Include some towns that include loot only obtainable in towns or other landmarks that are rustic and overrun by radiation and mutant creatures, could also make it more immersive by adding in looting that actually makes sense, so in drawers, under things, above things, inside boxes etc, it just would be a better experience.
Democracy has no place here, introduce what YOU want, it's your game and we've all implicitly supported you in making your game by paying to see it made.
I honestly don't care what the replacement is as long as it isn't military.
i think military clans as npcs would fit the best.
trying to get control over some areas.
and it would be the same mechanic with zombies, from a certain distance u cant know if its a player or npc.

This.

This already basically exists. It's called The Forest, and is coming out in Alpha soon.

We seriously need to get rid of the whole rad idea since it's only there to make sense with zombies and is fucking up the entire direction of the game. Once the devs decide what they want it'd be easier to come up with mobs. The best solution would prob be to simply diversify the wildlife and making more hostile creatures and expanding the zones for more cities and towns. The rest shall be left to players to do whatever they wish and kill who they kill.

Radiation is there for gameplay purposes as well. It keeps areas of the map uninhabitable, which is perfect, because then you can put loot in those areas, and players can duke it out over the loot rather than someone monopolizing it.
For examples of monopolization, just look at any civilian buildings that are not in radiation. Nine times out of ten I see some sort of player structure built over or around them, so they can freely loot the containers there.
Rust doesn't need another NPC. Scrap the red bears and wolves and add more loot boxes in their place.
Any other NPCs should be animal-related.
Instead, Rust should have weather, natural disasters, (non)-communicable diseases, mental health/necessity of human interaction, necessity of sleep, physical deterioration, dehydration... there's so much more that can be mentioned. Rust should remain a true survival game.
And then we resurrect dinosaurs.
The idea of tribesmen is by far the best option, although Garry didn't make it a possible choice in the poll.
The reason it would work is because the natives in the Amazon jungle also don't live very far from modern society, so it doesn't completely ruin the immersion. It would make this game a lot more interesting, because you could have the tribes':
- "hunters",
- "shamans" (preferably one per camp) and
- "gatherers".
The hunters go out at night for big game hunting and a possible player to kill.
The shamans can poison you if you come in the tribe's camp and the gatherers are strolling the whole map for resources, but once they notice a player they start sprinting very quickly, but they are relatively easy to kill and a good start for new spawns because they carry resources they have been gathering.
This would also take away the need for a starter kit because the gatherers use basic items like a stone hatchet and a bow. Gatherers are also able to place traps for hunting, but players could also get stuck in them.
Things that will need to be added to make this work:
- Stealth, so players can sneak up on the gatherers.
- Critical hit locations so that if you hit a gatherer on the head with your rock he dies immediately, or if you shoot a gatherer in the leg with your bow he is only able to walk really slowly because he has been crippled.
- Traps, to annoy players that get stuck in them and to catch wildlife. But players can also kill the animals that get stuck in the traps, so that it makes hunting easier if you're lucky.
- Some way of poisoning.
Sorry if there were any grammatical mistakes, but English isn't my first language.
If you have any ideas that could add to this, please reply :)
ARE YOU SERIOUS GARY ???
Scrapes in millions of dollars, doesn't know what kind of game he's making.
I'm starting to think most of the budget was spent on hookers and booze....
Giants & mythical creatures +1
Why not? Mutant Humans are more suitable than Dinasours especialy in rad areas. They already removed zombies for being against the natural world. And if the game has tendency about hi-tech, robots are also good. Those would need different base though. Like protecting the guilty military labs bases with futuristic robots.
I voted dino's, just because this poll shows how much gary cares, aslong as more revenue is made !
Please, anythinh but militaries. If I wanted to play Arma 3 and mods I would have bought it.
Make it fun and original! I would love to see some bad ass giants and we all meet on the field to defeat him, same for dragons!
NO MILITARIES!!!
I'm sure you'll have a good idea though.
Ciao
For what it's worth, there's no reason why a couple different things couldn't work. I think a mysterious military organization would fit thematically as they are attempting to police/patrol the land, but if you get past them to one of a handful of locations, then maybe you'd find dinosaurs...
Why don't we just replace them with something special at all?
Just keep it real, my idea is just the random wildlife there is now and add a mountain lion and puma or something make them rare to find and make them drop the rare stuff. Please keep this game realistic and in the present time!
Fiiiiiiiinally people are catching on to the idea that we DONT NEED a major NPC! :D
It's a game about survival so give us a blank canvas of a map with different regions, climates and wildlife!
Regions - Sea, sandy beach, marshland, thick Forrest, open green fields, Rocky Mountain, snowy highlands, deserts, lakes, rives you name it! Give us a real map and let us fill it!
Climates - Sun, rain, snow. Tropic storms, hurricanes, floods, drought, volcano eruptions.
Animals - Wolves, bears, snakes, dear, alligators, fish, lions (and other dangerous cats), you name it!
Area specific animals and resources! All those animals and many many more have their own region and drop specific resources like fur or leather to make clothing. Horns and claws to make tools and weapons. Venom to make poison for arrows etc. And all areas have different natural resources. Sulphur near volcanos, good quality wood in forests. Ores on mountains and caves. Water.
This alone creates a HUGE amount of player interaction. People will make base in areas of rich resources and be forced to travel to get other materials. Maybe even involve trespassing or fighting someone else for their land. It could also create a great way to trade because people will have something of value to others.
Also give us farming where certain crops grow better on certain land.
.. And disease. Give us all kinds of diseased and conditions that certain plants (if made into the right medicine) can be used to cure.
Another major part of this game is evolution. Over a long period of many hours playing, people can evolve to create more modern things.
Everyone will have a blank canvas and will be able to do exactly what they want!
Want to build a town or a city? Build it! Wanna build a nice cottage and have a farm? Do it! Wanna study disease and medicine and become a doctor? Do it! Wanna be a hunter? Do it! Wanna start a military? Do it!
If we were given a blank canvas and a map like this then there is no limit to what we can do with it! But if we forge it into a game populated by any one of these enemies then we become extremely limited. And risk turning it into a PvE.
Think about it guys :)
dinosaurs are wildlife
Dinosaurs couldn't even breath the modern air without dying a horrible death. There'd be giant, stinking cadavers all over the place.

can we make a compromise with just crocodiles?
Yeah, crocs are fine. A swampy region with lots of crocodiles in them would be great.
A wrong step and your leg is gone. Or at least some HP.
i would vote for some slenderman that looks like garry irl.
and if it detects you it will sprint towards you and start screaming : It's Alpha!!!1 It's ALpha!!1 What d'you expect!!?!
I voted military, but venomous animals should be an option.. Snakes, etc

U must have not played the game for long. I've played for a month and it is getting boring for sure.
This game is about survival u say? Ok, when u start it for the first time it is uneasy to survive,
but a couple of days pass and you are loaded with food and good stuff.
Then u start to fight with neighbors. And do it endlessly((((
The whole sense of game now is to make ur surrounding weak and dont let them do the same with u.
However, it is boring cause it demands constant repeating of such actions like: make c4, take base, make another c4, defend ur base, again c4...
Thats why we need some ominous forces to fight with - to make our gameplay diverse and actually better.
Ill tell u secretly there is a nice game for dedicated farmers called archeage)))

I've got well over 200 hours in rust and I'm not bored. I play on a great server with a great community, we work together to build, defend our bases and attack enemies. Yes .. As the game currently stands there is little content with little to do. That's because the game is in alpha .. That's not because it isn't full of NPCs. Adding mindless NPCs to shoot won't change change that. Did anyone actually enjoy the 1 shot zombies? I personally found they were more of a nuisance than something "fun".
More content will give people more to do and that doesn't necessarily lie in adding mutant NPCs (for example). I certainly won't get a kick out of it. I'd much rather we have new content that we can be creative with.
The zombie will therefore in common with mutant human mind that it is in the series changes of the cerebral cortex or something like that the radiation will have very well have caused this.
The dinosaur able to be introduced so that the planet is being destroyed it could have come from somewhere.
The aliens even though many people do not like to be able to add an interesting gameplay, robot able to be instore at the same temperature as the alien or the military, such as scout etc..
The millitary will welcome being the fact that there have air drop it has to come from somewhere ...
Mythical creature also not be bad, not any non eh?
Gender, a giant Cyclops with one eye due to radiation ..
The mutant animals are already the personally, I think it would reduce the number.
But the map is too small should enlarge or used zonne unused.
Green thumb so that it sees the comment. :p
I would like to ask a question - why "zombies" should be replaced with some other form of enemy ? My point being what kind of different mechanic could be incorporated other than animate and aggressive things/animals/aliens/giants/robots/<insert_your_fantasy_enemy_persona> from which we could acquire items, blueprints and stuff like that ?
- this is just for discussion sake...
Bring back the zombies.
I really hope military doesn't win even with dinosaurs as we have way to much of it UNLESS, he takes the top 3 or 4 and incorporates them in various area's. Wouldn't mind seeing mutants in rad area's, maybe military as a group that is coming into this "unknown" area to try and claim it, dinosaurs for something a bit different, and since it's the 4th highest "mythical" creatures to just make it an interesting place full of danger and excitement.
I really don't think military will win. Garry has already expressed his opinion on that one and he doesn't like it. What's the point in making the devs do something they don't wanna do? They will only end up half arsing it cos their heart isn't in it. Then everyone will think it's crap.
However if we were given to tools to create out own military's then what's wrong with that? It's all about being creative. We don't necessarily need NPCs that aren't wild animals.
