To be honest, I think a mix of some of these would suit the game well. Think about it. Mythical creatures and mutants in the woods and sea, military and robots in the industrial areas or maybe outside would make for a nice mix of enemies almost Fallout style, except the human characters are instead other players and without the 1950s theme.
And please god no Dinosaurs, I understand how cool they are and how cool it would be to have in a game, but to be honest I don't think they would make for that great of gameplay. At most I would like some Dinosaur-like mutants.

Oh hell yeah, the Jersey devil would do well in a game like this.
Mutants + Military + Natives + Extreme animals like above that can actively hunt you as well rather than just aggro range.
Looks like dinosaurs wins. I don't see why not. Also get rid of the fully tact up guns. Make more guns like the pipe shotgun and such, it keeps the game balanced and in theme.
+1 to the tacted guns, which does contradict my support for military but I get the dinosaur side of things, make shift weapons would be insane.
Rubber glove gun? Tell me you never stole your mums wash gloves when you were a kid and made one of these to shoot sisters and cats with ...

Aaaahh ok, it is the Jersey Devil! In the American legends, it is in another form.
The Aswang :
This creature could think of a dead player in the game, it would look like a dead player. Especially near water or pond. And a player (living) is approaching, the Aswang, attack and pulls in water to drown the player!

Rust is not an horror game so all those things dont't fit in the theme
Adding military would be really hard. Because then developers would have to add dialogue, a way to communicate with them and some sort of "story" to do with them. It'll be hard to perfect that but if they get it right it would be great! (I voted for mutant animals because I feel like you could do alot with that)
I posted earlier that they should have C.H.U.D's (Canabalistic humanoid underground dwellers) from an old movie. I think the movie premise was that New York City was disposing of toxic waste below the city and the homeless were getting mutated by it and killing people.
Anyway I was joking at first. But creatures like this might fit the bill. Humans mutated by radiation. They live underground. The game will be implementing caves so this could be where they live. Perhaps tribes spawn randomly in caves around the island. They are active in the surrounding area stalking you and other resources. If you find their cave you can wipe them out so they respawn elsewhere. If you go cave exploring or want to occupy a cave you may have to deal with them. They could be canibals so after you kill another player you might have to fight off a bunch of them to claim the corpse and loot.
Also maybe given their underground nature they could be tunnelers poping up places. I don't think you would want players to be able to access these small tunnels though. But if you were in a field gathering resources and all the sudden turned around to a few of them 15 feet away it would be pretty creepy.
I like the idea of a mix of creatures on the island. Preferably ones that live in the biomes that are being created (Mountains, forests, beach's, caves etc). Also some creatures should be nocturnal, like Cougars in trees at night or something.
Rust is not an horror game so all those things dont't fit in the theme
Indeed, Rust is not a horror game. BUT, apart from the military, which are the disont, the so banal enemies and they either are not in the theme of survival. All monsters, mutant cannibals, etc.. Are still paid in horror, or at least the terrifying.
After that, I agree with you! You just have to place the creatures in the right place at the right time especially. A touch of horror, here and there, but not all the time.
GUYS! I Know what monsters we need!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHH KILL IT!!!
I'm sticking with dinosaurs, anyone who doesn't thinks that dinosaurs would ruin rust clearly hasn't seen howies artwork.
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1395877
I honestly don't care if the stomping lands has dinosaurs, the games have very little in common and there is more potential for dinosaurs, or other large mutant creatures in general, then there are for any other suggestion. If implemented right, dinosaurs would reinforce the atmosphere and theme of rust rather than destroy it.
I don't think Dinos are the thing for Rust .. as .. the game is set millions of years after they died .. how did they suddenly resurfaced??
I would like to see some AI military with deforms that have been left behind .. mutated animals ..
Mutated animals would be aggressive if threatened during daytime .. but very aggressive during nighttime! They should give out sounds in distance, but rather go into more stealth hunting mode as they approach! Sounds would be loud, weary from a distance, and then more silently but where you CAN hear breaking of branches or splashes from water ( if pools will be implanted ) when they tries to stealth approach you.
Military personal should have guns, but not the best aim, but still lethal enough to kill you. Drops should go more into humanoids -> guns, armor, medz, nades and so on ... animal, fur/skin, raw food.
It should IMO change drops to stick on what you kill .. All animals, Rad or normal animals should not drop weapons, BP and such ( They still haven't developed pockets ), only fur, fat and raw food ... where humanoids would drop all this other things. Crates would still have what they have!
The tatzelwurm
A kind of cat snake, quite old German legend. This creature is hidden in the trees and waited farmer go to attack farm animals.
It could hide in the shadows and attack pets if a player shot him, the tatzelwurm attack players.

The closest garry should come to dinosaurs should be komodo dragons, crocodiles, chickens and possibly a megalodon.
Hello everybody, I've read some of posts and when i was sitting on toilet and thinking, I got these ideas. Dinosaurs wouldn't fit at at all because they basically are tropical animals and they don't like to live in medium climate and radiated places. Military/Mutant military doesn't fit too because to much cs style and regular players already look like terrorists :D. My idea is modified simple (civilian humans) zombies/mutants. What do i mean by "modified" , i mean not dead ones who walks and eats you and are rotten, slow, and so on, i mean deadly assassins mutants they hide from you, they attack you rather in night and in day they prefer following, in radiated areas they are stronger and more monstress, aggressive and ugly. And they attack when you are not expecting, their bodies are splitted and eyes are black, sometimes they look like normal human (player) just acting strange, and when u shoot it or get close enough it attacks you. It's attack adds some radiation and infects you with it's virus and you get damage if you die from infection your body becomes another monster but you can re-spawn normally. Also they don't like light sources they don't orientate good in light. I think such monsters would add some horror and inconvenience effect, don't let you feel safe and make you to be alert most off the time, make people co-operate more instead of fighting and build larger camps/towns. These humanoid monsters are called rogues. I hope you will like my idea, thanks for reading and sorry for writing so extended. :)
They should add something like a Chimera from STALKER.

Or a Burer from Stalker. Or some kind of Ewok type creature.

Why not dogs that have mutated with radiation, simple but still effective. Dog mutated a little Cerberus.

It would be really nice to get a puppy Cerberus! This type of dog hunt down all the time the players he chases. The only way to get rid of and kill ...
Dinosaurs is the best
Perhaps something like Minecraft? Zombies come out of player corpses,Mutated Spiders hang around Rad zones at night but are neutral during day due to being blinded by sunlight? Skeletons reanimate from dead animals that haven't been farmed etc.
Not sure if it would work out or not but I was just curious to see others reactions to this post.
The grinch : he could steal items to players, backpacks, food, or weapons and store them somewhere.
As a Grinch is not killed, it accumulates small objects. It must be hard to kill, bright and fast. For the player who kills recover all the objects that the Grinch in on him!

The Grinch.
The closest garry should come to dinosaurs should be komodo dragons, crocodiles, chickens and possibly a megalodon.
Its quite a jump to go from a chicken to a prehistoric marine predator the size of a double decker bus
Please people, spare us from all this fantasy mumbo jumbo.
The Ahuizotl:
Aztec legend, he could walk on water, and run small boat or take a downright players under water.
Obviously, it would go unnoticed under water and in his first attack, he did serve as his hand tail. It would be difficult looting something about it since it would sink to the bottom of the water. But the brave might find his lair and discover perhaps a nest with interesting objects!

If the mutant animals would be worked out way better it would actually be a very decent choice, nothing spectacular, but very decent.
If you would put zombies back or add robots, dinosaurs, giants or aliens it would throw this game over 9000 degrees into the wrong direction.
I am not even going to waste words on "other players". Woops!
So we have left : Mutant humans and military
Now when I hear mutant humans, I hear zombies, which we dont want, doenst fit rust anymore I think. But it does own a very interesting aspect, as these humans got here and got mutated. But we dont want them to be like zombies!? So what about having these humans dress up like military men, who got here to save us, but got changed? Although we cant let them change into zombies! So imagine military men that come to an island and get infected by the virus, and for some reason the indiginous people (Us the players) are resistant to it, and the military men are "banditized". They become some sort of savages, lurking around, in small groups, with gear and all military stuff they have, but then acting like wildlings. Still bound to life like humans, but their behaviour changed, perhaps with different levels of intensity. They would be decently distinguished because of their armor and gear, looking like soldiers, maybe a bit torn to pieces to make the savage infected look come out some more.
You could even make them dance around campfires like cavemen! You could have them patrol like soldiers, place them in camps and what not!
And please, keep the wildlife aspect of this game high too. I think its amazing that at some places you feel safe gathering recources and killing a pig, and the next you get hunted by a wolf or bear or whatever. Even when you dont have others hunting you, the island of rust is still a dangerous place!

When you pass next to your pets 'wild' in a gun danger will be destroyed ... The game will quickly become tiresome ...
We need bigger creatures, meaner and more particularly vicious. Creatures that attack out of the shadows, hiding in the marshes in the sand etc..
Very large or very dificult to kill creature.
Mutant Humans would be killer.
I hope they only spawn where da rads are doe
Me. I should replace zombies.
The Uktena:
Native American legend, a very aggressive snake horn! The North American Indians drew in their cave.
In Rust, it could roam the high grass or in trees and attacked players by surprise. Three differently. Uktena either by sending them a horn player propelling several meters. Either he bite so repeat (main attack). Let it capture players with rings (like a boa constructor, moderate damage), at that time other players must save the one who is captured!
