There are two sides to this, guys:
First, there is always a hazard in removing abilities from the player, most specifically the ability to fight back. Especially in a game like Rust, this provides ample opportunities for griefing if not handled properly, and the system will need to be carefully designed to be a reasonably fun and balanced experience.
However, the other side of this is, we don't really even know what the devs are planning for this yet, so everyone getting upset about this is going off way too early. garry has said time and time again that right now the devs are experimenting with designs and seeing what works, and this is exactly what an alpha's for. You come up with ideas on paper and say, hey, this sounds like a good idea, but you don't know for sure whether it's a good or fun idea until you actually put it in the game and see what it's like to play. As garry has said, if it sucks, they'll get rid of it.
So, let's wait and see how it goes. When you have [I]played[/I] with the cuffs for a couple days, and have had some time to reflect on how handcuffs as they work in Rust change the game balance, come in and share your feedback in a constructive manner -- the devs do listen,but they don't put much weight behind impulsive resistance to change. i wouldn't mind handcuff's if done right, but ladder and rocket launcher just shows it won't be done right or thought through correctly and it be just a grief fest until we wait for something to be done.

Well you still have to realize it's all work in progress aka alpha aka Early Access. The developers are experimenting and if something sucks they'll change it. Trust em ;)

While handcuffs are kinda neat and as long as its done in a fun way shouldn't be a problem, I'm more excited about the possibly of a "surrender" option currently I have to ask people to type /sleep in console if they don't wana die and I only take what I need this is perferd to killing them and only looting half their body...kinda a waste

it was more directed at the guy saying he expects to see people camping spawn with aks trying to take captives. well, they would still have to get the cuffs onto you. and if it's between defending themselves from a hostile player or cuffing them, i'm pretty sure most people would shoot you down; and now you can just respawn.
cuffs couldn't be a fast thing either, they would need to take a few seconds to apply or become too op, even more so than when we could steal guns out of the players hotslots in combat.

I'd keep the kill command in but if you use it while handcuffed you lose the ability for x minutes to spawn off your sleeping bags.
oh here we go, thinking aloud. how about if you're taken prisoner, you can choose to re-spawn, but your imprisoned self(es) remain for a limited time and you can spawn in those bodies like a sleeping bag at will. Every resource you harvest from then on is proportioned off to your active self and your imprisoned bodies, allowing your captors to milk you for resources. This would give people a legit reason to take prisoners other than to grief and give you a reason to save yourself
ok, the more I think about this, the more it makes sense. There should be some way of when you're a prisoner, you can find yourself easily, like a GPS pointer on a map. So people setting up "people farms" take an increasing risk of retaliation the more people they take.
sorry to keep editing this guys, but another point. when you warp back to your imprisoned self, you can't craft or do anything other than walk around and swear with your captors - saves your from gifting yourself an escape kit lol. Also, people aren't as likely to kill newspawns as they won't "produce" as much as a well established person, seems to balance it. And you have to carry the "body" back to your base, makes you a target.

At some point food should become a bigger issue and so prisoners could just let themselves starve to death, at this point in time however it would take forever.

I think if handcuffs keep one from suiciding then they should at least force the one who cuffed them to be forced to periodically spend time preventing them from suiciding.
I imagine a way to implement this would be allowing handcuffed players to silently try to work their cuffs off. They would be forced to stand still during this process and could be interrupted if their captor pressed e on them.
At least the jackass cant just lock you in a room cuffed and just leave you unless hes willing to spend the same amount of time with you.
