How about all of them to some extent?

I wouldn't know what to vote.. Robots are cool, Mutants are cool, Giants are cool, Aliens are cool..
Is what I said in my previous posts. You can put all to some extent, with their well-defined territories, and their line of code that are their own. (See earlier post)

Another idea compared to a creature to what I thought. Still in the carnivorous plant. Plants that appear only at night and are slightly bright (dark green). Thus, they give a fairly mysterious atmosphere ... But they could also be very aggressive if they walked on. They could for example send electric shock!

I called Spinevolt! (Is not mine drawing , but the plant would be much like that.)
Stranded people / survivors.
They are always around but come out more at night and hunt. They'll hunt the wild animals, other players, anything they can find for food / supplies.
Being stuck on the island with all the background radiation has addled their minds. They can use basic tools / weapons such as hatchets and bows / arrows, as well as wear any clothing they find, but the more complex weapons / equipment confounds them. So they will loot basic items / food / clothing from players they kill, but leave guns and other more advanced items where they are.
They take up residence in shacks / structures without doors when they aren't out hunting, making taking over an empty shack more challenging. This version of the human survivor could also place traps around the map to catch animals / players. Adding an element of danger to the map during the day and keeping you on your toes. Also adds a real risk element to just sprinting anywhere and make the whole thing feel a bit more survivalist.
Pockets of more mutated / feral humans around the radioactive areas, these will only use melee weapons and will sprint at anyone they see come close and savage them. These survivors have a pack mentality and will call out to the pack when they see prey. The noise attracts other nearby Irradiated Survivors and they all join the hunt.
Each large pocket of Irradiated Humans could have one "Alpha" (A human that has been there so long that they have mutated grotesquely). This could be a much larger (giant-ish) disfigured human that would be a real bitch to take down so might take a few people to clear them. They also call out to a wider area, bringing more Irradiated Humans to the fight. But the loot the Alphas would protect would be of higher value than standard loot.
Just another idea to add to the many already on here. I quite like the idea that they could have domesticated / trained animals to work for them, and that the Irradiated Humans will have Rad Wolves with them too to add to the whole feral feel to it.
Zeb
maybe keep the rad animals. and upgrade their AI. such as them using team work, getting more aggressive when cornened, and maybe make Shooting them attract more Rad Animals, so people have to think twice before gunning them down.
My opinion is the mutant animals are good we just need more of a variety of them and Zombies/mutant humans are just players that died from too much radiation or died at a radiation hotspot. It'll make looting the towns more exciting. Yeah I voted for bringing back zombies.
This is hard, because you've said you don't like the idea of mutated humans, perhaps mutated military? That would be kinda cool. Like they were sent in to contain this area, and were mutated as a result. I honestly think that's best, and it fits with the radiation. You could also use this for bandit camps. If you ever planned to make a way to offer an expanded map, that utilized more of the map, for larger servers, you could have either bandits, or mutated military set up with little mini tented camps up north, perhaps with like a radiation containment tank nearby, broken open.
To be honest, I agree with this. Mutant military WOULD be pretty cool. Or Dinosaurs, that was also a good idea.
I believe that I have an excellent idea for what could be lurking in the woods at night. ONLY at night. As soon as night comes, a wendigo should be spawned in and will despawn at sunrise. If a player was to kill it, they have the chance to obtain an object of high value. It should be a hard-to-kill boss-type creature that spawns at night.
It could look like any of these:

This idea has already been proposed, creatures that apparaisent occasionally at night, or even event. (Den that opens releasing strange animals, UFO crashing and leaves, egg that hatched.) The idea is to offer a unique monster to kill per month. But we must first find and then kill a group.
The unlucky who falls on him alone ...

In EVERY game, there is the traditional but still impressive GIANT CRAB!
And as a bonus the giant jellyfish, which could be very nice RUST.
To be honest, I agree with this. Mutant military WOULD be pretty cool.
I don't mean to be mean, but mutant military is boring as hell and has been done to death in sooo many other games. Military in general is just a tired, uninspiring concept.
Much of the creature design will, I assume, be determined by whatever 'lore' the developers decide to create around Rust. As far as I can tell, this can only really be one of two scenarios:
1) A post-apocalyptic Earth: either resulting from a devastating nuclear war (yawn, done that); some kind of virus outbreak (done that too); perhaps a tear in the 'fabric of reality' (akin to Doom) or another catastrophic event that turns our friendly old world into a place of barbaric savagery, nightmarish monsters and chicken-only diets (helluva trouble with constipation).
Or...
2) An alien world Perhaps a place where abuducted humans are dumped by aliens, once they've been anally-probed; or a planet on which a colony ship has crashed; or whatever.
The decision taken by the devs to explore primitive weapons and firearms suggests that the 'lore' will have some basis in reality (rather than pure fantasy, like say Skyrim), which means that it can really only be one of the two above scenarios.
At least that's how I see it.
The 'monsters' will surely just be created to fit within whichever context is decided upon.
But I damn well hope they're NOT military, because that would be a megatonne of suckage.

There may be many varied history. Humans can be placed on the islands, and only survivors are recovered later. Because they showed that they were a very enduring species, very suitable. Maybe an alien race causes human to survive a war elsewhere ...
This is hard, because you've said you don't like the idea of mutated humans, perhaps mutated military?
If not already suggested, please make drop pilots mutated zombies. Maybe you can down the helicopter and release a dozen gun wielding zombies.
I want there to be a bit more variety to whatever most commonly occurring pve you encounter. E.I. zombie, red animal, mutant environment.... But I do not want variety to be occurring commonly.
For variety, should not be limited to zombies. A wider range of creature would be more fun and would be harder to kill because they all react differently.
Having dino's is probably the worst idea. Ever.
Animal and human mutants are best decision. There are too much zombies in games.
Animal and human mutants are best decision. There are too much zombies in games.
Whether zombies, military or dinos, in games we see them all the time. And perhaps too often.
This is why modern mythological creatures would be much more innovative in terms of game and hunting. After that, there could be a small part of the map where there are soldiers and zombies. Just a little.
What about the monsters of the Stone Age

An MEGALODON easter egg like BF4? hahaha
Just imagine, you and your friends are cooking over the fireplace at night. When all of a sudden, off in the distance you hear rustling. Out of nowhere comes a group of CHIMPS!
Would be funny if they could crawl through windows and steal stuff out of your crates. lol

Just a sample of all the beasts that may roam the forgotten lands of Rust island!
i think there should be robots because there could be a story behind it like there is a computer under the ground that is making clones so that is why we all look the same and the air-drops and coming over the island because of a signal coming from the computer. There also could be a plane that drops robots to try and wipe out the computer and whatever the robots come across they annihilat
why not. A blob.
There would be two different ways. Either it would cover a player in full, the blob start by destroying the objects that the players door and after inflicting damage on the player. Obviously, once the blob to destroy all objects, the players found "naked ass".
Or second solution, a blob is a predatory creature, hunting and players into their home. A blob does not need to destroy the houses to get into it, it passes between the small openings and directly attack the players. If he kills a player in a house, the blob takes to be lived and then either kill him, or wait until the house is destroyed by itself to leave the blob.

(the movies oblivion.)
Or rather, when players come too near a place where there is a computer, a modern camp, the aircraft can arrive and dropping robots. This release would be achieved after 3 to 5 minutes.
when do you think?
[editline]15th June 2014[/editline]
Why not Grimlins, legend of the first aviator who thought that a creature could take their aircraft in flight.
If players can have parachutes fly the grimlins have a small chance to attack. However, not every time.

The grimlins could also bring down the refueling aircraft for the players. Maybe once a month? or not at all? And the carcass of the plane is on the ground would be infested Grimlins.

Seeing as dinos have the lead I dont see why animals closer to our era could exist on some remote island, forgotten by time.
The problem is that Rust is a survival game, it does not need any more than Rust becomes Safarie ... This is why animals out of the ordinary or mythological would be more fun and less mundane .
Safari is when you go on a hike/jeep drive and look at the animals around you. Survival is being thrown into the wilderness and having to get by. Too many mythological and you turn this into Skyrim/Terraria. I'd be fine with Sabre cats or mammoths.
Seeing as dinos have the lead I dont see why animals closer to our era could exist on some remote island, forgotten by time.
Say, I'm not particularly too old for creatures like minotaurs, centaurs etc.. But the more mythological creatures present. (Grimlins, yeti, bigfoot, giant etc. Octopus) creatures which some believe they exist and others do not. Creatures more contemporary.
After the dinos, I'm not a big fan, and therefore the same for most prehistoric creatures.
I prefer a safari with creatures that I've never seen that animals that I see every day on TV, the zoo etc. ...
Giants and mammoths would be cool. There should be animations where they grab you and bite you. There should be different kinds of giants and one should throw boulders at you
MUTANTS HUMANS
that will be the best idea. they appear at night, but at day they will be on rad towns, caves, somewhere without light.
So you do whatever you want at day, but if you go outside at night, look out, they will follow you.
Savages or military npc's. Maybe a bigger variety of animals. Dinosaurs is a funny answer but kinda far fetched ain't it?
