Paying to play online doesn't have anything to do with Rust, that's all Microsoft.
Mods can still be used, since they're all run on the server which would still have to be on a Windows Server machine.
Since the console version would be cross-platform compatible, updates would have to be pushed to PC and Xbox or whatever other console at the same time.
Updates at least on Xbox cost the developer money every time. Even for bug fixes. MS charges to certify the new version.
Consoles and their ports have wrecked enough PC games.
I vote no to this. Rust should be PC only.

That's not how Microsoft works. At all. MS has very strict cross-platform rules. Each server has to be quality tested and assured that it will work 100% at all times for every player with minimal lag. The candidates are obviously the regular regional/dedicated servers (since they'll always be vanilla, you're not gonna find servers with mods/community addons). I highly doubt a community player could put his server up for cross-platforming without official facepunch team members having to quality check the server, and the server host and run it through with all the requirements, then run it all back to microsoft.
Paying for online indeed does have nothing to do with Rust, but like you said it's all Microsoft and there's no way around it. Either way, unlike steam, you gotta cough-up to play console multiplayer. Since Xbox One won't allow cross-platforming, the only chance you'd have is with last gen consoles like Xbox 360 until their policy changes. MS does charge per update, so it would be months until garry puts on an update that's for the money's worth.
Sony works in a very similar way.
It would be an endless money-pit to keep up with Rust on consoles just for a small majority of players to buy it and be held back with lack of updates and 100% pure vanilla.
Exclusive for Xbox one? No thank you...
Oh your six year old child mind thinks there's to many buttons... I feel bad for you... Honestly just let them at least get it into beta on the pc before you suggest bringing it to consoles. Why must they focus on only what you want?
Another runner up for best thread of 2k14.
here is Facepunch studio's official stand on this subject.
"We recently got some devkits. I want to explain where we are with consoles.. because there’s been a lot of speculation on the forums and on twitter.
So with Rust, we are planning to port it to consoles. We haven’t started that process yet. We’re not planning anything until we’ve tried to get it running on one of the consoles and know what problems we’re going to face. It’s important to emphasise here that we’re porting TO consoles. We’re not making a dumbed down console version and then porting it back to the PC. So might happen, might not. Depends on a bunch of stuff. Either way neither the PS4 or XBone have any kind of early access program as far as I know, so it will be a while away.
The Steam Box has made us a bit more free. We can spend time making games that play awesome on the TV but don’t really shine in front of a PC. It’s not a risk anymore for us. It’s because of Steam Box we feel free to work on games like that. Even if they never reach the other consoles they now have a place on Steam. There’ll still be people who want to play them.
TLDR: We love the PC. It’ll always be our main target. We’ll always be porting away from it, not to it. We won’t ever sign exclusivity deals. You’ll always get our games on the PC first. "

this has to be a joke thread, too many buttons on pc? really? there's probably less buttons you need to use on a pc than all a controllers buttons combined
Personally I think the PC version (and I guess only version) of Rust is quite hard because there's just too many buttons to press.
Is there a way we can bring Rust on the Xbox One or something? Thanks
and if steam get the controller right we might end up changing our minds that keyboard and mouse are the interface for 1st person gaming , but for now keyboard/mouse out shine any controller i have tried.
We will not end up changing our minds, ever.
I'm going to come out and say it. i'm a console gamer. i have a ps4 and i find the use of the controller quite enjoyable, but mouse and keyboard completely trump a console controller in every way possible.
Maybe they will do it one day but without aim assist ofc . I will always choose a keyboard and mouse over a controller but maybe some find it fun the other way , probably a lot of time will pass until they add that anyway.
PS4 controller is definitely awesome, I use it for stuff like FNV and Octodad on my PC (don't own any new consoles, just wanted a new controller and got one for my birthday.) But using one on PC in a competitive online shooter is suicide.

as a heavy PC user
you're a dick we don't want you go away
go play OUYA no one likes you
the only games I think controllers are better in are some third person games, racing games and platform games.
pretty much almost everything else is mouse keyboard > controller

He is reffering to the side paddles any sticks on a gamepad have more than on/off input. So you can walk or drive from a crawl to a full out run the further you move the input. He does have a point which is why keyboards and mice wont havr as much fun in a racing game.
However, if Logitech and some game companies would pick up this tech. You could use wasd without needing a sprint. Or you could control the power of your swings in a combat game.

If you had known there would be so many buttons in most pc games and still choose to complain why buy it? Minecraft did that and it has caused multiple oddities and amenities disliked by one platform or the other
EDIT: Plus i play with gaming consoles and pc and i have no problem whatsoever your just complaining because your not used to the new ropes.
Nope! its going to be on the wii!
