first of all i dont use that argument :) second of all, read my post. also.. comparing using crack with getting a brightness advantage in a video game? really???? I dont think you necessarily gain an advantage over other people in high school if you use crack.
You changed your post, I was quoting the original. Second off, it's the principal of herd mentality that I'm referring to, not the negative values from using crack compared to using gamma cheats. Let me re-phrase:
"Oh, 70% of our high school class is cheating on their final exams, guess that makes them the smartest people and makes cheating okay!"
that's essentially what I'm reading from your post, revised and original.
for the record, using a cheap and stupid cheat doesn't make the person using it cheap and stupid. but it doesn't make them the best players ever, either. You're trying to draw focus to the double meanings in the principles in the arguments raised against you for the convenience of your argument in a sneaky way. Kind of takes away from the strength of your argument. The classic, "you're acting like a crazy person," equating to hearing, "you're a crazy person," situation. Stahp it. Using an outside force to negate/bypass the mechanics of the game set in place by the developers is a cheat, plain and simple. Using gamma to bypass limited visibilty at night when the devs made night dark so it'd be more challenging is cheating. Should it be bannable? Not necessarily. Does it make you a better player to use gamma? That's a subjective argument, so again, not necessarily. Does it make you a worse player? Again subjective, but IMHO if you're bypassing game mechanics to get the upper hand as opposed to playing without tweaking the game world for your betterment, you're using a cheap and stupid advantageous tactic and you lose hippopoints.
Alright fine, whatever, just dont call it stupid. its what, by now, almost everyone is doing. people care more for the competetive aspect than the immersiveness that night brings.
And the reason why people care more for the competitive aspect than the immersiveness that night brings is because of the herd mentality, that everyone else is doing it. Plus doesn't it detract from the spirit of competition if people are trying to cheat the game they're competing in?

Also, I'm sorry if my tone came off harsh. Not trying to be a dickowombat, I swear. <3
Some people have bright screens, some people have dark screens: There is no way to balance everyone out so there is no point in trying (some people would need less and some people more gamma), there is no way of stopping people from using basic functions of their video drivers.. let those who want to gamma up do it, if you don't : your problem.
I know I turn my gamma up because every other person does it, I'm sure. At least every other GOOD person. I want to be able to see as well as they do at night. As far as limiting the gamma, it will never happen. Considering my is controlled through Nvidia's control panel, they can't limit shit.
tl;dr turn up your gamma like the rest of us.
sth like this would be cool. screen from arma 3. sorry for the big size, no idea how to downscale it
congratulations, but gammasutra is a tool that lets you change the gamma with a hotkey on your keyboard whereas in-game settings (unless we are speaking source or quake type games where you can often bind it), monitor drivers and monitor UI force you to go idle to set it up.
AMD Catalyst Control Center supports hotkeys as well
Last and 3rd edit:
Seems like the programs alright, its just affects how windows present the game window on the screen.
Thanks for your answers!
Where the hell that "adjust the gamma programs" shown up anyway ? There are 2 major brands for GPU and both of them supports gamma or brighthness change from their control panel directly.I believe Intel onboard ones support as well.
On the other hand at COD MW2 most of pro players were just adjusting their graphic settings to low to avoid smoke bomb effectiveness. With that way they can shoot and kill targets more easily. No one ever called players who play the game like this, because %90 of the playerbase have done the same thing. So it's the same thing for gamma on this game it seems.
Also mods on games, they were developed because they give advantages to "player".Lot's MMOs have them, some of the shooter games also have them too. They just modifies(allowed part only) the original form of the game which creates another challenge.
