If they told You today that in few months they will add those fucking unicorns would You be okay with that?
The fact that they blogged about it doesn't change shit. It's a change that's far too drastic even for an alpha game. Bring zombies back!
No, I wouldn't, but if they were planning on adding unicorns i wouldn't have bought the game...unless it's zombie infected unicorn, then ok.
Well, I completely understand it's alpha, however, there also needs to be a way for the community to voice it's opinion either for or against things being done in the game.
I personally despise the removal of the Zombies for Red Animals. I realize that's not the end goal, but I actually enjoyed the idea of this being a Zombie Apocalypse game. The zombies gave some meaning to what happened and why we have nothing.
Some ideas I had for Towns. Towns need something mindless in the high rad areas.
- Better zombies and more zombies with different abilities
- Maybe mutants instead of zombies? These could be cool also.
- Both Mutants and zombies?
Other ideas for non-rad areas
- Roaming bandits?
- Periodic military incursions?
Now, I'm not bashing anyone for liking the removal of the zombies. There are definitely some good points for their remove (cheesy graphics, lame AI)... However ... I personally would prefer them back and expanded upon.

Alpha and survival game
Alpha and survival game
I'm not sure I am following you. So because it's alpha and a survival game I can't let the developer know I liked a feature he removed and would like to see it back?
I'm not sure I am following you. So because it's alpha and a survival game I can't let the developer know I liked a feature he removed and would like to see it back?
You can let them know, but seeing as how they decided to remove zombies and publicly announced it before the game even came to steam(Garry wanted them out before then, just didn't get done). I understand the placeholder replacement isn't great, but, it is Alpha* and i'd say 9/10s of what you see is a placeholder. The guns, placeholder's, the map? Placeholder. Most likely most of the models you see in game? Placeholder. I'm not trying to be a dick and be all blah blah my way or no way!
I think that Zombies/Mutants done right would be AWESOME to a game like Rust. But in the end it is NOT a zombie game, and this is why it got changed. People assumed it was a zombie game, a considerably easier DayZ? Idk, As you can tell from the outrage, people didn't read up on this game at all, so all i can tell now is that zombies are off limits for the rest of the game design. Hell, Garry's even said they won't do mutants(as in zombie-like rage mutants atleast) because to reskin zombies and give them a different name isn't their intention, they just don't want a zombie game period. They want it to be other things. It sucks, because they are good ideas shot down because people don't have reading comprehension, or even can read, at all.
I still think a slightly fortified/light roaming NPC with guns would be awesome, like a band of army personnel or Mercenary's that 'hoard resources and technology'(I.E. Ammo, guns, blueprints, some resources). While a game like Rust doesn't need story really, EVE has proven at least a rudimentary plot helps the fuck out a little bit. Whatever FP is planning is probably right around the corner, I don't see them pulling this punch with a year left to design and develop that one part. But I do have hope that whatever they pull out of their ass will indeed be fun, as this game is fun.

Ohhh, the pitfalls of alphas. Zombies were never part of the vision and if you, along with others, liked the idea of zombies then you bought the wrong game. If you thought they gave meaning or backstory, then you don't know the story (not saying I do either, btw). IMO the mutant animals are just as ridiculous, but it's in alpha.
Which brings me to my next point, alphas, early access, closed betas, etc. are all fairly recent innovations that looks to be a double edged sword for devs, especially for popular games such as Rust. You get a ton of people doing the testing for you, and make no mistake about it, if you are playing Rust you are a tester, which gives you a lot of data and helps to get a comprehensive bug and glitch list going, but you also get a ton of feedback from people who don't know what the vision is. Hence all the grief about zombie removal.
I look forward to future content and will provide feedback if asked, but I'm going to leave the job of developing a great game to the devs with the sober viewpoint that this may ultimately end up being a game I don't want to play.
I look forward to future content as well. :)
I will say that I did not research these forums prior to purchase, but I did read the page available and watched a couple videos including the introduction video. I'm sure this was announced somewhere (still not positive where) since a lot of people knew of it, but not on the main page (which also did not say anything about zombies being in the game, so the argument goes both ways).
That said, I'm not mad / upset or trying to create a fight or argument. I just found it surprising that I stumbled upon these forums because I wanted to post something about "hey, I liked these zombies" and found the amount of volatility I did.
eh - either way, I also am looking forward to what is planned and hope to god the red animals are temporary (because I doubt anyone can argue they're better than the zombies were).

They are, it's in the patch notes it's just a placeholder. I just hope it's no longer then 30 days..not that it's gamebreaking...or bad, or anything like that,I just wanna see the big baddie dammit.

What kills me is the amount of people that say they enjoy the zombies, no offense Nethril, but I had zero fun with them except the first day I played. That's the only time they scared me, at pitch black night time when I couldn't see. They weren't dangerous, or looked scary, hell they looked like a normal player model that had red kool-aid spilled on them. It was a obvious loot deliver service, if you think the loot you've been getting of zombies should be easy then you all don't understand alpha. In a MMO, RPG game you typically give the player faster XP gain rates, or cheap prices of skills/weapons, so you can test everything. That's what I saw the zombies as, a way to give players most things easily so they could use them. I do not see them as any sort of gameplay element really.
Alpha and survival game
Did you make your account just to 'alpha' this and 'survival game' that? Quality posts sir. Quality.
I personaly couldn't wait to have the zombie's removed. I think I killed maybe 5 total during my 100+ hours of playing. I was sick of zombies after about a month of playing call of duty black ops. I find it very amusing to read people bitch and complain. It's probably the same people who complain about getting raided or being killed on site.
