Linux Mint 17, AMD Phenom X2@3GHz, 4G RAM, GTX650 Or if not any ideas where I go hunting for what is wrong? Looking forward to trying the new updates.
same here. latest kubuntu, 64 bit. amd card, proprietary drivers. 4G ram.
same problem. tested on two machines. both running ubuntu 14.04. one with amd card, one with nvidia card. Both stuck at bootstrapping.
Can you post your output.log?
Same problem here on Arch Linux x86_64. Where can I find output.log? I don't see it in SteamApps/common/Rust ... Also no interesting output in the terminal.
It's in Rust/Rust_Data/ on Windows
There is nothing named *log* or *output* in Rust/rust_Data
the default rust directory is ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Rust but "find -name *.log" didn't return any file. Is there a switch to enable logging?
Same issues on Mint17, GTX780m, tested both current proprietary drivers, system up to date. Wiped out my steam directory entirely and re-installed steam/rust. Still won't pass "bootstrapping". Steam alt+shift does come up. I can't find any output.log either. having the same problem, but on windows, played till 4am, woke up and couldnt load passed bootstrapping.
Incidentally, I installed the "development-debug" branch and it loads just fine, I am able to join a server, but game crashes when I spawn. Still can't find any "output.log". Also tried the "development" branch. Won't pass "bootstrapping". Then just to be sure, reinstalled "development-debug" again, it loads the game but crashes on spawn still. Interestingly, with the development-debug branch, I WAS able to join several Community servers and spawn normally, and performance was awesome! Best performance I've seen thus far for the new Rust under Linux. However, when I try to join any of the Official servers, the game crashes. One exception being the dev-debug server, which allowed me to connect, didn't crash, but ran like crap. [editline]22nd November 2014[/editline] Okay, I take some of that back. Upon further testing, seems I cannot connect to any of the official servers except the debug server. Debug server works but is laggy as hell. I can connect to all community servers. Regardless of ping, some servers are laggy (3-5fps) while others run smooth (I've no idea how to check FPS, so my 3-5FPS is just me counting).

Hope this gets fixed soon. Made me give up and boot my windows partition for the first time in months (which I am not enjoying) because I was dying to see what the new update was. The new update is good, I like that it's no longer a hammering simulator, and also that only certain tools can harm walls.

As I said, if you want to play, you CAN play the developer-debug version right now. I checked the Player.log as well, but did not have the same error, but at the same time, I successfully ran the dev build. Wiped Player.log and tried again with standard build, didn't get any new entries. *note - I'm a tad annoyed that rust install installs unity3d NOT in the goddamn directory I told Rust to install, especially as this may very well be a performance issue for those of use who install our games on an SSD while everything else goes to slower media...* Wiped steam directories as well as unity3d dirs and re-installed steam/rust (standard). Tried Stable branch, launcher loaded, first server (Washington) couldn't join because of packet error, second server (Amsterdam) I did manage to join and spawn, but had under 3FPS. When I used the development-debug version a few days ago and it was working, before the FPS dropped, I did manage to have it hovering around 40 FPS for a while. So I know you're on the right track. Good luck hunting down what the issue is.

You have to manually remove the entire Steam directory. rm -Rf ~/.config/unity3d/ rm -Rf ~/.local/share/Steam Then re-install Steam and rust. Is working for me still this morning.

I can't really be bothered with reinstalling the other 28 games I currently have installed, and then reconfiguring them all, just on the off chance it would work. I've seen improvements and patches work fine before without having to do so. Well if you don't have any other Unity based games, you can probably get away with just removing the rust directory as well as the unity3d directory and then reinstalling rust. It SHOULD work the same. I was just going overboard because I don't understand steams file layout in Linux and have no idea where everything might be stored (I don't think anyone does. it's a mess).

Bloody EAC. It never plays nice with Robocraft on Linux either, as soon as they added I was locked out of the game for a week. Now, to get it to run, I have to start the program, wait till EAC fails, then restart the program and it doesn't load it the second time and loads the program. edit: Also just tried every branch there was (I was hoping one of the dev branches would have some updates in) and every single one just crashes out after a second or so of black screen.
