I'm glad you got in possession of your steam account again. I imagine that must've been a nightmare. However, there is little we can do to help. Go for steam support and explain your situation here. They probably have a way to check the infractions happened during the time you weren't in control of your account, and if that's the case, as somebody up here mentioned, they'll lift your bans best of luck
thanks
I'm nowhere near as good as some of the internet detectives on this forum, however a quick google search of "1337matty" does give quite a few results that involve sites that specialize in bots and an account on MPGH (however it has been inactive since 2009.) As far as losing all of your progress, is that really a big deal? It's just like getting raided, or a server being wiped... Starting over is kind of a fact of life in RUST. At least for now... [editline]18th February 2014[/editline] This is me really wanting to be one of the cool kids. xD
If he was into downloading cheap, public hacks that could explain how his account got hijacked. Many Trojans disguise themselves as game cheats.
But guys the hacker only hacked his account to get him banned cause thats what hackers do. They key log your computer to get your steam account JUST so they can go get hacks and get you banned.
The hell are you on about? Hello?? Bank details, Email, Passwords, documents etc... Idiot. Bye bye hacker. Stay banned.
Seeing as you claim to have only accessed Steam at home, I take it the password to the e-mail account tied to your Steam account was something easily guessed? Again, the only way a "hacker" could access your Steam account if you have Steam Guard on is if they get into the e-mail address tied to the account. When you access Steam from a new computer it sends an authentication code to said e-mail address. Without it you cannot log into a Steam account unless you send in proof of account ownership. People know this, thus they are having a difficult time believing you were "hacked".
I find it so annoying that people automatically assume that this guy used hacks! I guess it is possible you did use hacks, but it doesn't seem like you did so I hope you get your account back and bans lifted. Like other people said, facepunch can do absolutely nothing for you now and it would probably be a waste of time to do anything other than contact steam with everything you can tell them. This includes the following: - Anti-virus used - How often you perform system scans - Devices used to sign into steam - Browsers used to sign into steam - Plugins in your browser(s) - Your location/activities around the time of your account being hacked (for example, if you where out somewhere or at your PC) - Your timezone/times you come online steam - All the OSs you log into steam with (For example, windows XP, Windows 7, iOS 6, Android Jelly Bean) And any other information regarding your steam account. It might be what joystick you plugged in your computer, if it is potentially related to your steam account being hacked you want valve to know about it. If you do have any luck getting back your account, please do tell us! Good luck!
Valve Anti-Cheat doesn't lift VAC Bans. You guys should know that.
I find it so annoying that people automatically assume that this guy used hacks!
I find it pretty incredible that you don't think he hacked. There's pretty much no chance at all that someone hacked into his steam account, then went and paid for cheats, installed them, and played with cheats on in order to...get him banned. He bought cheats like an idiot that were supposed to be "undetectable", terrorized people trying to legitimately play the game, then it turns out they weren't undetectable, got banned, and is now saying "It was the cat. He was playing on my account." Sounds like a standard case of NOPE.
This isn't my facepunch account, as you might know, you cant log out of facepunch Thanks for the very useful reply.. And this isn't my Facepunch account, my friend logged in on here and now i can't log out so i just use this one
http://www.facepunch.com/login.php?do=logout
Valve Anti-Cheat doesn't lift VAC Bans. You guys should know that.
I'm sorry what?
There is also the factor that as of recently people show up almost daily with questions on why they were CheatPunch/VAC banned and if there is anything they can do to get unbanned. They always claim innocence, and so far in the end its always been the contrary. It also seems that a lot of people believe "hacks" are only god mode/aim bots/spawning items/etc and that their in game map/light applicator/overlay that shows people/animals don't fall into "hacks".
This one time my cat ran across the keyboard and signed me up to a cheat website SOMEHOW using my user name. It was so weird! It then ran across again opening the confirmation email and following the link inside. To my dismay it than ran across AGAIN and downloaded a hack and even worse entered my credit card details just by sheer chance! Then it ran across again installing the cheat client and opened rust. Plz my cat got mebannedfrom rust using facecheatpunch. Can you unban?
Its almost copy and paste level of no effort put into telling the truth.

I find it pretty incredible that you don't think he hacked. I don't use hacks, but have been banned for them so many times which is why I always try and keep an open mind for these people, it's really annoying how, in this situation, you get so little support. And yes, my PC has been hacked before, the script kiddies installed hacks on my PC and got me banned on a non-steam game luckily, I also knew a lot of people and had a good rep so they understood the situation. With VAC protected games this cannot be the case. You have next to no evidence that he ever touched hacks. On a serious note - that is a clear excuse, some people have reasons as lolo clearly pointed out (thanks for the image). VAC bans can be lifted if a valid reason is given.
http://www.facepunch.com/login.php?do=logout
Ah thanks, i couldn't find anywhere to log out, this is my account
I don't need any more info on my steam getting hacked, i just need to know a way to get unbanned from rust
As people have said, contact steam support and provide them with as much evidence as possible, and then just hope for the best.
18/2/14 "Hello Matt, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. We apologize for the delay. It appears as though the account may have been hijacked by another user." [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] I can assure you i haven't used any hacks, my steam account got hacked and they played my games.
I don't need any more info on my steam getting hacked, i just need to know a way to get unbanned from rust
rebuy the game, man. you already admitted you're sharing passwords and shit with friends (the reason you couldn't access an account on these forums.) that right there shows us that you have terrible ethic with security, and i have half a mind to send this information to valve just for the CHANCE that they reject your claim to have your game reinstated. you're not going to learn a lesson if you get babied. as it stands i don't believe for a second that you got keylogged. i'm convinced that you a. hacked and think this is a way to save your rep on your account, or b. just have terrible security ethic as i highlighted before. either way, your bad ethic led to you hacking, or someone else having a free outlet to hack. and you need to pay for that. 20 dollars and free registration for a new account is the cost. have a good day!
I never shared passwords? My friend logged into his facepunch account on my pc
I bet your "friend" used a cheat too. No way this guy is telling the truth, dunno why people are giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I never shared passwords? My friend logged into his facepunch account on my pc
Also, IP traces show that it was from Ukraine, which is an entirely seperate country than mine
https://tribot.org/forums/index.php?/topic/17544-botting-tip/ looks like your buddy is into some stupid cheating type shit, isn't he? this is just one example that i found. i'd venture to guess that you're him, or that you both just enjoy getting an edge. either way please quit rust.

Why wouldn't someone that enables liars, cheats and thieves for a living use software to let them lie, cheat and steal in order to test their stuff?
Not to flame, just giving my opinion...but these threads suck. If it indeed happened it sucks for OP but there are probably much better means to go through in getting info on ban reversals.
i wish the mods would lock these threads immediately.
As i posted earlier, this isn't my facepunch account, as you might know, you can't log out of facepunch, and i can assure you i haven't downloaded any hacks, i haven't actually downloaded anything for weeks
Uh...what? This...isn't...your Facepunch account? Whose FP account is it that you're posting with?
I find it so annoying that people automatically assume that this guy used hacks! Steam won't unban it. It says right in their FAQs that your account is your responsibility. If someone "hacks" your account and gets you VAC banned, you're still VAC banned.
Valve Anti-Cheat doesn't lift VAC Bans. You guys should know that.
In a ridiculously small percentage of cases. I believe there's a site somewhere that tracks those statistics and it's a minute fraction of a single percent. Regardless, in this case even if OP claims his account was hijacked, the ban still won't be lifted.
I find it pretty incredible that you don't think he hacked. There's pretty much no chance at all that someone hacked into his steam account, then went and paid for cheats, installed them, and played with cheats on in order to...get him banned.
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, that he was dumb enough to install a trojan, probably in the form of some promised game cheat. That's as far as I would go though. Otherwise, the whole story about his steam account being hijacked despite having steamguard enabled just falls to pieces. That said, given the nature of VAC and it's tendency for time delayed VAC bans, I kind of doubt he was VAC banned from multiple games all in the timespan of a few days.
i wish the mods would lock these threads immediately.
Sometimes they are just too curious and want to see how this ends. Then they close it. :v:
