the only word in Italic : Dinosaurs go for it! that would be sjust awesome , back to the stoneage!
<facepalm.jpg>
It's italic because you voted for it.
I liked that idea of a tribe of aboriginals someone suggested a while ago
Dinosaurs and Military depending on place where you are, close to some objects with radiation you would see Military but in in woods Dinisaurs
Dinosaurs would be so amazing! There is so much you can do with that. I would love to see some sort of neutral mob dinosaurs that you could tame n ride like a triceratops or something. I can't believe so many people are voting for military, that's such an overdone idea. Dinosaurs would be so unique and amazing in my personal opinion.
In other words, replacing a placeholder of a placeholder with a placeholder?
WHY.
Zombies were found in rad areas that look like military bases, for the most part, Why not put military in to fill those areas. I'm not saying don't add something awesome and new like Dinos or aliens. I'm saying as a it is now Military best fits that position in the world.
All this hate on it is based on it being a single choice, which isn't the case.
They surely can add more than one type of mob to the game....
So it's not a question of what do you want it's a question what should replace zombies.
I do think dinosaurs would be awesome, however I do feel like there should be some sort of other AI rather than animals. Maybe even some pterodactyls, that swoop down once in a while and attack players. That would add some fun to the sky.
Giants/mythical creatures seem cool, I think this would add a lot of variety to the game in terms of combat.
Military would be a little tough, however that would be sick. I can imagine it would be terrible for players who only have bows and cloth armor, but for those who are armed I can see a lot of FUN firefights happening out of nowhere. The more I think of this idea the more I like it! I'm not sure if I would agree with random spawn locations, that can be avoided or abused easily. Maybe the military can drop somewhere on the map once in a while, or they can come from the water and start travelling along the roads?
I like these 3 ideas mentioned and I'm sure whatever you replace them with will be better than zombies and mutants.
DINOOOOOOOOOOOS
Definitely dinosaurs.
There is so many to choose from. Raptors could roam around a map in groups. Pterodactyls could fly around, attack player from sky. Some of those tiny ones could replace chicken. Triceratopses could replace a bears. Then there would be rare spawn of T-rex or other big dinosaur. And of course Brachiosaurus, which could just walk around the map without AI. Like on rails. Looking awesome. There is not much a player with bow and arrow could do to it anyway.
It would be so awesome!
About the other suggestions. Any kind of military, mutants or zombies is terrible idea. There is DayZ for that. And anyway, Rust is moving away from modern military weapons, right? How would that fit in?
Robots and aliens just don't fit. Again, how would you defend against them exactly? Without military weapons?
"Mythical creatures" is just not specific enough. Dunno how I feel about it. Sounds strange.
EDIT: If human AI was necessary, I would vote for those indians/caveman someone posted on first or second page.
Can confirm the majority of the Rust community appears to be 14 yr old kids, voting for Dinosaurs? Really?
Definitely dinosaurs.

Don't like the idea of replacing the whole game with DINO'S I think military would be great in the rad places, but the DINO'S can still be implemented into the game.
Can you add a Treasure Hunt?
Lets us find an old treasure map at a loot spawn point or air drop and then we make a blueprint for a metal detector by combining a research kit with a metal coil and some metal fragments. Then search the area hoping to find the treasure.
It would be risky as you would not hear as you listen for metal contacting beeps.
Also let us have Hanggliders to jump off mountains for raids etc
I see alot of people have chosen Dinosaurs
There is another survival game similar to Rust with Dinosaurs in it. Would it be copyrighted?
I chose Aliens, I like the idea that the story could be that we are crash survivors on a similar planet to earth.
Some people want Dinos, others Military...
why not both ?

(This T-Rex is pretty cool !)
It is cool...it looks like a Borg-Rex
Mutant dinos and animials vs miliatry with us in the middle !
Seriously? Dinosaurs? Giants? Aliens might work, but you've already got the STALKER theme going for you, the only thing I see working is mutant animals, mutant humans, or military.
You guys are no fun. Dinosaurs would make this A* game.
little military ai that have guns you can shoot in large groups would be killer
Everyone seems to be getting way too caught up in the flavor/story of Rust. But really think about it, does Rust actually care about these things now? Not really, it seems like its all about the gameplay.
So I'm gonna agree with a lot of people and say Military is a boring option, as it really doesn't add anything new to the gameplay (humans with guns already exist in game ... they're called the other players).
I voted for Giants because I think it would be interesting to add enemies that you cannot possibly take on alone. And I really want to see the following scenario play out:
A giant wanders into your area and starts wreaking havoc and destroying bases. Out of desperation, a dozen or so players form a temporary alliance to take the beast down. With teamwork they are able to kill it .... and then it drops its loot: enough metal building pieces to construct a huge fortress as well as an arsenal of weapons. Suddenly the 'alliance' falls to pieces as everyone kills each other to get the amazing loot
I'd love that, something that adds a new element to gameplay, not a just a reskin of the same boring enemies.
I think roving bands of NPC's that have succumbed to cannibalism in order to survive. I think that would add an interesting dynamic. Like in the movie "The Road". Far more terrifying and believable than zombies and mutants because the realism is what makes and will make this game epic. If the game characteristics are believable in real life then it should make it even more noteworthy....
I find it amusing how people are taking dinosaurs to mean T-Rex's and raptors.
I think tribal warriors should've been a consideration.
Hell we made military a possible answer so why not.
And if not we could just make mutant humans similar to tribals. Docile and easy to kill by day. But by night, they become fierce predators that discourage midnight strolls.
Dinos would be cool if you could not only kill them for loot but also tame them. Asides for the c4 bit and advanced weaponry if c4 is removed something needs to replace it and if advanced weaponry is removed or can only be acquired from an airdrop then primitive weaponry needs to be expanded upon
Wow I really can't believe Dinosaurs, I thought it people were just joking until I read the comments. Not really sure how you could tie it in to something believable but OK.
Few idea's besides dinosaurs
Other players - something like the book "I am Legend" would be interesting. Some of us are non-infected survivors while others are infected.
Also the show "Falling Skies" does a hell of a job at an alien apocalypse so that could be grabbed for ideas. Maybe we are an alien farm as a food product. Every so often they round us up for dinner :).
Or I guess dinosaurs, my kid watches dinosquad so I guess he would like it (he's 5).
HATERS STOP HATING ON THE DINOS IT WOULD MAKE RUST AMAZING IF GAINT T REXS WERE RUNNING AROUND
Im voting dinos. honestly, i havent played a remotely decent dino game since the turok games. i would also enjoy having NPC tribes located around the map, but honestly i dont really care. i have faith in whatever happens
edit: i gotta ask, why all the dino hate? are people that scared to stray away from the norm of video games these days? we have had 100's of games released within the last few years that range from bandits, mutants, aliens, zombies , robots and military to kill/hunt and survive from. how many dinosaurs games have you seen in the last 2 years? i don't recall any personally, but i might be wrong. its could be a nice change.

WHAT ABOUT A HUGE PURPLE DINOSAUR! ... THAT COULD SING!!!!
Dinos could actually be added to the game dynamically for those wondering. Players could tame them to essentially be "wardogs" (or whatever) on top of that the devs could turn them into world events and bring the game closer to the caveman themer. But cavemen with guns and dinos

You seriously gave me the best idea EVAR. Now just hang in here with me what if it was a Gaint Trex that went around fuckin shit up while singing "living in the sun light loving in the moonlight"
Heres the song

i think there should definately be an rpg style varying levels of difficulty on some enemies.
i.e some have ridiculous healthbars and would take maybe a squad of well equipped players to take down (mutated t-rex?) and some are easy enough to kill with a pistol (velaucoraptors?), have them randomly generated or only appear in certain areas, (mutated t-rex appears very deep in a swamp/forest type enviornment)
maybe through in some horror enemies too, a refference to the rake or something to keep players on their feet at night.
just my 2 cents :)
demons would also be pretty bad ass, but I'm biased as a devil may cry fan :v

Hmm maybe that's a sign that it's a bad idea :). We have not had any games about killer unicorns with fire bolt butts either but it does not mean I want one. In the end the biggest asset in the game is the players and finding a way to make them the vilian and the hero is the trick. If you want to make a great dino game you could probably do better by making one offline.

Well this thread made it pretty clear that alot of people are cool with dinosaurs.. perhaps not as their first choice, but doesnt seem like many would be hurt about it.
whats wrong with something unique? if we keep support the same shit over and over and over again we will end up like 18 different "series" that do the same shit COD does every year, and every other company will be out of business because we didnt support their unique ideas. i dont want that, i like variety.
