But its not a console, its just not the same
What does that even mean?
But its not a console, its just not the same
I think if you install SteamOS on it, and leave it next to your TV, it kind of is. The idea behind SteamOS is that you aren't just booting up Windows - it's an OS designed for use with a controller, and specifically for games.
How expensive will it be though?
SteamOS itself will be free, at least that's what they announced. The cost is in the controller and the machine itself, of course. The controller, I don't know, but the machine cost is entirely dependent on how much you're willing to spend. Do you want a budget machine or a beast machine? Your choice.
for the same price as the ps4 can i get the same amount of power
Well... to give you an idea, I can custom build a decent mid-range PC for around $500, this is just in cost of parts (this is getting some of the parts used, btw). Not a beast, but not bad either. Now, in order to turn a profit, a console has to be priced higher than the bill of materials. That means the BOM for the PS4 is some amount lower than $500. It could be they made a deal with various manufacturers to buy parts in bulk at a lower per-unit price, so perhaps it would be approximately equivalent to my custom PC in terms of power. Either that, or slightly less powerful. However, consider that the PS4 is going to have a long console lifecycle. If the last generation is any indication, it will be sold as-is for at least 5 years, if not 7 or 8. During that span, PC graphics will still be advancing at a rapid rate, and old cards will fall in price. That means I can continually upgrade my Steambox over time with better cards as they become cheaper. That, I think, is the main power of the Steambox.
I believe the PS4 is sold at a loss, not as much as the PS3 was but still a loss.
The point still stands, however. Consoles are never top of the line, even on release day. By the time the PS5 is released I will likely have upgraded my Steambox several times.

Nothing is more convenient than a console.

A few things the PS4 will do better than your PC: -Advanced rumble in the controller, not just a standard vibrator anymore -Always-on recording that is pre configured to dedicated hardware, see 'share' button. I realise you can do this on PC, but it's not easy and takes a lot of technical skill to accomplish. On PS4? One button. -Games will be specifically optimized to the PS4's hardware so the gameplay experience will be exactly the same between you and your opponents. Granted, I love my PC and all of the great things it offers me as well. Just try to stay away from making it so glaringly obvious that most of you are arguing your ownership bias. Painfully obvious.

That's the main reason I use both... (PC and Console). I enjoy the cycle every time it happens, play some Consoles while they're new, then head back to PC where I belong. :)

There just aren't any of the killer games that make me say "Oh wow I've got to have one right now!". Scratch that, there is one game (Kingdom Hearts 3 looks amazing). But unfortunately I can't really justify buying a $500 console for one single game.
