do you have a link to extremely recent accounts that don't have a lot of playtime and were VACd today?
Sir can you please read my PM thanks.. and good day..
VAC is 100% automated. All it does is check your games memory and matches it with the one in their database. For example, let's say the line of code for the in game clock is 0x001, but you are using a speed hack and the value is 0x002 then VAC notices somehow your games memory has been changed. This does not happen accidentally. They then put a flag on your account and when the next wave of bans occur you will be included. The game itself cannot issue VAC bans. In fact, no one can. False positive teleport warnings are the anti-cheat built into the game and cannot issue a VAC ban to anyone.
It's time for part 2 because there are a few select idiots who don't seem to get it. When FP pushes an update to steam, the new version of rust is what makes the database that it compares your game to. The only way a false positive can happen is if a file that changes memory somehow makes its way to the clients via update but doesn't get put on the version valve has. What happened with MW2 is that the disk based version of the game ran a DLL in a completely different way than the software version. Any false VAC's would be on Valve's part, and only Valve. This is why it is really unlikely that these are false positives and not just hackers giving it a shot at getting their account back.
Hello Rust people. I have been vac banned from every server and i dont know why this has happened. i enjoy your game very much and this makes me angry because i was vac banned for no reason?!?!?! i have not hacked on any game and i get all of my things on the game fairly. i am outraged because i am banned. please do something about this and please un-ban me and all the other players that have been banned for no reason. Best Regards MadDevil
Yeah, has anyone else noticed that the influx of first-time posters asking about their bans have messages that all follow the exact same format?
Pretty sure this isnt true anymore either. It only gets you banned from that specific game now, they dropped engine bans a long time ago.
No, its still and will always be engine bans. Being ban in say MW2 will not get you ban in MW3. Being ban in DOTA will only have you ban in DOTA. The only thing I am not sure on is if there is a game running multiple engines but not designed by Valve. For anyone else interested: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7849-RADZ-6869 You can see how VAC works and how it is independent from the game. It is its own system and it knows what its looking for. You can contact Steam(NOT FP) about a VAC ban. If its in error, its up to Valve to lift the ban, not FP. FP has no play in this. Period. Judging by the quantity of hackers I have seen in this game, I think these are all those people who though they were safe. I've been monitoring websites which have hacks for the public and there are threads with hundreds and hundreds of posts with files which have thousands of downloads. The rust community is 20k players. Most of those hackers were led to believe there was no VAC since the VAC emblem was not on the Rust page in Steam. Boy did you guys get played. I know approx 20 - 40 legit players. 0 reported bans from any of them. Suck it up. You cheated, you got sniffed, and you're paying for it.
I have been banned, and the same as happened to me? Is their anyway for this to be a bug, because I havn't even been hacking or anything! Please help me :( Edit: I saw what Johhnymads post wrote, my other account got banned on this forum because I posted something in the wrong seciton (my account was shock12345) (User was permabanned for this post ("alt of Shock12345, don't make alts" - postal))
Any game not designed by valve, and not operating under source, or GoldSRC are all considered "Independent Games" even if some games run on the same engine.
Thought so. That's how it goes. That other chap was suggesting one vac ban for all games. This is why some accounts have multiple bans. My knowledge comes from when Steam was first started, the only VAC protected games were those made by Valve on the gold src and source engine.
It's not even worth arguing. The only way to get through to these redditors is to put it in meme format or in a gif.
It's not even worth arguing. The only way to get through to these redditors is to put it in meme format or in a gif.
And seeing as that sort of thing is likely to attract undesired mod attention, do you want to make the popcorn, or should I?
Yeah, has anyone else noticed that the influx of first-time posters asking about their bans have messages that all follow the exact same format?
I want to see links to their profiles to see how many hours all of them have?
Some guy posted a picture of him being banned and only having 6 mins of game play. Well, he said he was banned anyways. This account is new does not mean that more cheat used, if this were the case all new accounts should be banned.
Hello. First off, I would like to say that I am a firm believer in not hacking or cheating anyway, I like to earn my items in game and real life. I was VAC banned for a reason that i am not aware. I had fallen through several rocks and the map before, but i was under the impression it was just a game glitch, so i did not report it. If this is the reasoning for me being banned in-game, i would like to request an un-ban. I absolutely love your game Garry and for the life of me cant figure out why i was banned. I love the new updates and hate that i cannot play with them. Please remove the VAC ban asap if you will. I will very much appreciate it. Sincerely, A Beloved Fan of Rust!
Don't believe you cheating scrub, VAC isn't stupid to ban people for no reason if an open handle to the game has been created by any program that is flagged under valve's VAC DB as a cheat then you will be banned. Developers can submit cheats they find to VAC which get processed and blacklisted in the database. VAC won't ban for unknown activity unless that activity has been approved as a cheat. I quote from steamworks
VAC works by scanning a users system for known cheats, but new cheats are being authored all the time. Players of your game are going to find instances of cheating software. Valve will scan and create signatures of those cheats to be added to our database. Once running on the live system for a few days, we'll confirm that the files really constitute a cheat, or determine which parts of the software are the cheat-active parts (and not some other benign redistributable). Once confirmed, then bans will be enforced and the marked users will be banned.
I could just test this by recording my screen and TPing everywhere as a server admin. If I get a VAC (probably wont since it takes a few days or in a wave right?) then it's true. If not, false.

Nevermind, looks like it updated in the time it took me to post.
Someone just PM'd me his login details to a hack site. Hahahaha I can tell you most people who complained here were banned for a legit reason.
same.. but what can we do to prove that we where not hacking.. we cant, so what other choice do I have besides buying the game again?
Even that doesn't work, abuddy of mine was also VAC banned and they didnt want to unban him so he bought the game again, so after last night's update he was suddenly banned with his new account aswel... So I decided not to buy a new one seeing it doesnt solve the problem...
he was suddenly banned with his new account aswel...
I'm guessing he left his hack exe running in the systemtray aw well guess he deservers another ban then
Someone just PM'd me his login details to a hack site. Hahahaha I can tell you most people who complained here were banned for a legit reason.
And no one was surprised.
And no one was surprised.
Scum doesn't tend to be intelligent, my friend. :v:
This thread is crazy. Let's be clear about how this works: 1. VAC cannot ban based on "reports" - either by other players or developers. None of you were banned because somebody told on you. 2. VAC cannot ban based on developer requests. None of you were banned because FP told on you. 2a. Following from point 2, VAC will not ban you for setting off false-positives on the games built-in speed hack detection system. VAC does not care whether or not the Rust code decided you were moving too quickly. 3. The only use of user reports of suspecting hacking is for confirmation of suspected hacks by Valve. That is, if Valve has identified a suspect process that may be a cheat, and Valve receives a significant number of reports about a suspect player account, it will see if that account is running any suspect processes. 4. VAC bans only occur if you are running third party software that the VAC engine has flagged as a cheat engine. It will not occur for using admin commands, or for lagging, or for getting a running start down a steep hill with the wind at your back. You aren't kidding anybody. You were caught. Deal with it.
I don't play Rust but I do occasionally lurk the forums for a laugh and to watch Postal work his magic. If you did the exploit detailed here (doors always open by editing assembly-csharp.dll) http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1343968 You were already/will be VAC'd as you're editing the assemblies of the game. VAC will detect those kinds of changes to a binary.
