You can place as many rules as possible but people will always defy them unless they have no spine,
Uhh ok? And if people refuse to follow the rules then they eventually get banned lol, that's kinda standard for any forum really.
it shows how bad the rules are when more or less EVERY post has a BANNED banner on an account.
Yeah it's the rules fault people didn't read them, totally nothing to do with people being lazy or anything lol.
We've been a forum for 8 years now with rules as strict as these and we've worked out just fine. All you have to do is read the rules and you won't have any issues.
Postal why don't you make 2 stickies
1 for Hacker reports here
1 for DDoS complaints here
I mean i personally don't want to break the rules but i just want a place where i can complain about how fucking annoying it is, Fair enough right? + neither u or the devs will ever look in it but the noobs don't need to know that and i can just pretend you care abotu what i say in there
garry doesn't want tons of stickies and neither do I, so we can't do anything like that. People can find the hacker report thread link in my rules sticky and we don't want any more threads on DDOS complains because they just go to shit.
Being a moderator myself on Battlelog... for Battlefield... which just had quite possibly the worst launch ever, I'll say that in the short 2 weeks I've played this game I think the forum mods do a good job of keeping the bulls*it pretty low. Mods need the freedom and reign to be able to make decisions on what's best for the community, not political red tape and procedural doctrine
Why does this game attract such a community? I've not seen a worse forum spam even on DOTA2 forums, not heard about more hackers even on unmoderated CS or CoD servers.
It's whiny self-entitled kids like these ones above that are pseudo-DDoSing the game right now. Why does this game attract so many shitters? :/

You don't need a brand new sticky, just add a couple lines to the title of the existing one, instant fix!

yeh I guess that makes sense and fair enough on there is a hacker thread but can we have an official off topic or something just so we can let out a bit of steam, I know myself that it would make me feel better about the DDoS if i can just bitch somewhere... even if it isn't a sticky
It's quite amusing to watch the ace mod defend himself from angry drunken dwarves.
It's quite amusing to watch the ace mod defend himself from angry drunken dwarves.
I aint no dwarf!!! :P
ps on a serious note tho, what will it get us to constantly barrage him with our opinions, its not like the forums are going to change their rules because a few people have spoken out about how they don't like to be treat like a child :D
To be honest most online gamers wouldnt want to upset anyone (brown noses) if that was the way of the world then nothing would ever improve. In..my...opinion....:D
postal forces me to make a mod under threat of perma-ban. im trapped and its making me violently ill
The fact that the Rust section is the only section with members that almost unanimously complain about moderation shows the quality of posts here. :v:
I like the way the forums are moderated.
Simple sticky threads at the top to inform people how things work here.
Disrespect the rules, get punished. Follow them, post anything you want within the advertised boundaries.
Simple, efficient and it keeps the forums readable.
sometimes if i feel proud of myself i look at what postals done on the internet and feel small

pls make me mod :v:
(Take it easy, you "dumb" raters, I wasn't even serious ;_;)
Make the first page of this sub all stickies. maybe then you kids will read them?
Make the first page of this sub all stickies. maybe then you kids will read them?
Just acting like one giant sticky? :v:
the rust forum is waist high garbage
postal is the garbage man
it's garbage day
Actually they could use more moderation. We need megathreads to cut down all this fucking clutter. So many people come in here "hey I have a fresh new idea! Add a compass! Add a Map! Add Radar! Make the game easier for me!"
We need to contain all this noise and clutter into megathreads. And the forum users need to start posting with some intelligence, use punctuation and capital letters and proper grammar. Half of the posts on this forum look like 11 year olds wrote them. Though maybe they did...
Ive personally been a moderator on a gaming forum and to be honest theese moderators do a great job. Its so hard to moderate a gaming forum since its mostly kids who never even bother to read the rules or search for older posts and just repost stuff thats already been answered. In the end things start to get deleted and alot of threads get locked. Then the butthurt people spawns and the forum gets spammed with shit like this "Why are threads being locked and deleted?" When theres a full valid explanation in the locked threads and in the forum rules.
For thoose who want to ask which game i was a mod for it was WarZ. Ended up quitting as a mod because it was too much of a pain and i thought the game was a badly developed failure.
make the forum background tiled penises thus imposing an artificial age limit on the members who have their parents watch them online?

Well, Daniel Munoz has attempted a few times to get a "Community Speaks" thread set up for the purpose of becoming a megathread for all suggestions, but it doesn't seem to be catching on.

Postal 2014
Postal didn't ban me yet so he's all good
it's only a matter of time he's silent banned me 5 times
Postal didn't ban me yet so he's all good
my single greatest regret in life
I saw Postal ban someone who posted some information about a clan on here that showed they have dipped a bit into hacking and other stuff. Postal banned him for that. I thought that was a bit harsh. I would have thought they would be gracious to see players do something that could help the community. Not punish them for it.
I've only just joined and after running a large community site myself for a few years I do feel the admin team are a bit quick on the ban hammer.
If the forums are being spammed with general posts of little information during chaotic times then why not get a chat room where they can get an instant answer from the community instead of banning them for what is a petty violation of your rules.
There are other options of dealing with the community than simply banning them and lol'ing at them for not reading the rules. Like anyone has time to read the rules on every site they use in full when they just want to announce or ask something.
The worst thing to come out of these silly incidents is the negativity the games get from it. Check steam forums and almost every post where someone asks if they should get Rust there is a line of people telling them what a bad company but great game this is.
If you really don't care then so be it, but be honest about it.
PS. I have not read the forum rules (and probably won't), if this justifies a ban then I will take it like a man.

This is a much bigger community than what you're probably used to, as we have over 40,000 active posters currently. Things get chaotic here if we don't enforce people to read the rules before they post.
If they want information on whats going on they can read the blog on the website or the trello or be courteous and read around the forums before posting. it's not like the ban is permanent, it's just meant to serve as a reminder to not be lazy or impatient and shit up the forums.

lol uh I don't care how lazy they are. They're making more work for us by refusing to read the rules. It's common decency to learn the way a community works before you start posting all over it and if they can't do that than the outcome shouldn't be a big surprise.
PS. I have not read the forum rules (and probably won't)
Uhh ok? That's a rather shitty attitude to have but suit yourself. Just don't act surprise if you get banned at some point lol.
Late contribution but here goes :
postal is doing his job good, it's not his fault everyone that comes here decides that they're so special and unique that every last thought they get deserves it's own thread. Plus none of them usually read the general forum rules and stickies. So yeh, I approve of postal as our very own Rust mod.
whos posterle

Bans for people ignorantly breaking the rules in good faith make you look like a dick. Why would you punish people like this instead of merely closing the thread and editing the first post "HACKER COMPLAINTS GO IN HACKER THREAD"? A ban is an inappropriate response.
When it says "USER IS BANNED" in red text, it is not clear to anybody that it is a temporary ban. Maybe you can update the text to say "USER SUSPENDED FOR X HOURS" instead, in addition to not banning people who are trying to help.

Click this thing on any user, it'll tell you exactly what's up:
Another reason people should learn how Facepunch works; these problems have been solved, you're just not looking for the solutions.
