• Donating a Free Copy of our Weather System for Rust

My theory is that the BHS Guy posted it in the Reddit and FP forums because he didn't know how else to contact Garry, hence the public offer which i personally find no different than Howie doing Rust art work before he got a job as Rusts concept artist or the rest of us making public suggestions for the game. I was the one who made the Weather System post late last year that's mentioned in the post, I never suggested that FP use BHS weather system, the post was made purely to explore Unity's Weather Systems. I figured that FP would make their own. I don't think there is anything suss about the offer, they did say they play Rust, and wanted to make an honest contribution, from the looks of it their system is compatible with the current Rust system(which also sells for the same price), if FP take them up on their offer then that would probably speed up some progress and we'll have weather sooner than we thought we would. If everything works out then great we'll be building and raiding in the rain before xmas. That's the best part, if its not to be, then so be it.
PR stunt.
Somethings Fucky. "To prove we are who we say we are: We are currently Online on Unity3d" I didn't have trust issues till I read that line. As I read this i never thought "hmmm I wonder if these guys are 1337 hax0rs trying to give the trojans to Garry via .exe"
You don't have trust issues, you have tRust issues.
DON'T OPEN THE DOOR, HE'S NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL!! XD but seriously, the way the offer has been made does nothing more than give them some free advertising. it's not insidious, and there is no reason that Garry can't turn them down if it's not applicable to the game. i think people are putting way too much thought into this.
I see it like this - I don't see anything necessarily wrong with offering the product in such a public fashion. I think we'd be naive to think that there wasn't any forethought of getting the community behind it as some leverage to make sure Garry does at least take a look at the offer and the product rather than dismiss a direct request sent to him in private. But I see that as being creative in marketing their product more than being disrespectful. I'm not sure I would have chosen to go public on that scale with it, but I'll give them kudos for knowing how to get someone's attention. And is this ultimately about publicity for their product? Damn right it is. And smart too. But perhaps not in the way that some people are jumping to conclusions about. BHS knows that Rust is going to explode in popularity once it's complete. Hell, it already has and hasn't left alpha stages yet. They have what appears to be exactly what Rust needs to take the game environment to the next level in realism and immersion. If they can get themselves in there at this early level, that's incredible publicity for their product. Being able to attach an "as seen in Facepunch's smash hit Rust" to their product marketing will go a long way to raise their own profile significantly. If I was in that business and managed to find a way to hitch my wagon to the Rust train, I most definitely would! Like I said earlier, Garry is a smart guy. He wouldn't be doing himself any favours by rejecting this outright without looking into it first. If UniStorm turns out to be better than what they had in the works / in place, can be integrated with minimal change to the Rust codebase, and will save them weeks or months of coding, then odds are good that he'll take them up on the offer. If not, Rust will continue on its regular development course and we'll see weather showing up in game in the next few months as Facepunch intended it. Either way, best of luck to UniStorm devs. The product really looks awesome. I'm sure that with or without Facepunch endorsement, any devs using Unity and needing a weather system would be doing themselves a big favour buying the plugin at the start of their project.
YES PLEASE!
Thanks everyone for the support. I hope everyone knows we meant this in a respectful and professional manner. Purely as fans of Rust and a way of contributing. Also, we posted a screen of us logged in on the Official Unity Forums because people were saying we weren't actually Black Horizon Studios. We were simply trying to confirm we were who we say we were.
