I love how people keep saying "let's be realistic". It's a video game FFS. If you want survival realism, go to Ukraine right now and put on some riot gear...
I think that regardless of what you decide to implement, That you should give us a reason to be scared of night. As it currently is, I take that time to gather materials because I can't see, and I know the other guy can't see. Give us a reason to be scared to go at night. Nothing else happens besides the occasional bandit raid. Give us a reason not to just gather materials or alt+tab in our homes. Something that we need to watch out for. I think cryptids or mythical animals would work best in Rust currently. Military just wouldn't make sense. Why would they even be on the island when it's obvious everyone else is gone and it's been irradiated?
casual gamers.
I voted MAnimals, but it would make sense to have MHumans as well.
For the record, when I say mutant, i don't mean just red/colored of the same model.
I want to see MHumans with multiple heads, that run on their hands or w/e, those awesome chickens, those awesome deer, MHumans that throw up radiation on you, etc, etc.
But Garry I will love w/e you choose.
ooga booga tribesmen
for a kinda lord of flies feel.
I created an account so I could post here heh.
@Garry It seems to me the game comes across as something stuck in the middle of two worlds that don't necessarily make sense. Cavemen/post apocalyptic survival is kind of a strange mix. In it's current format, nothing in the poll really makes sense. Is your intention to keep the guns or remove them? What is in the game that is not a placeholder?? I love playing but can't shake the feeling that I am straddling two different worlds while paying.
The way it is now military is the easy fit with humanoid mutants being I guess the next easiest fit. But really both of those ideas are so well played out. But if you add dinos with the radiation and the military weapons and air drops it will just lead to further that feeling of "two worlds" I mentioned above.
You could easily go military, mutants(humans/animals), and I am sure you will make it a great game, since atm it already is a lot of fun. But from your "fucking boring " remark I get the feeling this really does not appeal to you and frankly after reading here, doesn't appeal to a lot of people.
I would like to cast my vote for something that is not on the list(I think, other players maybe??) but has been mentioned by others here but would like to elaborate with some reasoning.
That would be a vote for getting rid of all rad, towns, drops and going full out caveman survival. I am sure something creative can be thought of to replace air drops as random high value loot for players to fight over. Replace the towns with villages either friendly or not(creative decision) and roaming hunter(s) that will also "defend" territory. Throw in some big dinos for fear factor and maybe only killable by a small group effort.
Drawbacks:
*You loose the "tech" and faster pace of firing with more modern weapons.
*I honestly can't think of another if air drops are replaced somehow.
Benefits:
*Caveman survival like this has never been done...zombies, military, mutants....all over done.
*Let the hilarity ensue, with cavemen you can get really creative with clothing, weapons all kinds of things that can add to the hilarity, which we know you have a sense of humor...use it.
*Huge creative freedom with items, who says your cavemen cant discover better bow types, crossbows, ridiculous looking multi-shot crossbows, slings ,the list of ranged non firearm weapons is huge and the creative freedom once again is endless, versus pipe shotgun(creative freedom) to m4(no freedom), the entire weapon range can be played with. You go modern your stuck with certain "molds".
If I can add more points I will update but at this time RL is interrupting, please consider the amount of artistic freedom you can have going this route and make this game even more unique.
Ace
**edit A lot of people believe that this planet was visited by aliens in our ancient past...what about replacing the air drops with alien ships taking pity on the primitives??
Can't believe military is winning :(
How fucking boring.
I hope you see this as inspiration, not as "what to do", people often don't know what they really want.
Giants would be sooo cool. really.
i would love more difficult enemies. There should spawn strong creatures terrorizing the whole server till they team up to kill em.
tribesmen droppin m4 blueprints? haha...
but another good idea i think.
@lapsus gratz! 6666 posts. extra satanic.
Alright Dino's has finally taken the lead. I can start breathing again. Back to your lives citizens.
Why not adding military and mutant animals and mutant humans because that fits to the radiation make the game to an horror survival like STALKER or an jurasic parc game
pls lawd giants
pls lawd giants
of course, there were giant dinosaurs.. so i feel like giants/mythical creatures and dinosaurs are very similar thoughts in the poll
Man all the imaginative things get half the votes.
Dino's or Military both fit the spot, it would just make the game 10* more interesting.
I know many disagree, but for Rust (for me), the less supernatural the better. I agree we need increased threats within the environment, but I'd rather see an increase of non-mutant wildlife (snakes? cougars?) and keep the challenges more plausible. Also, more environmental challenge.
Quick ideas that haven't been thought through:
Weather (Thunderstorms? Tornadoes? Sandstorm in the Wastelands? Snow/Ice storms in the far North and/or South?)
Geological - and the wildlife would change was well (Rivers to bridge, Lakes to cross, Marshes to travel through--quicksand traps?).
Long story short, more, real, life-threatening wildlife and increased geological variation. I realize landscape stuff isn't a cure for passing out goodies. But if we have raw resources allotted appropriately, I don't need airdrops or loot from zombies/mutants/whatever.
now i will brace myself for the Dumbs.
i hate the idea of dinosaurs with that other game coming out (won't mention). as someone else mentioned, i'm quite saddened that the crew doesn't have something in mind already.
whatever you choose, i like the idea of only dropping bp's of higher tiered weapons/items and increasing difficulty between packs of npc's. farming them should be a challenge and you should have a real risk when attempting to farm the most difficult area(s) on the map.
I like the dinosaurs idea if the game is kept in that context. But whats the point in having guns and fighting dinosaurs?
I dont like imaginary stuff
Military dinosaurs?

stomping land?
I figure if there are dinosaurs, it would be due to a certain science experiment gone wrong. There could still be a military presence, and this would make sense to happen on an island. Maybe we were the scientists.
My only question would be why they were airdropping instead of evacuating, unless the island is under quarantine for some reason.
Add other cool shit aftering getting military in.
Military just fits in the slot the zombies used to fill.
Adding cool shit to fit into new slots would be the next step.
In other words, replacing a placeholder of a placeholder with a placeholder?
WHY.
Please be legit... NO WAY WILL I EVER PLAY WITH DINOSAURS!
Also I dont want this being Stomping Land and all if I wanted to play Stomping Land I would go there...
Giant insect? Praying mantis... giant rino beetle that could be ridden into combat. Centapides. Flying wasps. Legions of army ants. Ok...that's my 2 cents.
Voting for Mutated Military Dino Robots from Space... with Tribal culture
Personally mutated human AI would probably be the best way to go...
This probably should have been a multiple options poll, because I know better what I sure as hell don't want than of all these possibilities which I think is absolutely the best choice.
Mutated Military - Split into groups of Melee(Acts kinda like zombies easy to kill clothes but no armor), Heavy Melee (Again, like the slow zombies but a little slower than Melee, not as slow as the old zombie, but with body armor), and Ranged(A military unit with a pistol that shoots from a range while fighting off the two melee classes).
Just suggestions (I voted military just throwing out ideas)
Giant/mythical creatues for sure
Military is boring
Stomping land got dinos
DayZ got zombies
The forest got tribesmen
Would be really awesome If there was a bunch of different creatures. Maybe even take things from tales, Hans and Gretel for an example. Theres a witch living deep inside of a forest in a house made out of candy. Demons would also be pretty cool. Werewolfs etc I dont want 1 thing to kill me I want 50 scary as creatures to.
Whatever it is, make it hard to kill. The current bears and dogs are a snoozefest.
I can't say I would like the idea of mythical creatures, sure it IS a game but 90% of it is based around real situations with realistic progression in technology.
