OK, here is my opinion on gamma, now before people get super angry and in a piss pour mood, it is my OPINION you don't have to think the same way. I bought and played Rust December 11, 2013, the day Rust first came out on steam. Since the first day of playing Rust i have turned up my gamma so i could see at night. Now before you say it is an unfair advantage over other players, I don't believe it is simply do to the fact that they can turn they're gamma up to, even without a graphics card (look it up). Also, why do we not have an argument like this over being able to turn your grass off? If you turn your grass off you can see better and (for most people) you get more FPS VS the people who have they're grass on. Isn't that an "Unfair Advantage"? If you say it is not an unfair advantage because turning your grass off is a part of the game you can choose to do, and turning your gamma up isn't a part of the game, than why are they getting rid of the command to turn off grass in the new version of rust? So basically people who are saying Gamma is an exploit, glitch, or even hack wouldn't the same thing go for Grass?
You're lying, back then the nights were pitch black. And I mean BLACK. Cranking up the gamma at night didn't do anything except turn the screen white.
I can adjust my gamma just fine with the NVIDIA Control Panel on my computer using a GTX660 on the experimental version of Rust. (22nd of August 2014) I do admit to it being a bit less effective than on legacy, everything seems to turn to blue and black but it still makes me see better of course.

Why did they fix something that wasn't broken?
BTW, on my 32 inch TV monitor I could see fine at night without changing anything. On my new 40'' TV I do need to adjust my gamma to see at night.
I don't see how this is any different than being able to turn grass off. Both of these things confer a huge gameplay advantage to those using them, why would anyone not use them?
People crying "mah immersion!!1!1!!" are either kidding themselves or haven't spent more than 100 hours on legacy. When you're transferring 3 sets of full kev, m4's, 500 of each ore and 3 stacks of planks plus animal products from hacker valley across the map, you either have grass off and gamma up or you die.

Off topic: why would you move it away from Hacker Valley I'd spent the 3 stacks planks there to build a nice base! XD
On topic: I've played 1200 hours, the first 1000 I diden't use the gamma.
I thought it was lame (still do) but after 1000 sitting in the dark I hade enough.
I'm not an killer or KOS guy, I'm just sick of getting stuck in my base without a torch or campfire at hand and not knowing where the f*ck I am. And having to wait 15min before I can go do stuff like crafting or unloading a bag of resources.
I'm not saying I will not kill some one with my gamma turned up but it's just not the reason...

well grass.on false was purely a workaround for the massive memory hit it had in store for mid to low end machines, and has been removed in experimental as the grass was replaced with an optimized version. it was never intended as a tactical option, it simply became one. it doesn't really compare.
to me, gamma being turned up kind of defeats the point of rust; you are never supposed to be "safe". if you choose to move your gear at night, it should be hard to see, or your torch should stand out like a sore thumb against the night sky. i personally flick the torch on and off and follow the road; the noise of footsteps is different on the gravel, and occasionally checking my bearing helps keep me on track. in experimental though, night is not purely black, there is moonlight, and greater darkness before sunrise.
oh and >100 hours on legacy. in case it matters;)

I agree with people saying it's not meant to be like this where 90% of the players up their gamma to get an advantage at night.
I also agree with people that play this game even slightly competitive that they feel like they got no choice because not turning it up disables them from going outside their base at night. Because yes, when you don't have your gamma up at night you're basically a dead-man, I think this is something we can all agree on. Even if it's morally wrong to do it, surely you must see why people still do it...
Don't really understand why this is such a big issue for people when usually your game will be ruined by way worse ways of "cheating". Glad to read that it will probably not be an issue in the new Rust
