• What are Facepunch going to do to combat games such as 'H1Z1' & 'The Forest' next month...?

I'm a gigantic Rust fan. I'm also disgustingly psyched for The Forest and H1Z1. I know The Forest is single player upon initial alpha release, but it's still gonna be a major timesuck for me and I can't wait. H1Z1 is gonna be a bit different than Rust in some respects, but I'm still stoked for some Walking Dead style town takeovers, huge map exploration and massive multiplayer base building zombie killing player raiding fun. (upwards of 2K people on one server, that's ridonk) That being said, I don't think Rust needs to do anything to compete with these other games, mostly because Rust is still insanely early in development. Like 10 or 11% done or something. Yes, these other games are looking pretty and polished, but Rust exploded in popularity when it was way less developed than it is now. The main reason it's dropping in player base (although not by much in the grand scheme of things) is because it exploded too early (:quagmire:) back when all the code was just placeholder/quick and dirty, so now it has to be replaced with future proof stuff to appease the massive audience it attracted, and that takes time, and people are impatient for games that they love. It's not the Dev's fault for placing dirty code to begin with, because this was supposed to be a trial foray into Unity for FP, and it turned into this cult phenomenon. It's not a fanboy mentality to think that once a software that exploded in popularity when it was barely off the drawing board is probably gonna kick some major ass upon 1.0 release or whatever you wanna call it once it's done being developed. It's understandable to have some skepticism, if you'd told me 5 years ago that in 2013/2014 there'd be a game about naked cavemen building shacks and getting assault rifles and it'd be super popular before it was even finished, I'd have given you the andysamberginhotrodohkathy HAAAAA in your face. But here we are. I think Rust is going to continue to surprise people throughout it's development cycle, and I'm excited to see what it brings to the table as things pan out. We just have to get over this hump of netcode placement and dirty code replacement. Thankfully other companies make good games too, so we can occupy ourselves with other games, or real life, or whatever floats your boat.
The forest is primary single player ( even though they already said that they will port to multiplayer later) h1z1 is a zombie survival game.. Rust is NOT a zombie survival game. Also why combat ? There's no rule saying that you can only play 1. Dont know about you but i'm for sure going to try and play all 3 games. Not to mention that rust and fp can for sure learn from h1z1 and the forest and the same applies to h1z1 and theforest. Please dont create a stupid fight like CoD has with BF. It's terrible annoying >.>
Don't know why everyone feels the need to argue about these kind of things. I like rust, I like DayZ and this H1Z1 game looks preety good. And I wish people woul'd stop moaning about the zombie trend because it's alot better than the first person shooter team death match trend...like cod.

I for one wont be dropping money of this H1Z1, freetoplay games are usually pay to win, until proven otherwise i will assume this will be too, so until than no money from me.
What is Garry going to do when the new Call of Duty comes out? Or the new Dance Dance Revolution? Or the new Space Invaders? I dunno...just make a good game maybe? "Survival" was the hot buzzword for 2013 and it's picking up speed in 2014.
What are they going to do to keep Rust unique & sustained as the most played survival game on Steam when 'The Forest' & 'H1Z1' (especially) come out, as in the fact everyone is hyping about how H1Z1 will kill off Rust and even DayZ. I was going to get Rust, but I was provoked into thinking that Rust may become obsolete when these games come out as big releases next month, Help anyone, reassure me, at least!? Apologies if this sounds stupid,
First and foremost The Forest is single player, therefore its not really in direct competition. H1Z1 I am skeptical about, it may pose a threat down the line though.
fucked up
