LOL ok zippeybeard
The last two posts are as good as this thread's going to get. Might as well just lock it down now.
Anyway Compass yes/no? I'm all yes obviously as the op.
Come on yes guys,we can get this done!

For the guys complaining about not being able to coordinate an attack or whatever... that's your own communication issues.[/QUOTE]
I suggested it to help point out enemies as it is quick and reliable not because we have communication issues.
okay to sum this thread up: most people want a compass - case closed
Why not? Every survival game should have a compass. It's a convenient way of navigation without a map. There's no reason why you shouldn't have one
So it seems we want it. Facepunch are u guys taking notice?
Not needed now.
Use the map if you really care so much. There is much more important stuff to do.

You speak for all the people who play?

What I'd like to see is the map changes to where the player is always oriented in the same direction on it, and the topography moves as you do. This would make the map less 'instant orienteering" and bring a compass' usefullness to light. Or players adapt at sun navigation and landmarks would be able to forego the compass entirely.
"
I don't think that will be implemented. I say this because of how the maps are saved (afaik). Being saved as a .png file, with whatever dimensions, when a player looked any direction but north, the file would need to be rotated (and also enlarged and the triangular void spaces filled with transparency ) and saved again. I just imagine that for a map to keep up while you are running around (especially writing on it and checking it often) it would add a lot of work on the clientside.
I think?

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, but perhaps it's just placeholder for now. If this is going to be the final style of map we see (it not being player oriented) then I don't really see a need for a compass. The map already functions as one.
