Dinosaurs has the majority vote ... What are you complaining about? :p
everyone in this thread is complaining about the fact dinos are the popular vote like "NO DONT ADD SOMETHING ORIGINAL I NEED ANOTHER GENERIC MILITARY POST APOC SURVIVAL GAME LIKE THE 50 THOUSAND OTHER ONES"
I honestly think Dinosaurs would be a great addition, and here's why: I've seen a LOT of people just wandering around killing others for the sake of killing others - what better way to stop that THAN A FREAKING HUGE FUCKING TYRANNOSAURUS REX COMING OVER THE HORIZON TO BITE YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF IF YOU DARE TO MAKE A SINGLE NOISE LOUDER THAN A BREATH. Plus it's quite unique.
I haven't been following Stomping Lands so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't it will have anywhere near the custom building that Rust has. It looks pretty, but Rust's biggest strength is its base building and siege. It's pretty but without custom bases like Rust has, I'd pass. If Rust maintains a mix of modern tech and ancient, it will still be something quite different.
Dinosaurs.... ;~; Mutant animals would've been nuts man. I can see myself running away from fluffy predator chickens.
One of those animals needs to be, giant, like a very powerfull animal or an creature walking very very slow around all map in a random path. If you see this creature obviously you need avoid because is instant kill. And an important detaill, without agro to prevent people use the creature to attack other players/structures. If this creature stumbles with your structure, this will be affected, would not be completely destroyed but you need reconstruct or fix the damaged parts. If the creature hits the structure should be change the route again random, like car toys, example of idea xD Maybe an admin can change the "speed" of this creature for change strategies xD.
I don't really care what gets put in as long as you can get head shots and they fix the targeting problem when arrows go through the creature and does not register. I don't know how many times I have shot through a bear or wolf already. I have a feeling this is left over code form the zombies as if you shot at them when they where mid swing this would happen sometimes.
Why not combine a few of them? they could make for some great AI vs. AI situations too. I've seen a few good posts like that already in this thread. Arguments sake, How about any of these: Tribesmen/Dinosaurs/Animals (and/or Their Mutant Variants) Mutant Humans/Military/Animals (and/or their Normal variants) Mythical Creatures/humans/Animals (and/or Their Mutant Variants) Etc, Etc. The combinations will obviously be more work, but the outcome will probably be much more fulfilling in terms of populating the environment. Like, Would you observe the massive fight from afar and kill the straddlers? or charge in alone/grouped and make it a 3-way survival death-match?
For the dinosaurs, there is another survival game coming to steam early access next month called "The Stomping Land", which is primarily based around dinosaurs. Hunting them, fighting them, riding them. I think the similarity would be to much between rust and stomping land. I'd stick with mutant animals and people. I see others have mentioned stomping lands on here, and how rust is different due to the crafting, unfortunately/fortunately you can craft in stomping lands, not to the extent as you can in rust, but there is crafting your own little teepee, fireplace, totum pole, and more than likely other things down the road. A mutant lizard could suffice as dinosaur like, i just think since radiation plays a big factor in the game mutant anything would fit the best. But whatever is added im sure it would be cool. Ohhhh, a chupacabra would be cool, lol
and how would you implement dinos? they would be bulletsponges, and if not they arent worth to be implement, because they aren't a threat. they destroy buildings with a few hits, so the whole building concept is shit, if they don't stomp your house, they are to weak or just useless. how do they fit into the whole envirment? 1 trex hunts down the whole pig/deer population in 1 day. Its a nice idea for a rust mod, but the whole gameplay would be disturbed. People always think from the well equipped side of the game, not from the starting point. we're not caveman, just because we carry a rock! I mean you don't call yourself a scientiest just because you can read a book.
I do belive Dinosaurs would fit. The athmosphere would be awesome! Imagine. You're trying to gather some wood for your home and you see a dinosaur roaming the wood pile. I do belive it's way better than seeing a strange RED wolf barking on the wood pile. + For dinosaurs!
If you want dinosaurs in this atmosphere you should go play The Stomping Land s.. For the love of all that is rusty I hope they dont bring dinos into rust.
Why not the military AND mutant/alien-like creatures? Here's what I've thought of: A possible story line to rust : This is the year 2017, several wars have broken out and ceased to exist, the military have boosted there recruitment to maintain the peace in the world. You're posted at a regular military barracks with other military outposts and fortresses around your area on the rust island. One night your lieutenant informs the men that a distress called has been issued from an outpost a few hours walk from the barracks. Your superior commander has issued a company to be dispatched their in the morning. After an hour's truck drive to the station the small recon company investigate, only to find the few men guarding the outpost dead and some missing. As night begins to fall from the ouposts walls you hear your men shouting about 'lights in the sky'. You go outside to see this bright light shoot from sky down to the forest. A few minutes later you hear weird noises coming from that direction getting closer and closer. Your captain orders men and yourseld to lock-and-load the watch lights are on and the men are ready and waiting. Then out of the forest hideous creatures leap and go savage, the men shout with fear then the orders are called : 'OPEN FIRE, SHOOT TO KILL'. The gunshots are fired and the creatures take alot of hits before going down but in the end they manage to climb up onto the small walls. Billy was the first one to fall...fall being a relaxed word for what happened to him. As your men retreat to the inner compound your captain is clutched by one of the hideous creature's, one thing leads to another and the creature tears the captain apart throwing his body parts in the air. The men scream and shout 'RUN FOR YOUR LIVES'. You jump of the back wall hurting your knees and turn around to see one man jump and get caught mid air with a hand sticking through his chest and then get's pulled back into the outpost. A few stood their ground and shoot their last remaining bullets whilst the other ran for their lives. You on the other hand ran towards the barracks... After a day's running for what seemed a life time you reach the barracks only to find that the gates are wide open and the walls are un-maned. All the equipment is gone and no one is left around. You then try and gather up what's left and run as far away as you can. A few days later all you have left is a torch, a rock, and a a few bandages from your teared up clothes wondering how you are going to survive. Wow that was a lot of righting.
m00tated sheep
I'm cool as long as T-rex tastes like chicken.
Dinosaurs + cannibals to fight for survival. King Kong and the only woman to win the game!

Some of the best games come form concepts that don't "fit".

Honestly, I'm going to say this, I love rust, have over 130hrs in it. If dinos get added, rust becomes "this dino game" and with stomping lands on its way in a month, on unreal engine 3, made specifically for dinos, rust wont be able to hold up against it. It will be "this dino game" vs "that dino game" and like i said, i love rust, but the dino movements wouldnt hold up to a game designed on unreal engine 3 with dinos in mind from the start. Unless there is a serious overhaul on player/AI animations.

As someone already pointed out they would be useless and not a threat or too dangerous and would make it impossible to play. If you want your dinosaurs go play Stomping Grounds please.

I personnaly think the best answer is... All of them ! But Only one at the time. You could add an option for server owners : When they start their server, the map and the enemies (and the weapons / houses / ... ?) are different depending on the chosen option, but the gameplay stay the same. This way you could have a lot of differents games in one, and people will choose the environment they prefer.

The Devs have already created a pretty solid foundation to work with, so I think you should just sip a beer and watch it unfold. Even though I think the military idea could work, you don't want that as a major theme in the game, or else Rust could just become another CoD(Boring) /BF4(boring). The Aliens idea could work, I just think the Military idea is lame. If you want your boring military shooter with go play CoD:G/BF4 please. I should have known this was going to snowball into a massive defecation storm.
Since you edited this comment so nicely in retrospect, and want an answer, I will point out that I think the assumption that adding dinosaurs will "ruin the game", is dumb.
Honestly it could very well ruin the game, there is another game with dinosaurs, which is very similar to rust in the basic fundamentals, coming out in a month. People's mentality is always to compare, thus the dayz vs rust mentality. With dino game vs dino game it will be unwanted competition. stomping land could fail and rust prevail, or it could be very well executed and give rust (being a dino game now) a run for its money.

Not sure they would actually do it though, it would be a lot more work to create a good game with so many various kinds of mobs.
If we end up with some kind of mutant zombies or aliens I think I will stop playing lol. I'm not critisizing people's ideas. I just think there are plenty of games out there with that kind of theme. I get no kick out of a standard zombie game unless u do something pretty unique with it. I love the fact that this ISNT one of those games. It's realistic, I want it to stay that way. If you start adding mythical creatures then u might as well give us magic too and make it into an elder scrolls sandbox. At the moment rust is pretty unique n I want it stay that way. I do like the idea of adding dinosaurs and realise creatures but I don't think they need to be a too bigger part of the game .. I want the biggest threat of the game to remain as other players. But like I said in a previous post, give us a reason to hold and compete over certain areas .. Like resource specific areas, certain things are only available in marshy wetlands, and some only available in Rocky Mountain etc.

Maybe their could be a few strong headquarters or something throughout the map where the military have some strongholds. You on the other hand could be quarantined and don't have any side to go to, you're on your own basically just like rust it right now.
