If they would like to go for realism then nothing. Just nice wildlife. Radioactive Wolves Of Chernobyl [documentary 56 min] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK99dvJO5PY#t=3163
Dinosaurs? Serious? What about Unicorns? Ok... If they are mutated and eat human flesh then we´re talking. [editline]26th April 2014[/editline]
admins
A horde of... [editline]26th April 2014[/editline]
Rust/The forest
That would kinda cause some copyright issues :-)
Russians
So what about dem Unicorns?
Definitely NOT dinosaurs, that is just a terrible, terrible, infantile idea. Rust should stay a postapocalyptic slightly radioactive "realistic" survival. So mutaded humans, animals, military or even the zombies (altho they always freak me out) are fine, in my opinion. A giant creature is a cool idea too. But not mythical. Maybe just some huge mutant. I kinda like the idea of a roaming horde of enemies or a single large monster travelling the map. Especialy nights would become very creepy and full of terror that way :)
A lot of people have mentioned that some of these suggestions are already in some upcoming games. Someone talked about mythical creatures that are unique to Rust's world. I don't see why this wouldn't work. Like many people have said; they don't have to be dragons/fairies/trolls(we already have trolls). You could look at it as Rust's natural wildlife, whatever these "mythical" creatures might be. I think we got to keep in mind that all we really know about this game is that it's survival-horror. What ever is in the game right now should not influence your decision. However, that does seem to be this game's problem, it has no identity as of yet, which caused a lot of people to choose the military option because they felt fits the current state of the game. And on the mutant stuff, I feel that Nether already covers that. Maybe not exactly how most people think, but I feel it does.
Biggest problem I have with dinosaurs is that they won't be any different from wolves and bears are today. No threat from range and kiteable, even if they had a ton of health and superfast speed it won't make much of a difference. And yes I already know how superfast super high health dinosaurs are, got them on the UT2K4 server I develop and they're still useless if they had melee only so they shoot rockets and freakin lazorz etc from their mouths or have a gun mounted on their back. So unless gary wants to go with rocketlaunchers mounted on dinosaurs I wouldn't go with dinosaurs or any other melee only mobs. Edit: Dinosaurs aint original either, Turok says hi. So stop whining about original mobs, rather have good and fun mobs rather then useless "original" mobs that are already done in one way or another.
New NPC MUST be a game changer without being ridiculous IE Unicorn , T-REX Alpha Predator *Active early in the morning and at dusk *Limit of say 1 per 20 players at any one time *Once killed re-spawned next day at new random location (based on highest population of any given area) *No rare item received for killing (standard items ie animal fat ,chicken breast, leather) Possibly trophy item only Ie Tooth (however no use) *Runs 0.5% faster than players *slightly attracted to inventory's with gun powder, meat and Kevlar in them (would help keep things a little balanced) Rust is about survival after all Lion or tiger would be my suggestion 10 arrows to kill Requires 1 player per day to survive otherwise re spawn Lion around mountain area's tiger in open area's panther forest area's coastal areas = safe :)
How about little, green, very poisonous frogs - that are hard to shoot? More seriously, I think we need some creatures/enemies that are very dangerous. For now, on a lower pop server, there is no danger and even the mutant animals are easy to kill if you can make a shelter near them. I want the game to be harder/more dangerous. So you have fear of other players, but the others and you must be careful around certain types of mobs.
Военный или же динозавр было бы круто...
The more I play the game, the less I think it needs NPCs of any kind. Other players are sufficiently dangerous and far more interesting.
It will be very interesting if they do choose dinosaurs. What kind of weaponry will be needed to take down said dinosaurs? Will it mean more primitive weapons? Or higher tech weapons? Traps? AI so the dinosaurs can hunt and eat wild life while possibly being vulnerable whilst eating? Could dinosaurs become enraged and damage your building? This could bring us to a primitive style of RUST without all the M4s and bolt actions. I wouldn't think they would remove them maybe possibly making them EXTREMELY rare or harder to build. Mutant humans? May as well add back zombies and be done with it. Lets be honest how different can a "mutant human" be from the old zombies lol. Same with mutant military. Go play DAYZ if you want mutants/zombies imo. Robots just don't seem to work in a game with the most advanced tech being a gun. I honestly love the idea of dinosaurs and I like the idea of giant/mythical creatures. If i could vote twice i would be voting on them.
Military is dull and so predictable I hope it never gets implemented. I think this game has plenty of potential to stand out on its own. If you add military to it, its just going to be another clone its a very boring ideal and i don't understand why it has so many votes... my guess would be the COD generation blehhhhhhhhhhhh.
DINOSAURS!
I say Machines. Terminator-esque apocalyptic future. Make them have bases, etc and collection scouts that roam the map. If not, I REALLY want to see dinosaurs. It would fit so well with the atmosphere of the game. And running from a t-Rex beats a red bear any day. But if you kill them, do you still get chicken? Lol
Why do we have to pick one? Think about it, why not all of them? Just lower the drop rate. Small dinosaurs instead of rad bears, military in towns, giants/mythicals patroling mountain areas as random chance spawns, and aliens as super rare crash sites or something. Game also needs alot more foilage like that Rust/Forest picture.
It seems I need to post this every other page on this thread. :zoid: Dinosaurs are not being added, here is the quote from Garry as proof: (bolded for effect)
Yeah this goes without saying. We're not letting the community dictate what we do. We're feeling them out about stuff. The actual reason for that poll wasn't for them to decide whether military or dinosaurs should get added. It was to feel people out about something else on the list.
I'm guessing they wanted to test the water about "adding zombies back".
I'm guessing they wanted to test the water about "adding zombies back".
Judging by what Garry has said in the past I actually have my money on mythical creatures. Not unicorns and fairies and shit but giants and beasts and hardcore stuff.
Aww so rust ain't gonna be a B.C 1.0 ? I'm sure it will be modded lol
Would love to see some rare boss-level NPCs that wander around. The game's all about survival of the fittest until (the horde of zombies, the rampaging T-Rex, an alien ship from War of the Worlds, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man) shows up. Then the community bands together to take out the threat until near the end when they kill each other off to steal all the loot. This would also reward exploring the map more to find that rare boss NPC that spawned.
There definitely needs to be some kind of looming threat. Something that not only makes high value areas more difficult to loot, but should also blend in with the world you are trying to portray. These are my opinions on the options you've provided. Add Zombies Back: I can see why you removed them. At this point Zombies are over done and if you don't do them correctly they'll just become another video game cliche. And with there being no hint of a virus existing in this world that would transform humans into mindless ravenous creatures, it seems out of place. Mutant Animals: I'm assuming you mean something different from the Reds that are already available. If so this could be interesting. Creatures tougher than normal, with a grotesque appearance would allow for players to feel unsettled in certain areas as well as tread lightly. Mutant Humans: Same as mutant animals though I feel this is too similar to zombies, unless of course done correctly. Could be great if done right, but disastrous if done wrong. Dinosaurs: Strange how this is the highest voted of all the options. However it does allow for some creative freedom. Dinosaurs are very unique creatures and could make the world seem far more dangerous than it already is. However, what would tie Dinosaurs into a post-apocalyptic world? Robots: As it is, technologically there is nothing to suggest robots are even possible. Nothing the player crafts or even stumbles upon hints that robots are a possibility or a threat. If these are added, the world would need to be updated to reflect this. By making certain radiated towns have broken robotic parts to signify the beginning of a war that only continues now between the survivors and the robots who remain. Other Players: Is this the same as "Add Nothing"? I'm not sure I understand this. Would a player choose this team upon joining? And what would make them different from the others? Military: Being a post-apocalyptic world where the rad-towns are riddled with Rad-suits and military equipment, this seems to be the most logical of the choices. It would however make rad-towns far more dangerous to the point where you would likely need a team to infiltrate these locations for the loot rather than running in yourself. Which may be a good thing. Giants/Mythical Creatures: Only if Cthulu makes an appearance. Aliens: I'll compare this to the robots from earlier. Just because they seem to be on the same level of sci-fi in my opinion. That's my two-cents. Make of it what you will, I personally voted for Military. Also, from what I've played so far I feel what ever is decided that Rust would do well to put emphasis on atmosphere and creativity.
Dinosaurs: Strange how this is the highest voted of all the options.
I'm pretty sure it's just because of "LOL DINOSARS!" I'm glad that Garry wasn't actually asking for ideas. I'd imagine the personal value of creating something like Rust would be rather diminished if it wasn't what I actually wanted to do, but instead what the general population wants you to do.
Especially when the general population doesn't know jack squat about what they want.
I have seen demands for the old webplayer version of Rust back, you know, when VAC couldn't work, so there was no anti-cheat at all, and you could speedhack and fly with Cheat Engine with basically no consequences unless a dev caught you and manually permabanned your account off of playrust.com (which meant you couldn't even get to the game anymore). The webplayer version that required you to install Opera if you wanted proper hardware acceleration, which meant that almost everyone was forced to install a browser they didn't use, or lag to shit forever. The webplayer version that required you to redownload it every time. The webplayer version that painted the world blood red every sunset and sunrise as the sun began to shine for the day cycle, but was below the terrain. It's safe to say that what they really wanted was a return to the time when Rust's playerbase was ~13,000 keys in the wild, 75% of which were gathering dust from hoarders and people who thought Rust was a late-beta because they knew nothing but what the hype train told them, and then were mightily disappointed when their efforts to beg, bribe, and cybersex a Rust key gave them access to a broken, laggy early-alpha prototype that only ran in web browsers. Unless someone invents a time machine, that's not happening.

It might be enough to put all of these creatures, but at different places on the map. In an abandoned farm, a family of mutant degenerate. In a secret base, military (perhaps with experimental robot), in wooded landscapes, or jungle, dinosaurs, destroyed in bases or cemetery, Zombie. It could also be creatures of modern mythology as the yeti in the mountains, the forests in bigfoot, chupacabra in a broken car, a Nessy in a lake. Obviously, it would take a very strong each case, hard to kill, but not repoping. It could even be a random decorates that appear every 2 or 3 hours with a UFO, which break and could be visited. Each creatures would be more or less hard to kill. The mutant would be easy, but many, the military would have modern weapons, modern mythological creatures would be hard to kill but alone, etc.. you can put all creatures, as they are updated with parsimony, for example 25% dinausore / mutant 15% / 10% military (+5% robot) / Zombie 5%, 5% modern mythological creature, 34 % of Basic Animal and 1% UFO. In the map. There could be many creature of the same race, but one place on the map.
Cannibals, cannibals, cannibals... It should have been cannibals, but The Forest got there first. Too bad.
For those who voted military, why did you vote it? I can't really see military fitting into Rust without it being so jarring that it's out of place.
