The terms have a certain colloquial use with particular age ranges, where they aren't actually associated with the people that their dictionary-form might describe. For that in-group, the terms thus have some social justification for usage.
It can still be obnoxious if it's abused, though, yeah. :P
This thread has gone off course, wrecked, been put back on the rails, wrecked again, burned, buried, somehow managed to wreck yet again, and is now running around with a rock screaming "FRIENDLY!!1!" while smashing people's brains out.

Well to get this back on topic I think you should be able to find a paper that gives you a description of a place/landmark along with a crude drawing of the landscape near by, using a compass and landmarks you would navigate the terrain to find something like a rock or tree that you could search and find some rare loot.
They may have stole airdrops from rust, but they stole this from runescape.( but runescape did it better)
I'm pretty sure they stole the whole "running and jumping" thing from Super Mario Bros... :zoid:

The Stalker games had this when you would talk to NPC's. They'd tell you about a stash somewhere in the world and it would show up on your map so you could go find it.
Honestly though I don't see why the game would need this. The current loot system with random barrels, radtowns with crates and barrels, and airdrops works fine for me. Notes would just add another step to a game mechanic that already exists.
Besides, every player's house is already a stash that exists in the world. Varying the types of loot-able items and difficulty of loot-able areas would be good though.
