It isn't STUPID to resize the map with the xp system coming up. It's STUPID to think it's stupid :p I think the devs are concerned about lag problems or fps troubles, when they implement the new xp system. A smaller map could reduce these problems. If I was one of the devs, I would make this game look like "Hurtworld" or "No Man's Sky". Because the graphics aren't that realistic, as they want Rust now to be. Hey, if Minecraft had realistic graphics, there wouldn't be much PC's in the world, who could run it. Lower graphics will give the devs much more space of development for programming. So each gamer can play the game with whatever PC or hardware they have. And the game play could be much better. Now there are much complains about players who play this game at lower graphics settings. You could say buy a better PC. But where does it end? No, the devs want realistic looking graphics. I've got no problem with this choice. But it has some consequences with the development of Rust. So that's perhaps the reason why they reduced the default size of the map. so they've got some (programming)space to develop the xp system.

They explained why they made the map change.

Or maybe both.... :p And why did they've changed the decay system? I wonder if it has got nothing to do with the upcoming xp system ;) But hey, you can say that's my opinion and go on...

The trouble is that the recent steam exploit means you can't play on community servers without risking a virus. So you realistically have to play on the smaller map sizes. With the smaller map sizes, trying to play the game solo or with one or two other people becomes even more miserable starting out. Trying to get a base going when there's 5 active bases within walking distance is not fun. I'm sure that the game is a lot more interesting for larger clans with the small map sizes, but the game already shits all over anybody who's just starting out without a large group. I think the last thing the game needs right now is to make things even worse for those players.
Your opinion is wrong.
Yes, I know now and this proofs only one thing. I'm really a human, because humans can make mistakes :p
I play solo on a 200 population server. The map size is 3000 now and there was a bp wipe but it was possible for me to find a quied good spot. There was much more pvp but i enjoyed it. It was possible to gather enough for a 3X3 house. In my opinion the new size is perfect. Thank you facepunch for this change.

I think smaller maps will be better. Thats just me

I must admit i enjoy the larger maps for sure its a shame i hope theyt change it back
I must admit i enjoy the larger maps for sure its a shame i hope theyt change it back
Agree, at the moment this game is to much focused at FPS. I hope they go back to a bigger map. Where you can survive on your own if necessary and fight the elements of nature. So the features of a good survival are back. Because lately these features have been ignored or silently removed from the game. Maybe the xp system will do some good there, we shall see.... And yes some nerd will now say, surviving other players is survival too. But that's in my opinion every common FPS. If I knew this game would be a common FPS, I never bought it.
If I knew this game would be a common FPS, I never bought it.
Don't assume the current state of the game is representative of the final product. It's in Early Access, assume nearly everything is temporary.

I'm not an idiot. I know this game is in alpha state. And I'm only saying how I feel about the game, as it now is. I have played this game +1100 hours, I'm not a noob ;)
Did you bother reading even 3 posts down that thread and realize that this shit happens all the time and is nothing to be worried about?
You're completely missing the point of that post. Nothing about "major vulnerability" says "nothing to be worried about" to me. Just because similar stuff has happened before doesn't mean it's nothing to be worried about. Any community server can put a virus on any client that plays on that server. That's an enormous security vulnerability. If anything, similar stuff happening frequently means that official servers for multiplayer-only games should be under even more scrutiny, because they're frequently the only safe ways to play that game.
