• What should replace zombies?
The only reason enemies drop those right now is to make them available somehow. All of this can change totally. Enemies could drop absolutely nothing and everything has to be scavenged or crafted or harvested. You're playing a sandbox, I hope you realize.
Yes, sandbox! How did I forget?! Sorry, just a little sarcasm because it's repeated so often. You are right though, that can definitely change, but the topic of how that would change wasn't discussed. I suppose when the question is "what should replace AI animals?" I assumed (maybe, falsely) that they are expected to provide a similar role/function. So, let's get on a bit of a tangent here: if the AI change, whatever they may be, mythical or what not (who cares, let's put it all in ;] why not, sandbox!), how does technology become available to players?
Tribes/natives all the way
how does technology become available to players?
Eliminate all blueprints, have everyone be capable of crafting any recipe if they have the materials, make the materials things you scavenge from ruins or harvest/mine or what-have-you. I mean, you don't need an industrial factory to make this: [t]http://files.facepunch.com/garry/2014/June/05/1401995078.png[/t] or [t]http://files.facepunch.com/garry/2014/May/23/1400858786.jpg[/t] Leather and fur can be harvested from animals unless all suitable beast-type creatures get removed and Rust is now about fighting back against the robots that took over or something. That's just one alternative option to the way things are currently.
I tend to agree. Some guts, we make a further or gourd. A little skin, it is a coat or jerkin, some scratches are made jewelry. And the bones can even make tools or weapons. Now, if I defend all the mythological creatures (bigfoot, yeti, giant carnivorous plant etc) is really to give a lot of variety in the game is always more fun wearing a fur coat or giant lizard that chupacabra a simple coat traditional bearskin ... In addition to the IA of this kind of creature will be really much more mysterious. Bigfoot can be programmed in this way: Reactions noise but do not attack, following the sound of a short distance away, attack when too loud noise may scare him. Yeti: very protective of his land, he attacks if a player stays longer than 10 minutes on its territory. Chupacabra: Always in packs, they attack if they outnumber the players, or a player with him to an animal (horse, dog, etc.), they always kill the pet first. Otherwise, they revolve around the players a time. Giant carnivorous plant: a plant like looting, attack a player is in his worn. They could be spit acid on a small length. Mothman: Always alone, he attacks players or any creature who is injured at 20% of its total hit points. He always surprise attack. Ufo: They could be an event, a crashed ship that remain a few hours (maybe 24 hours?) Before the UFO manage to do again. This could happen randomly once in a month! [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] Obviously, there are so many different creatures that - they are a small example of how they might react.
Practically, what I understand is this: do we keep it realistic or add fantasy? If we keep it realistic then maybe we should leave it like that. Of course, animals must be added for food. If we want to make it a fantasy/unrealistic game then we can add all of them. I would prefer to keep it real and I think that other players are worst than everything.
Totally agree! Now it would be really nice teeth monsters are money! This will give a truly innovative side in the game Over the monster is more strong tooth gives a high value. Human tooth = $ 1 Tooth mutant = $ 2 Bear tooth = 3 dollars Yeti or bigfoot tooth = $ 5 velociraptor tooth = $ 5 T-Rex tooth = $ 100. etc.. In fact teeth WOULD money!
This sounds brilliant I really do support this idea. A currency from teeth from various creatures sounds amazing!
^ Why does Rust need a currency? Players already trade and barter goods/materials. A currency would be worthless without a banking system and some way of enforcing the currency's value. "You say a T-Rex tooth is worth $100? Great. Now hand over your loot or I'll shoot you in the face with my Pipe Shotgun" :) That's the kind of currency that Rust is based upon.
The idea of currency being invented sounds really dumb to me. Currency is only worth anything if it represents something else. In our world, our money represents gold. In Rust, our money would be... Teeth? Come on, trading is way better than that, and you don't have people constantly driving the price up on things because of artificial inflation.
They have some monster concepts on Trello. It looks like a potato fresh out of the ground with teeth and legs.
Rust is a survival game and should stay a survival game. As for what should replace zombies? I put forward a new idea. How about real weather? and seasons? Winter - With snow, rain and flooding ect. making food hard to get and animals more scarce. Now rivers/in land water are being implemented, this would add a whole new dimension to moving around the map. Summer - Better weather. with more animals ect to hunt. and if they implement farming? this would fit in nicely. I have to say i do like the idea that rust moves away from the M4, Mp5 ect into purely "junk" created weapons ect. possibly with the odd one or two modern guns being found in a bunker or hanger type scenario.

Whereas if they keep a money like dollars etc, everyone will necessarily him. The important thing is that there is not all the time, and that it does not cross its modern mythological creatures all the time! Meet a Bigfoot, a mohtman or other fantastic creatures should remain truly exceptional. And kill even more exceptional and unique! In fact, it would be like in real life, is that they exist is? yes, no? A player says he saw a UFO (or yeti etc) but no one else saw the. Maybe he's crazy? Or maybe not ...
Rust needs BitCoins. :suicide:
Anyway this post is not about money but creatures. :p And I say YES to more varied creatures!
The Rad Wolves and animals are doing fine. don't see why we have to change it
I think it would be cool for there to be some night time event that forces people to be inside, with some lingering dangers in daytime, particularly in darkness or far from more densely populated areas. I think it would encourage teamwork by creating a common enemy. It would also discourage raiding in darkness. It could also encourage people to stick together, because the dangers of leaving the group are too great. A possible idea would be a very large creature that comes from an ocean or flys in to an area. Beatable, but requires teamwork. It would also have smaller, minion like creatures that would flow off it, or emerge from around it and disperse to a certain distance to act as a buffer and also cause an annoyance to people living nearby. Maybe several sizes of these, some able to be out during the day. Special events, such as eclipse or new moons, could trigger events. As well as dangers in caves, dense forests, or unlit buildings. Maybe creatures specific to each area, and special attributes applied depending on events. creatures could drop materials to construct items, which you could pick up. Alternately, you could be presented with an option to learn something from the creature. Such as: how to craft an item, learn to craft quicker, learn to burn food less. Perhaps by consuming the creature, but you'd have some negative effects from it, like needing to consume medicine, or temporary insanity of some sort.
I think it will be cool if they add some other "normal" animals like snakes(not strong but poisonous), sharks (for water :) ) and eventually Lion, panther, etc.. If the generated map has different zones (climate). This will be very nice :) And if they want to have this mutant stuff then they should only add different versions of this animals like the red bear/wolfs. Personally, I find the idea of mystical creatures or military not good. Mystical creatures (or dinosaur) do not fit into the concept. And military .... are these then also naked? Think it would be too weird if you start naked but the opponents are fully equipped and armed.
The Rad Wolves and animals are doing fine. don't see why we have to change it
Because after 500, 600, 700 hours of play, we are bored to kill as radioactive wolves, bears radioactive ... And I like the diversity, especially for creatures that can kill you! A greater variety of creature gives more challenge and discovery! Now, even if there is no mythological or exotic creature, that programmers already gives them a better AI! Wolf that wanders in packs, which act as true predators. But also, perhaps mini boss in their pack. A large black wolf, a huge bear, or a mutated creature between wolves and bears! The creatures establish hunting techniques to kill players. Especially!! No wolf walk around with bear joyfully holding the legs ...

It's a concept that works very well in The Forest and also 7 Days To Die. Personally, as I've said a billion times already, I think they should have gone with cannibals (taking inspiration from Cormack McCarthy's book, 'The Road'), but The Forest got there first. So tough luck on that front. Whatever the choice, I think it needs to be something with an element of 'horror' - i.e. something players should be 'afraid' of. I used to spend a lot of time wandering the outer reaches of the map, just for LULZ, and I never felt any sense of danger when doing so... the environment itself just isn't threatening. So whatever the NPC monsters do end up being, my only request is that they're something I'd be inclined to run away from. And ideally screaming whilst I do so ;-) And they don't need to drop loot. Other players, airdrops, crates, etc, fulfill that role just fine. The NPC monsters just need to function as being a credible threat. Something to wipe the smiles from the faces of players when they reach the top of the food chain, Kelvar armour and MP4s or not.

In the end, regardless of the creature, as the atmosphere is well made, with an atmosphere of fear, which forces you to flee rather than fight! To this I say BRAVO SKOL! (After this is true, I personally like a lot of creature and discover fauna and flora varied. Where I tell myself. "THIN, WHAT IS THIS CREATURE HOW I DO FOR THE KILL HIM OR ESCAPE ? "
fffffffffffffffff
There is no option for bigger animals. Mutant Animals doesnt mean hippos and rhinos. Rhinos could be very string badass enemys like elephants.
Dinosaurs is winning! If Rust gets huge T-rex's, I will seriously purchase it (I haven't played it yet).
the most dangerous creatures! :p
Say its really change, not kill THAT the basic animals. But here the monsters it does not really need they add. It touerait us all!
What.

However, more dangers can appear at night. Like certain hostile animals only appear at night. Or the mutants get stronger and faster at night. What do you guys think?
Dinosaurs is similar to The Stomping land. Either add Zombies back or go for military+robots.
What.
sorry, I said that the Kukrapok. And the man bear pig enemies who would kill all players! Some creatures are necessarily smaller, as compared to others. But above all, sequi would be really nice is that all creatures can attack each other. For example dinosaurs attack all creatures they encounter. The bigfoot, attacks deer, wild boar etc. Military, only players and creatures too prochent their camp. Mothman only creatures on their territory etc.. [editline]11th June 2014[/editline] other ideas modern mythical creatures. Mythological creatures are really starting to grow on me because it could really benefit the game and be a fun experience.
alligators are dinosaurs
les alligators sont des descendants des dinosaures. Quelques autres légendes moderne Wendigo Léviathan [editline]12th June 2014[/editline] It is important to note that in the legend of the Wendigo, whoever eats Wendigo becomes a Wendigo. It would be fun if a player eat its meat or wears his skin, he is poisoned. If not cured if before dying, the player becomes a Wendigo (IA) and starts attacking other players.
How about all of them to some extent? [editline]12th June 2014[/editline] I wouldn't know what to vote.. Robots are cool, Mutants are cool, Giants are cool, Aliens are cool..
