• Slant stairs and half-blocks - Sorry Garry you got the wrong idea on this one

I agree with the sentiments here & I'm quite angry about it. I obsess over building in this game. In fact, sometimes "I just wanna build something" really badly & Rust is what gives me the best satisfaction. I've been getting better & better at making elaborate small castles or fortresses and just NEWLY discovered how to become a MASTER at building with foundation stairs, slant stairs, and half-blocks. It's been beautiful... open walkways & stairs with multiple levels & floors all being able to meet up with each other- so flush, so right. I had upgraded from 'fairly shabby' builder to 'OMG THIS IS SEAMLESS' builder. Garry, you have taken that all away from me. I am no longer the master builder making my friends' community buildings beautiful anymore- I simply can't be that person anymore. The only kind of builder I am left with being now is 'I hope this works' builder, & 'don't hit your head while you're trying to madly jump up the U & L stairs' builder, or 'look at my boring stairs & simple levels' builder. I can no longer endlessly seam multiple floors together, & have to use more supplies using poles & flooring just to attempt connecting things- which gives it a despicable shelf-look instead of normal flooring. The removal of VERY important building tools is a hindrance to playing your game. Add on top of that the casual 'you don't use them correctly' insult, and I really don't want to play anymore. This is where I'll remind you that Rust IS what gives me building satisfaction, so please. Please give them back A.S.A.P. & think of my dear family members when you take building functionality away... think of their suffering if you wont think of mine. ~Sincerely Too Frustrated to Have Fun with Rust Anymore~ {please hurry & save the kittens... I mean my family... I mean the world}
I was very disappointed when I was building a base with a friend and went to grab a half block and noticed that both it and the ramp were no longer there. In reading this thread it is good to see that I was not alone in wondering how I could now build a base on a slope or how to place stairs in a passageway in a perimeter wall without tripling its width at that point. Why remove something because it is being used for something it was not intended for? This “in game” creativity stemmed from a need and a work around was found using what was on hand. Isn’t that the point of a "sandbox" style game...to find ways of creatively doing things with only the items you have available? Once the new components meant to satisfy this need are added, then this “work around” won't be required anymore, so, logically neither would be the need to remove the "mis-used" pieces. The removal of these pieces may indeed stop their unintended use, but at what cost to building creativity? Why totally remove an item with a multitude of uses just to replace them with items specific to one function? Yes, the new items look cool, but, can't both exist? Seriously, much of the fun I have in Rust is the ability to build and am always hoping for the addition of new components and positive changes, such as the recent usable space under foundations and roof slopes. New components like a 45 degree triangular foundations/floor and cantilevers would also add countless more base building possibilities. I'm sorry, but I feel the cost far outweighed the benefits with this recent decision. Please reconsider this decision and bring these pieces back. Here are some SS of a base I have built to give an example of how I integrate these components. Without the half block or ramp, many things I have done here would not have been possible. The problem is we builders make bases that are too big and hog the resources of the server in doing so. As Gary wants us to just run around and kill each other there is no need for creative constructions we can all live In 2x2 stone boxes on the lowest part of the map and spend our time smashing each other's heads In while we stand naked but for the fuck Gary t shirt we purchased from the micro transactions on the steam store.
ok, I tried to build last night and really, narrow passages and even construction on slopes are a no go. After some tinkering and thought if the incline of the foundation stair were double and walls were properly attachable to the sides, it may be workable again, however, the subtle inclines and half stories would be gone. I'd love to see maybe 80-85% of the building components being basic components like foundation shapes, a few types of stairs, or even break the stairs down further so we can configure them the way we like. I realize there is server load to consider but the more basic components are, the more options there can be...(anyone ever wish the L stairs went the other way?) The remaining 15% of parts could serve specialized purposes (shutters, doors, maybe even trap doors)..this would keep things more open to creativity. As soon as a components becomes specialized and limited then it is what is is and we end up with "Rust Suburbia" with rows and rows of identical habitats.
BUMP!
Vince says.... ""Foundation Steps Experiment I proposed the idea of using a three metre gradient for our foundation.steps block earlier in October. The goal was to ease building creation, so that you did not end up with walls ending at different heights as soon as you built on uneven terrain. We tested it, and while it worked perfectly for mountain bases where slope angle reach 45 degrees easily, building on flat became harder. Door blocks clipping were a tad nasty, too. Ideally we’d have a foundation steps block that can adapt between 1.5m and 3m, but for the work required as of now it doesn’t seem to be worth the while."" SOooo..I guess builders are S.O.L. for now at least, stuck with gaps and protruding walls.....frustrating, especially because nothing was broken...maybe wouldnt be so bad if they added a half wall that was actually a half wall and could be used to patch the gaps...oh wait...
