facepunch site to open a ticket for this or get support
I was playing on a server a couple of days ago when someone started to ddos it - he admitted he was doing this in chat.
I started running towards the big mountain and kept getting rubberbanded around, and was trying to get to the other side to logoff and come back later.
Finally I made it to the top, and then I started to quickly run down the slope using spacebar to kind of "ski" down it.
Another huge lagspike, and I am warped back a long distance, then suddenly banned from the server, I assume because of the truth.enforce.
Now suddenly I have a VAC ban on my steam account. I have never used hacks.
Someone please tell me who to contact to get this fixed, thanks.
